After preparing for "Night of the Living Dead," my GW waits for nightfall with Ser Perth and...nothing. I did every possible preparation for Perth; for Murdock; at the Tavern; etc. Anyone have this bug before? Do I have to go all the way back to the beginning of this quest? Any mod that would cause this?

Okay, I find I can bring in the undead by running into the area where the burning oil will be lit. The cutscene of scared villagers making a run for it still doesn't show. Any ideas what's causing this? Mod-related?

Installing too many mods which use Event Manager can cause exactly what you've described (no cutscene, no oil fire, zombies immobile/non-hostile) . See here for an explanation of the issue.

...and after clearing the castle and returning to Redcliffe village, there's no Chantry Board or Blackstone Irregulars chest; arghh!!!
In the thread you linked to, they mentioned some mod to manage this problem. Any idea what it was? Clicking on the link only takes you to the Nexus Board home page.

In the thread you linked to, they mentioned some mod to manage this problem. Any idea what it was? Clicking on the link only takes you to the Nexus Board home page. Missing job boards is also Event Manager related. The Nexus site was reconfigured a few years back and it broke the existing mod links... it's easy to figure out what mod an old (broken) link goes to, though, since the mod ID #s remained constant from old site to new. Using your example (note the ID number in both is '1601'): old link > www.nexusmods.com/games/?id=1601and the new link format for (DAO mods) > www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/1601/? (Your link goes to Gastank's Dragon Age Rules Fixpack; I don't know if that 'fixes' the Event Manager issue or not, since I use the more conservative tack of removing mods to address the issue, rather than adding them.)

I ultimately did figure that out....and it's a mod I already have! lol (Well, maybe not so much... ) I also ran into an old thread on the subject where you and Thandal had co-starring roles! (I liked how you referred to yourself as a "lay-person and not a real modder"!) I have both IA and Extra Dog slot installed. Beyond those, how do I know which mods impact Event Manager?

Heh. I'm definitely not a real modder, at least not for DAO!
Re mods using Event Manager, sometimes modders will indicate that is the case in the documentation, sometimes it will be mentioned by users in the comments/bug reports.

Okay, so, with the Chanter's board, Mage Collective, and Blackstone chest not showing up in Redcliffe in addition to the missing cutscene, I decided to go back to the last save before Redcliffe and delete some mods to see if I could get things functional again. I also saw some people mention Extra Dog Slot as one that uses Event Manager. The strange thing, however, is that even with the EDS file removed from Add-In folder, dog is still showing up with the rest of the companions. Any ideas? EDS is installed with Dazip.

Did you have Dog summoned when you uninstalled the mod? If so, you want to go back to a save before you uninstalled, dismiss Extra!Dog as a summon, save, and only THEN uninstall.
Also how did you uninstall EDS? If it was manually (by just removing the folder from AddIns, there may still be an ERF left behind, in Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\data... that should be removed, too.

You're awesome! What is an erf file anyway? What does it do? I suppose to understand how modding works, I would need to study the DAO toolset? Any docs helpful in that regard? Edit: 1. I've played with EDS since the beginning of the game. Even after manually removing the folder in Add-Ins and the erf from core and dismissing dog in a save before Redcliffe, I still get an empty window for dog. Hopefully, that still lightens the load for event manager and everything else in Redcliffe will work.

Oh gosh, I'm glad that was helpful! I'd hate to think of poor Dog being stuck in some not-really there-but-always-there limbo. The same principle applies to uninstalling mods which make any persistent changes... some examples would be reverting helmets before uninstalling a no-helmet hack, or deactivating sustained talents/spells before uninstalling the mod that adds them. ERF > Encapsulated Resource File... it's an archive of assets... think of it as a fancy, proprietary ZIP-type archive used by the game to store groups of like assets. And I recommend the official Dragon Age Toolset Wiki as a good source of basic information.

Now, even after deleting EDS (which I frequently used in the past with no problem but for the prison break) and deleting another mod I was using for the first time, I still have the problems at Redcliffe - no cut scene and likely, no chanter board afterwards. Arggh!!! I may have to start over and review my installed mods. I assume armor mods, hair, anything CC-related wouldn't effect the Event Manager?

Armour/clothing mods + chargen mods aren't problematic, though I think the Nude Variety custom bodies mod uses Event Manager. Rather, look at mods that affect game mechanics for the culprit... gameplay fixpacks, Combat Tweaks, Advanced Tactics/Party/Quickbar, CNTS, Improved Potions... IIRC the Item Set Fix uses Event Manager, as does the Bosses Killed Stat fix. And some of the tweaks from Dragon Age Mutator install Event Manager.

Hmmm...seems like it would be a good idea for someone (perhaps myself once I become more knowledgeable) to create a spreadsheet with all the more popular such mods along with the instruction of "this many event mods and no more." What is a good max number for such mods? I have: IA, Natural bodies, and several of the "must have" fix packs. I also had EDS and the Dog Advanced tactics mod. I also have Leliana Romance Scenes installed.

Natural Bodies (NBaio) doesn't use Event Manager, from what I recall, but 'Nude Variety', which allows for different nude models to be assigned to characters of the same race/gender, does use it. I doubt that Leliana Romance Scenes would use Event Manager, or rather, at least I've never encountered a romance overhaul or dialogue-centric mod that did. Not familiar with Dog Advanced tactics. Per that earlier link explaining the issue: The Redcliff Village setup usually it breaks because of an event overflow. To quote wiki: The maximum level of event rerouteing is 8. social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset/index.php/HandleEventI believe that limit of eight includes vanilla events, of which Redcliffe has a number... that's why the game suddenly goes wonky there and not, say, in Lothering. Someone smarter than me might know how many event mods are the upper limit, on top of whatever the game has.

I just deleted another new mod - Rescue at Ishal - and that didn't help. All that mod did was link to modder-created cut scenes of how PC and Alistair went from Tower to the hut in the Wilds after the massacre at Ostagar. Other than those mods, I have nothing installed that ever broke Redcliffe before. I now have to decide whether to go back to an Ostagar save - before you get Dog - and see if that fixes Redcliffe. Or do the nuclear option: a clean re-install!
