Skyrim is hands down the most overrated game I've ever played. I don't understand how my friends can continue to pour hundreds of hours into it to this day. The character creation and progression mechanics are ridiculously dumbed down from the previous installments (no attributes, no birth signs, no class skills, racial bonuses matter less, etc), which I find alarming in something that professes to be an RPG. The aesthetic of the game isn't much better; Skyrim has bland scenery, a generic soundtrack, and blatantly reuses voice actors to the point of absurdity. The combat is okay, but nothing special. Some of the writing is interesting, but individual characters are never fleshed out enough for me to care about them. a friend of mine plays it every day, has over 3k hours in it. Goes something like this...he wakes up, goes to the kitchen/chair, then eats, then to the mine or something to get some ore, then to the forge, pub after work, and whole thing resets next day. Same is with any other "role". Think people play it more as relaxing, First person +mods Sims experience. Weird. Outside of this: Dark Souls, definitely...extremely clunky/unrewarding gameplay mechanics, felt more like a game of patience. Blizzard, Rockstar, Bethesda, Naughty dog games in general...highly polished mediocrity ( well, remove "polished" from one, here). I think I know your friend. We call him Sweaty Doug Dude loves to craft hammers, and work his field. Weirdo.

The Witcher. The first one. (the only one I completed)
Yeah, once they got the bugs worked out it was a well-crafted game. But the grimdark setting, the unlikable hero, the fact that women throw themselves at Geralt left and right, and you can't turn them down without sounding like an *sshole. Never saw the appeal of the series.

Any game made by Blizzard-Activision at this point (including the shitty movie). I stay away from their games now because the fan base is so cancerous.

I basically just ignored them/pretended I(Geralt) didn't know what they were talking about, and asked about something else instead.

Still quit the game before Act 1 got going because the UI was shit, combat was shit, there was no fucking chest to stash all the crap what do I know if it's useful or not and the fucking escort mission where enemies spawned in my back right next to the escorted NPC took the final bucket. Ye, kinda overrated.

Spec-ops: The line. Personally I found it to be obnoxious and heavy-handed. I remember reading on the interwebz (after I played) in regards to the WP part that one of the people who tried the game perhaps even before release, tried to use the other option which was implied (meaning attack without WP) and found out that the game just wouldn't let him, the game simply generated a never-ending number of enemies IIRC, and didn't allow for, say a stealthy approach or any other option. When questioned, the game dev on site said something like "you are the first guy who tried to do it", which I find rather ludicrous, since the game implies that you don't have to use the WP. I find this type of false choice to be extremely annoying. The WP? White Phosphorous?

Ye, kinda overrated. Wait, I played TW1 in the originally released version back in the day and I thought the storage was already in the game. Are you saying the patched that in later (and hence I have a suppressed memory from the trauma of not being able to store things )? The escort mission was tough but doable (and if you failed, it didn't really matter tha much anyway). Downrating a game because of that one optional quest would be ludicrous. As for the bugs, the UI and the combat system: As I recall, the game was critizised for those things fairly harshly at release by most established critics. It's just that the overall story and quest design made up for it. So yea, I get the Witcher is not everyone's cup of tea and I understand everyone who says it's not for them but I don't think it was overrated in general.

I actually played BG1 after having played BG2,and it totally felt stale and "generic",as you put it in, comparison. The conversation with the companions is really one of the basic ingredients that made BG2 a masterpiece imho. I'd say BG2 is the overrated one. BG2 is widely seen as some sort of masterpiece, and I think it's solidly inferior to the first one. First of all, low-level AD&D is just more interesting than high-level AD&D, and BG1 offered the player a lot more freedom in terms of how to explore the world. BG2 also only makes narrative sense if the Bhaalspawn cares at all about Imoen's welfare, which wasn't forced on the character in the first game. The BG1 protagonist is more of a blank slate (though not as much as in NWN, BioWare's best on that front). I also think BG1 made more of an effort to conform to the tabletop rules rather than making adjustments for the sake of playability. Pausing for the inventory, for example. And the UI didn't work as well, forcing a pause while on the map screen (instead of leaving that in the hands of the player). BG1 is the superior RPG. It is BG2 that is overrated.

I hate geralt, his monotone way of speaking, his flippant threatening of people he's supposed to be helping, his not being faithful to his current love interest. I also really don't like the single player mmo feel of any of the games. 2 was the one that felt least like an mmo, and even that was grindtastic. so yea, the entire witcher series, is way overrated imo.

