What is so shit about Amalur? R.A. Salvatore. Blunt, but the writing and quest design of amalur was the weakest link of that game. Still, it wasn't too bad overall.

Freedom Force (2002) was a strategy game based on the Silver Age of Comic Books. The franchise only had two games and the second one ended on a cliffhanger that was never resolved :^( Jade Empire (2005) had excellent writing all-around and the combat is, in my opinion, some of the best Bioware has ever had in a game. It never received a sequel :^( I should note that both of these franchises have sick theme songs:

Shock Troopers, a overhead 2D arcade shoot em up ala Ikari Warriors with multiple characters and paths to choose from. I'd like to see a third game that's more akin to the first one (Second game is good but not quite as good). The last game in this duology was released back in the 90s.
Zwei, technically isn't dead as we finally received an english localization of Zwei 2 (as "Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection") on steam, but that's a game from '08, we could use a Zwei 3. Zwei is a JARPG that's very similar to Falcom's other franchise, Ys, which is a great plus.

Strider deserves a full on 3d sequel by Capcom. I have no idea why they'd reboot Bionic Commando and not Strider.

Title, what are some game series that you would like to see make a glorious return? For me personally, I've been itching for a new, proper Fable game. Fable: the Journey was crap and deserves all the hate it gets, but Fable 1-3 were still quite good even if flawed. They were roughly cut diamonds, still valuable albeit with a few blemishes, but with some refinement, can become proper gems. Fable 2 in particular was one of the most fun RPGs of the 2000-2010 decade, in my opinion. Yeah gotta admit despite their flaws I do enjoy the Fable series, and yet for all it's flaws while it may be an unpopular opinion it was one of the few RPGs that in my opinion actually understood what an RPG should be about. I wish we got a proper 4th installment but considering that Microsoft is like EA in that it has no idea how to handle good franchises or studios I am not sure we ever will. Still if there ever is a Fable 4 then they should definitely take more inspiration from the 2nd game as that was definitely the best game in the series.

Let's go obscure. Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. The world of Arcanum was fantastic, the deep lore and quasi-historical references were great. The actual game itself...not so much. Terrible in presentation and sound, graphically outdated, combat-wise it was terrible, and some character builds honestly sucked. Can do a lot with the setting and the ideas of it. Harsh assessment but not altogether unfair, to me Arcanum feels like a game that was half finished, a lot things in the game feel unfinished and there are certain features and abilities that feel like they should have had more use than they ended up having. Still gotta say there were some really good ideas in this game and I love the flexibility and variety of character builds and the freedom the game gives you in how to act, would love to see some sort of sequel or spiritual successor, even if the game was not set in the Arcanum universe itself just a game that takes the ideas behind Arcanum and expands upon and improves them.

It never received a sequel :^( Personally I would much rather see a sequel to Jade Empire than a continuation of the Dragon Age series, at least the universe in that game is somewhat different to most RPG settings and Thedas really feels like a bargain bin copy of more popular medieval fantasy universes.

I am pretty harsh as a critic. Games I love have flaws in them, imagine if I hate a game... One of the biggest problems with arcanum in the end is the sort of "dead end" options for character builds, so I tend to focus on min maxing to be a certain "role" in the end. If I were to make one change, I'd add a profession system to give a net gain bonus to a skill or attribute, or even a starting spell or tech option. The backgrounds did that but we're wildly unreliable.

