not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, on the one hand I fully support Activision patenting this idea because it limits the concept to Activision and I can't remember the last time I played an Activision game, and anyone who wants to use this scummy concept has the extra barrier of having to go through Activision in order to use it. On the other hand the very fact that this is a thing and people are coming up with these sorts of ideas just shows how scummy the video game industry has gotten.

Wow, that is pretty disgusting. Listening to the video, the methodology used has only two potential targets: whales and children/teens.
It's too much. Greed is destroying the world, and most people just shrug their shoulders or ignore it. The true idiots of the world celebrate it, because the free market "works".

The scale of the brazenly cynical systematic manipulation is breathtaking. The gaming industry is starting to look and behave like the big tobacco corporations of the mid 20th century.
Dedicated to all of Satan's little helpers in the gaming industry....................

Greed is destroying the world, and most people just shrug their shoulders or ignore it. The true idiots of the world celebrate it, because the free market "works". The free market doesn't mean that you need to swallow this kind of shit, the current backlash is part and parcel of the free market as well, it's merely consumers defending their interests. In fact, in a healthy free market these reactions SHOULD happen in order to keep corporate interests in check.
The free market is very much like democracy, it might not be perfect in every situation, but overall it's the best method available.
But, does it work? The metrics argue heavily in my favor. They are ignoring the majority of the populace, because Richie Rich is rich and and some parents are weak as hell and can't raise a chicken. If this is the free market, which includes the endless bombardment of marketing in my face in the form of Mobile OS shenaniganry, I would say there has to be a better way, or I'll be your Uncle instead of Bob.

As if matchmaking doesn't come with enough problems already. Now you might end up with shitty connected players just because of the fucking MTs.

I wonder how it will implicate Blizzard... A scientific paper on how to milk costomers. What has the gaming world come to :/ Doubt it implicates them too much, yet. That is until they start offering items and things for real life money, that actually enhance your experience or character somehow. Also Blizzard's matchmaking for PVP content in their games tends to be pile of garbage anyway, so it's not like it can get much worse as it is

I guess the question is when Blizzard will finally go completely pay2win, there is a debate whether Hearthstone is pay2win or not. All other games aren't.

I never had really complaints about SC2's MM. I think they'd need a game first where such things seemed suitable, maybe they'll do it with Diablo 4 or something, they tend to test things out with that franchise.
