Well, I just rolled a new character, Aumaua Cipher/Paladin. Interestingly, that particular class combo is called "Inquisitor" Edit: I also had over 60 Berath's Blessings going into this game, so I'm starting with enhanced skills, stats, a perk, fine-quality armor and weapons as starting gear, an unlocked pet slot for Eder, and a f*ckton of extra starting cash!

Anniversary patch (aka patch 5.0). Turn-based is out of beta now! Woot! Now I can replay it...one day because I'm busy with other games right now. They also added new dialogues related to Woedica and Eothas to the main storyline based on feedbacks. More reasons to replay. What I'd like to know is: if I choose turn based combat is the number of encounters on every single map automatically reduced? If it's not, I wouldn't ever touch it. The good thing about RTwP, in fact, is that it allows you to get rid of trashmobs pretty quickly, rather than forcing you to spend 5 minutes in order to fight the same group of enemies every two steps. Take Divinity OS2 for instance: almost every combat is a unique experience and you don't have to fight costantly around every single corner. But if battles are always the same and 99% of them are just a mindless and uninspired chore I'd rather use real time combat.

I finally started my turn-based playthrough of Deadfire last night. I decided to make a smartass know-it-all noble female Evoker Wizard. I already love her and I only reached Port Maje.
Also, I'm playing on the same difficulty as my last RtwP playthrough and even early on there are less enemies in some encounters. Although, I can't say if that is because of TB or some other changes the dev did since my previous playthrough was like a year ago.
I'm also sad that we will not get a POE3 considering the piss poor sales the game made despite being awesome.

More playing TB last night. I finished the tutorial island and discovered that ray of fire hurts a lot, as I cooked two party members with it, then reloaded and cooked the two enemies properly . Now I need to understand how to re-place spells that aren't done being cast. I actually never used it with RtWP.

Finally getting back to this after being distracted for a while, and I came across something new.
A mysterious figure handed my Watcher a charred book, which triggered a sequence where I ended up talking to Woedica, what really filled in some gaps regarding the nature of the gods, souls, and the Wheel. It was also implied that this would not be our only conversation.
Is this something tht was patched in, or part of a DLC?

They added a few things to the narrative based on feedback. The Book of Woedica is part of it. The patch notes says this: Woedica responds to a number of player choices, world events, and quest states. This means that the book can be consulted a number of times in a given playthrough to unlock new conversation branches. You get special dialogues if you play a Steel Garotte Paladin or a Priest of Woedica too. The patch also introduced extended Eothas dialogues at the end of the game.

Almost 10 hours in turn-based (on a single playthrough, I restarted a few times) and I like TB better than RtWP in Deadfire, especially as a spellcaster. It is so much easier to land your big or spell shaped AOEs when things don't move all over the place or get glued to your party right away. Controlling the battlefield is also easier. I also changed my Evoker for a Tactician/Wizard and I love it (well unless I get flanked, then it's less fun).
As for TB being slower, I'm not so sure of that. Maybe for the people with powergaming builds who knows all encounters by heart and use cheap tricks to one-shot everything, but not when playing the game normally in a sorta clueless way.
For example, I fought the giant grub in the Old City's temple (he had 3 red skulls*) yesterday and it was much easier than my RTwP experience with a higher level party last year (I wiped like 3 time on it, here I succeeded with 0 death on the first try). Considering the amount of pausing and reloading I had to do in RtWP to manage that fight, the TB version might actually have been faster.
There is also one thing that is different in how I play the game between TB and RtWP: I'm using my resources a lot more now.
But I have a problem. I wanted to romance Maia, but she seems to have started to flirt with Xoti already (I find them adorable, I had them as a couple in my previous playthrough), but Maia's romance trigger was moved to post Hasongo (which I have yet to reach). In fact, my party was a love quadrangle (Edér is my tank), so I left Xoti on the ship because it was just too much. But now I need a new healer/support to replace Xoti. I built Pallegina to be my healer/support (and off-tank and just general badass really) but then I realized that it was going to be an issues later as I want to support the RDC this time (barely interacted with them before). My other choices is Sharkboy...which also has a problem with RDC. That means I'm kinda left with Kontensten I guess. But I like Pallegina, I even gave her MY greatsword.
This is going to be an emotionally painful playthrough I think, well more emotionally painful than I first realized when I decided to romance Maia.
Also, I discovered last night that there is two bounty contacts I never talked to. I knew that I skipped lots of content the last time I played, but now I think I might have missed half the game, lol.
*That means it was at least 4 level higher than me.