For rehashes/remakes/sequels:Lucusart's Gladius. The gameplay was fun, and the world was interesting. The story even ends on a cliffhanger that is never resolved. The Outfit. Okay, so the story was over the top action movie garbage, but the gameplay was fun; what can I say, I'm a sucker for games that hybridize genres, (in this case 3rd person shooter with RTS) and do it well. War of the Monsters. This game was fun back when it came out, it would be great if we could get a current gen version. A continuation of Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes, and no, that lousy MMO knock off I saw a couple of years ago doesn't count. In that same vein, I would love a new Phantasy Star, again though, not the MMO-lite abomination we got a few years ago, but more of the offline/local co-op variety.
Honorable mentions:
I saw, Dead Space was mentioned earlier. I too would love to see that series brought back. Personally, I didn't have a problem with the 3rd one, and I actually enjoyed playing co-op with a friend. World of Darkness/Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, this game is probably THE BEST urban fantasy RPG ever created (so anything created will be hard pressed to live up to that standard). I would love to see more titles in this universe, and as much as I have been down on MMOs, the now-canceled World of Darkness game looked amazing in concept, with players being able to experience all the various supernatural elements that that setting had to offer. Hmm, what else? Well if we're talking brand new amalgamations of several existing franchises, I would love to see a Shadowrun game with the quality of gameplay and story that the Shadowrun Returns series has, with the multiplayer functionality that Shadowrun Chronicles has. While we're at it, I would love to see an expansion of player options to this hypothetical game that brings customization and mechanics more on par with the sheer diversity that the PnP game has. I have so many runner concepts that I would love to bring to life on electronic media that just aren't possible with the current selection of games. A Dresden Files RPG would be amazing to play as well, a more 'cheerful' World of Darkness if you will.

Although not "dead" (as in discontinued) there are a few franchises I'd like to see a "return to glory". Halo being probably my #1. 343 does it semi-alright but the franchise has gone no where but downhill (not exclusive to 343 either, I do put it on Bungie and Reach as well)since they took control when it comes to player retention, sales, how much halo is talked about in the gaming news, etc etc. so much of it has changed compared to the originals from the art design, soundtrack, gameplay, just about everything really. 343s 2 big contributions to me is their vastly superior forge and a little more care into the lore (although there's tons of contradictions to them and they're using it to much to back the multiplayer). The mcc was also arguably one of the biggest fails for a Triple A company, you had gold right front of you and you botched it up. The kicker is how does change happen when they're still making bank even with declines in sales and such.
#2. gears of war: it's really not in a bad place as it does alright being a small niche franchise but it isn't exactly performing well being an "exclusive" to Xbox. It's not a system seller like it used to. I also think they played it to safe reusing assets from gears 1-3. The swarm are still the same old enemies but with a new name. Why bring the enemy back from the dead? As for the multiplayer itself, it's just no where near as big as it used to be so I'm always playing with/vs the same players all the time.
#3. funny you mention fable 👍 It would be nice to see it back instead of doing these card games and whatever the hell theyre doing with the franchise now. Not a huge fan of fable 3 (and I think that's where part of the big issue was when it came to getting shut down to a much smaller role in the market).
#4. Jak and Daxter: doesn't even have to be those two specifically, they could introduce a new character/duo. I miss fighting the metal heads and just the adventure altogether (really would love a remake or backwards compatibility for them all as I doubt we'll ever see any continuation of it, it left on a relatively good note).

No so much dead but i used to love playing basic arcade racing games an now adays it all seems to be about how 'realistic' it can be or is, just give me something like the old sega rally
C@C Red Alert Medal of Honour Allied Assault, prob best ww2 game i ever played an still sometimes do, hands downs, imo, beating bf1942 an the whole cod ww series, pity they destroyed it with at best mediocre expansions an follow ups, would honestly pre-order a hd remaster

Mass Effect Agreed. I'd also like to see another Jade Empire, and more KotOR with the original's SW vibe. TSL didn't feel at all like a proper SW story to me. It was weird, though not a bad experience. The Legacy of Kain series was the first series I'd ever experienced with true top-shelf VA and cinematics. It's where Amy Hennig first revealed her talent for story and world-building. The series never got a proper finish, as Amy departed for Naughty Dog and Eidos had no idea what they were doing. It ended on a hopeful note that asked the player to head-canon the ultimate fate of Nosgoth, the world in which the story happens.
