Well, I'm hearing rumors that Cyberpunk is going to have online components and be more "destiny like" than witcher, looking into it for news to try and confirm that rumor. That's a very telling trend now if true isent it? Trend? Take-two doesn't even hide what is the goal of every publishers. What is happening right now is that one publisher got lots of money doing that and everyone is now following them like lemmings. We got Diablo clones, WoW clones, DOTA clones, Survival games cloning...and now gacha cloning. All that tell us is that publishers fears going out of the market if they don't follow trends. The issue with the new design, players are going to get burned way faster and buy even less games.

A lot of people have reported it as such as having an online hub similar to Destiny 2 as of right now. CD Projekt Red has also been talking about changing up plans going forward with Gwent, and how important online is for the future because of the service model. Just did a news story about it, based on an interview with a Polish investment website, check it out here.

There's more than one way to skin a cat, and more than one way to milk a whale. Or emotionally manipulate the average gamer into impulse buying some virtual tat. Then don't buy the hat. When folks buy $60 monocles on EVE online because they can or want to, that fight is already lost and what matters is personal self-control. -(_ANTHEM_)-
Self-control is key but also is a player's attitude towards obtaining badges, rankings and showing off to the game's player base. These gamers are more inclined to buy MTs and get cosmetic show pieces to wear.
I guess it keeps the artists busy. The free Path of Exile, for example, has many. many cosmetic gear on sale... daily. Also on sale is bigger storage "chests". However, they are disconnected from the game... the cosmetic stuff that is. The game loot drops have tons of different bows, gems, shields, swords, maces, bracelets, shoes, helmets that unless you have control, your storage chest gets filled up with crap near duplicate items...
Bio has a penchant for "severely" limiting storage chests. I suspect Anthem will fall prey to that design decision. Enter MTs. (🌸=◡=)

Well looking at past experiences BioWare did make storage for Dragon Age: Inquisition free and increased the amount players could carry in Mass Effect: Andromeda free as well instead of charging large amount of money for it. That is one of the things a friend told me about Path of Exile is that yes the content you get from the store is generally cosmetic the price for that content is also extremely high and you pretty much want to pay money for more storage in the game.

Let's see: "... make storage for Dragon Age: Inquisition free and increased the amount players could carry in Mass Effect: ..."
True but after some backlash. The initial storage space was stingy in MEA and there was no storage chest with DAI at launch. I expect similar constraints in Anthem... up-gradable via MTs. (🌸=◡=)

Star Wars BFII community is up in arms after EA’s Star Wars community manager, Mat Everett's Tweet about concerned fans being armchair developers. The issue is a perceived (maybe true?) improvement of their character via MTs, in competitive MP. Fans in the Reddit sub-forum are pushing back.
link: https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/7ch1f5/eas_community_manager_calls_concerned_battlefront/
Interesting enough, another article, based on the PC version (link below), explains some of the MT mechanics... it's disturbing. The article author strongly believes it represents the final retail code. I expect a lot of content to be behind credit paywalls.

Edit:
(1): EA's Defense of Battlefront 2's Locked Heroes Became Reddit's Most Downvoted Comment Eve (2) Apparently you can buy credits as you download the game.

Well... we now have death threats! "An EA developer who recently commented on Star Wars Battlefront II’s controversial progression system, has now received numerous death threats and more than thousand personal threats."
All stemming from a publication of a spreadsheet that suggested that it would take 40 hours of gameplay to unlock just one of the many heroes available in the game.
This is is getting ridiculous. Though, the dev calling it "an unpopular feature" does not help.

Hmm unless I am missing something I can't see where the death threats are actually shown in that article, not that I don't believe that people would send death threats over this it is just in modern times people seem to conflate all nasty comments with death threats. Still I wish these jackasses would learn that sending Death Threats do nothing, if you really want to send the publisher a message DONT BUY THE FUCKING GAME!

This "unpopular feature" locks the primary heroes in the SW universe behind a credit paywall. So, you pay $80 for a game and find out you can't play DV or Luke until you earn 60K in-game credits which will take you appx. 40 hours. Ridiculous, of course... but pay for a few MTs and convert them to in-game credits and voila. So, those that can get ahead and those that can't... tough teats for them. On top of this, in a raid, there is only one Luke or DV or other hero. This means if another member of your team gets the hero first, well, you can't play that character.
I can very well understand this shit storm. Besides, if you read EA's condescending/BS answers, you know nothing will be done or can be done by game launch (Nov 17). Personally, I believe that EA tied this game to the movie so much that the publisher believes they got the fans/gamers by the short and curlies. It's a cash grab, imo. But, like MEA before, this may also turn out different.

How does a developer calling lootboxes "an unpopular feature" not helping it seems to be a universal thing on the internet that people dislike it. As shockingly tone deaf as DICE and EA have been about justifying the progression for heroes, the “unpopular feature” comment was strictly about the death threats. He was sarcastically downplaying the problem to contrast how over the top it is to threaten anyone’s life over it.

The part about "passionate fans" and "candid response" comes across as rather pretentious. That's just the polite way of calling the fans what they really are. Giant assholes. Let's be honest, sometimes people are and it really solves no problems in the end. That, and sentiments like this. Bain may have a point, but we really need to get in the habit of calling spades what they are, then ignoring them.

Funny that he says AAA games, I've seen not AAA do it.
The funniest part is that after that they wonder why people waits for sales and bundles sales.

People waiting for sales and bundles predate microtransactions, so the argument can be made that waiting for sales, bundles, and buying used caused this problem.

Regarding the Battlefront II situation, in relation to Anthem, I’ve heard that EA would have liked the microtransactions to be more focused on cosmetics, but Disney is very insistent that everything in a Star Wars game remain visually consistent. Anthem won’t have that particular problem.

I can guarantee you it'll still be profitable. Little Johnny's mom doesn't know any better, and she goes out and gets the game for him. Little does she know that she'll be charged $5-10 at a time, so little that she doesn't really notice it on her CC bill when it comes. Fast forward 20 years, and you've got an alcoholic who's just in the gambling hall for the the next big win. Perfect, EA. Just perfect.