I am not saying that they should be plastered everywhere in games but it isn't something that should be shied away from either where it is appropriate, honestly I think it bothers me more when instead of having anatomically correct genitals creatures have harden clumps of hair between their legs that look like Ray Martin's gelled up hairpiece. i.ytimg.com/vi/XymM1Fmfb_E/maxresdefault.jpgEither give them some shredded clothing or grow some balls and give them some, also lets not get started with sex scenes in underwear.

Ya in the scene he is talking about you take a artillery position and shell a 'refugee' camp with a willy pete 81mm mortar(That shit is a relic, a throwback to the Gulf War), I personally never got the horror of that scene, those fucktards picked that location to fire at you from, and that was about all it took. It isn't like for example, a bunch of terrorists seizing a hospital, and the government bombing it, patients, and terrorists all just for the sake of expediency, but this is you walking into this place, getting spotted, and you are just forced into the situation where you have to use it or you cannot progress. Maybe if you had the choice between a extremely hard firefight between a entrenched enemy, and a potentially fire easier usage of long range artillery bombardment, that might have been a choice, but that game was all about shoehorning in moral judgement.

I know most people will gasp and probably hate me, but I'm gonna say it anyway: Skyrim. I loathe that game, I found it so incredibly dull and imagine that it's only the mods that make people enjoy it so much. You know how so many say they're tired of hearing about how great TW3 is? That's how I feel about Skyrim

The original Halo is my pick, largely due to the underwhelming level design (which i find to be less inspired than maps from older FPS like Duke 3D and even Doom). I nearly got PTSD from "the library" with fighting all those damn flood in that dull stage.
Game's only pretty decent if you're semi-speed running it.

Well, everyone's entitled to his own opinion. You might be right for all i know,Sylvius, but my nostalgia is too strong with BG2! Can't say it is an opinion I share though I get the impression that Sylvius is the type who would prefer a game like Mount and Blade in regards to how story is handled. I guess he might have a point about Imoen (though technically you can chase after Irenicus for payback or "being curious about the power he can unlock" as flimsy a reason as that is) but again you have no real reason narrative reason to investigate the Nashkel mine and the iron plague other than "just because", I suppose in most narrative driven video games there are some concessions you need to make in order to move the plot along and if you have no interest in following the plot what are you playing for? As far as I am concerned Baldur's Gate 2 is definitely the better of the 2, I mean I like Baldur's Gate 1 but compared to the second there are a lot of glaring deficiencies, Baldur's Gate 2 had far better writing, a far more engaging plot and more interesting locations and questlines, not to mention the companions had far more personality and more to add to the story beyond just being an extra helping hand in combat. Also there is a greater sense of intrigue right from the start of Baldur's Gate 2 and the game does more to engage you in the plot while everything in Baldur's Gate 1 seems more mundane, more humdrum and takes longer for the plot to ramp up. I suppose Sylvius also has a point about having more freedom to explore the map however most of the areas you can explore are empty wilderness environments that you have no real narrative reason to go to beyond making your way through it onto your next location and generally little to find in these areas other than trash mobs and the occasional unique encounter. As much as I do like Baldur's Gate 1 I do get why people think it is overrated, generally when people talk about how great the Baldur's Gate series is and while they generally speak of the series as whole (there was a mod that combined BG2 and BG1 into 1 game) generally it is mostly Baldur's Gate 2 they are thinking of.

I would say I played almost 100 hours in Skyrim. And the experience, although at first addictive when I really thought "I could do anything", made me realize I will never play another sandbox again. Because getting able to do anything means it's all meaningless. I quit after a month and have never touched it since.
I think Breath of the Wild is overrated. I played 6 hours of it. It was my first Zelda game ever. I even tried to imagine that Zelda was really sort of Zevran from Dragon Age. But no. Knowing that it was unabashedly a copy pasta story with a new twist that fans somehow forgive them for? (still head scratching that one) on top of all the maker damned Telletubbies noises...on top of the battle mechanics that make you die over and over... Whatever. And I'm salty that they'll get GOTY over HZD, which is an amazing game and NEW IP without ANY Telletubbies noises.

I know most people will gasp and probably hate me, but I'm gonna say it anyway: Skyrim. I loathe that game, I found it so incredibly dull and imagine that it's only the mods that make people enjoy it so much. You know how so many say they're tired of hearing about how great TW3 is? That's how I feel about Skyrim Nah no shortage of hate for Skyrim in this thread.