Fortunately, I decided to back the RDC this time while romancing Maia. Now I just have to figure out if sabotaging her personal quest will break the romance. Outside plain "I'm breaking up with you" dialogue choices , killing Kana in POE1 (she refuse to talk to you so...), getting into a romance with someone else or Xoti getting her first, the only cause of that romance failing is causing Maia to leave the navy post game, where you just break apart with time. And that's not tied to a specific choices anywhere in the game, but an accumulation of anti-Rauatai dialogue choices and telling her she was doing evil things (paraphrasing) through out the game. She's the most mechanically complex character in the game, even her writer isn't too sure how to get a specific ending of hers. edit: I realize that Maia can also ditch you if you join certain factions at the end, as they fixed the bug that made her stay. edit2: Also, Maia's romance dialogue isn't just gated by disposition 2 and doing Hasongo. *sniff* Looks like you need to finish her personal quest too (and favorable reputation with the RDC too I suspect). Or something like that. A dude on reddit even think that getting too reputation with the Huana before finishing her personal quest cause her initial dialogue to never trigger (he tried 3 times with the same save, had to backtrack 7 hours in the second one because it never triggered and the difference with his first try was doing a bunch of Huana's quest while waiting for her to return from her mission).

My OS hd crashed this morning (BIOS can't see it anymore, I can't recoverable anything from it) and the only thing "important" I lost is my POEII Deadfire saves (everything else was on other hds) and I had finally started the Maia's romance. The hd even crashed when I clicked the play button for the game this morning. It's like fate doesn't want me to finish my playthrough... Oh well, maybe I should try my shady shadowdancer idea.

Versus Evil teased Deadfire Ultimate Edition (the console version) coming soon at Gamescom.
I wonder if that means we will get a 6.0 patch, as the POE1 console release came with a new patch.

I pretty much replayed everything until my HD crash with the shadowdancer character instead of the battlemage.
People complaining Monk were not OP in TB were wrong. I hit harder than everyone else but Xoti crazy level 1 unique spell, twice in turn, and usually act first every round. I didn't want to use armor though, so I made a mod. At first I just wanted to turn some Rauatai clothing into something I could enchant to increase the base 3 DR overtime, but it seemed too complicated so I just enabled levelscaling on it instead (it's a bit overpowered with a +1 DR every level though).
Also, Maia saying "what's on your mind cutie?" almost every turn or when I select her is very distracting.

Of course, Serafen seems to think Xoti and Eder are a thing...

I think a few of Maia/Xoti banters trigger regardless, I had two that were kinda suspicious after I started to romance Maia.
Also, the game has way too much content everywhere (said as a positive). I wanted to do the Watershaper Guild quest last night, but I ended up at the Hall of the Unseen instead.
And I finally took revenge on the Black Bastards too.

Finally getting around to giving this game a go after really enjoying the first one. Playing as an Inquisitor(Soulblade/Kind) and enjoying it so far, also modded it up a bit to make combat a bit more interesting.
Only thing that kinda bugs me is the game appears to kinda microfreeze for a moment every 30 sec or so. Messed with all the options and nothing changed it so no idea the cause. Not game breaking but kinda annoying..

Not game breaking but kinda annoying.. Turn off telemetry and make sure it stays turned off (I once turned it off and went back into the options and it was still on). If it still happens and you got an Nvidia gpu, this might help too. Some area of Neketaka will always cause stuttering though.

Messed around with those previously but I do appreciate the help. It's manageble as it is, I think it's mainly like you said just in the city the most, with all the npcs loading in and out of the maps.
