Hybrid master race tbh. Certain games belong on console, Elder Scrolls should not be one of them. So much smoother and better with PC. And as a person who used to be a console only person, it really is a thousand times better. They just want profit, fuck that. Fair enough. Although I think Skyrim is the best iteration they had on console. Or controllers at least. Oblivion and Morrowind still awkward. Hell, it's so console centric that you need SkyUI for PC. I don't know any PC user who likes the default interface.

People have made mods on PC from Skyrim that improves graphics, framerate, more intelligent AI, bug elimination, etc. I'd hate improved AI. How can I kill difficult bosses if they don't just stand there and take arrows?

I lost hundreds of hours of my life decorating my homesteads with useless shit I collected and trying to figure out what mod just fried my game. And now I'm about to buy a new GPU only a year after the last one because I "need" more vRAM for proper modding. So YES, I hate Bethesda!

Special Edition is out now... I almost forgot about it. It doesn't look like some important mods I want are here yet (SKSE), but a lot is already available. Nexus has even made a separate Special Edition hub. www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/. I might wait a bit.. maybe until Christmas.. to actually play.

As a console peasant, I'm pretty impressed. My son & I are having a blast! Still doesn't justify buying an Xbone, however

On PC, if you have the base game AND all 3 DLCs, yes. Before Yesterday.

Those scumbags I don't have Hearthfire. Seems like a waste of money when there are much better home mods out there.

Well for me Bethesda sucks right now i was playing the game and everything looked fine ( well not completely fine there were some NPC's missing from my game ). Until i downloaded their latest upgrade and that playthrough what i was talking about got corrupted by them. I had to start a new character because i could not go back to my previous playthrough. So that's about 60 - 70 hours played for nothing so yes Bethesda sucks right now. So i am still pretty because that was a couple of days ago.

So I popped over to one of the modding community forums used by UFO4P, and asked in there about what hope there was for a mod solution to the problem I described in the OP.
It turns out that the UFO4P patch actually addressed it, essentially fixing it completely for the vanilla game. I don't want to get ahead of myself or be too hopeful, but I'm re-installing everything now in the hopes that the updated unofficial patch will allow me to continue my save game, (the one I thought doomed.)
And I can't help but note the irony of the fact that the mod that was blamed for the issue was actually not only not at fault, but ended up being the solution to the problem.
I supposed it only counts as "ironic" if it was, in some way, unexpected that it would work out like that, but I guess it wasn't, really.
