Been a while since I played this game, only really played through the game once as a Gangrel and for some reason I feel like giving this game another shot, however are there any mods out there that make the game look a little less dated? Just something to update the resolution a bit and whatnot. Also got the game on steam but got an error when I try to boot up the game saying "available memory less than 15mb!!! -1", anyone know of a fix?
Also clan suggestions? I know everyone always suggests Malkavian but is the gameplay really that much different than any other clan outside of a few wacky dialogue options? It would seem to me that the Nosferatu change up the game in a more meaningful way not being able to show themselves to humans and whatnot.

You have some on planetvampire or something, but really not that many...cosmetics, some quests add on, rebalance and patches. Class comes down to choice of gameplay, some dialogue ( Malk especially, though most is "fluff") and you can gain different kind of haven ( apartment) later on. What type of character you want to play? Stealth ( Nosferatu), Melee ( Brujah, Gangrel), Shooter or Mage ( Tremere). Toreador, Ventrue and Malks, are more of mix in between. They also have their own restrictions and occasional unique dialogue/instant win options.

Well I think I mostly had my heart set on a Nosferatu playthrough since that seems to be the most different from the other playstyles but considering I have not played the game in quite a while I was thinking I might play one of the regular clans and play Nosferatu later to better gauge how different the playthrough is, mostly just taking suggestions based on what other people had the most fun playing as.
If I go Nosferatu then of course I will be going mostly stealth and I assume best to go melee to compliment? Been a while since I played but can't remember there being stealthy options for guns? Just curious about the difference between melee weapons and unarmed? Is unarmed viable and does it offer some sort of advantage over melee weapons or is it best to go with a melee weapon if you are going melee?
Also a little confusion over the skills, most of them are fairly straight forward however a little unsure of the usefulness of inspection and research? Inspection as far as I can tell just highlights items in the world but is it really needed? Also how often does research come into play?

Also I don't remember the game being this floaty, like walking on ice.

I'm not actually sure what inspection does. but research lets you buy/find books to increase your skills with.
Melee is the recommended in this game, but guns can work too. Just ammo is expensive, and it can really eat into your funds to keep your guns supplied. Personally, I like weilding a sword/axe and ruining some undead things day. I will say, I've never done a purely punchy, kicky run through. Maybe you could try that? Though, just remember that those that fight and run away, live to fight another day. And your brawl skill (related to your melee skill) does say how easy it is to feed off someone.
That said, stealth isn't about killing things. Stealth is about avoiding being seen. I would recommend you spec heavily into hacking/lock picking for stealth. Though you can just lookup the passwords for computers online, if you don't want to spend points on hacking.
Also, I've never gotten the apartment in this game. I have no idea how to go about getting that place. But I do like my little flat in santa monica. So I can't complain either.

Pretty sure Lacroix gives you the downtown apartment as long as you don't piss him off. Tremere and Nosferatu get their own places in the Tremere sanctuary and the sewers.

But that might be something to try in the future.

Well I don't know how 'vanilla' you are wanting to keep everything, but the Clan Quest Mod is a great addition to the base game with new, well quests, and story lines related to each clan. If you are looking for a more radical departure I would recommend the Antitribu mod, it brings in clans like the Tzimice, and Lasombra as playable options along with brand new powers and disciplines.

Inspection as far as I can tell just highlights items in the world but is it really needed? Also how often does research come into play? it is actually the most fun to play, next to Malk. Most people ( who you can have dialogue with) will respond...man, you look like shit ( lol). Kind of funny. You can't feed on hookers, if I remember right, and you need to be careful not to walk right into civilians. Unarmed really doesn't work well, mid to late game, for non Gangrels ( in animal form). Still useful with few points, as it helps with feeding while in combat. Inspection is useless ( if you pay any attention to environment), but you need research for reading manuals ( that boost your stats/talents/skills). I'd recommend a walkthrough/guide on this and holding onto it...they are unique and they work only on specific level ( example: if you have melee at 4, manual that raises it up to 4 won't do anything). There are also some npcs that can give you free training at specific points in the game. For Computers/hacking, you can read passwords online ( they remain the same), so no sense investing in that. Lockpicking is also only worth a few points ( you can temporarily boost it with that Blood ability).

Is it worth playing with the "+ patch" on the unofficial patch? Not sure what it changes exactly or how much it strays from the original experience? I know it adds a history selection which changes your character's stats in subtle ways but beyond that what does it do?

It pretty much expands the game while being lore friendly, so it's a given.

I know it adds a history selection which changes your character's stats in subtle ways but beyond that what does it do? def worth it. Might even be required if your game keeps crashing during startup. the unofficial patch fixes that problem. Thought the GOG version of the game, comes with that patch as a a part of the installer.
