This might be an obscure one, but Freedom Force is one of my favorite video games of all time. It's an outstanding tribute to the Silver Age of Comics, complete with an over-the-top cast of heroes, animated secret origin stories, and plenty of campy one-liners. It also has an amazing theme song (which is also played in the sequel, Freedom Force vs the Third Reich).
In my personal opinion, it's the best superhero video game ever created.

If I listed all the games I have never finished..You guys would kick me off this site ( uhh hhmm..Red Dead Redemption, Half Life 2 )..to name just a few. I have been thinking about some more games...Ninja Gaiden Black for the og xbox. that was the 1st game, I needed to buy a game guide cuz I couldnt figure our where to go or what was going on. One of the last games I remember spending the entire weekend playing the game on the couch, in front of the TV..we are talking 40 straight hours...was Max Payne 2 ...I had never even played Max Payne 1. I rented part 2 on a friday night from blockbuster..came home, didnt play that night//woke up and started playing early saturday morning..before I knew it,, it was sunday night around midnight. Have you ever lost track of time when playing something?

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - mostly for nostalgia but it's still a fun game
The Last Of Us - one of the best games of the Xbox 360/PS3 era
Red Dead Redemption - same deal with The Last Of Us
The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time - that stupid fairy aside, one of my all time favourites

I second what vroomvroom already mentioned! For me, KOTOR happens to be my favorite video game ever for an infinite number of reasons (storytelling, characters, mechanics, music, pure nostalgia et. al), but the second KOTOR shines as a simply good game. I played it about six years ago, not long after I picked up the first game, and I liked it kinda. I came back to it a year or two ago out of curiosity, and had the right mind to download the mod which fixes the game to a near complete state, and I completely fell in love with it! As a Star Wars fan since childhood, I would recommend the game to anyone with even a little bit of interest, not because it plays like a Star Wars story, but because it expands upon the lore by chipping it away (if that makes sense). I don't need to feel like I'm returning home to enjoy TSL as it can easily stand by itself as a solid game through the story and characters.
Gushing aside, Fallout: New Vegas is also a game deserving of any praise it receives. And because I like reiterating what others have already said, Grim Fandango is an amazing adventure game with what I see as the best use of the grim reaper concept.

I don't know where to start but the first thing that popped into my mind was Secret of Mana for SNES. Played that game nonstop as a kid and poured hours into it. Was even more fun when my brother, sister, and I would all play together since it went up to three player. So many fond memories playing it and the music was so good for a game at that time.

Great thread! Nothing gets the feels going like this, and it's full of great ideas for things I haven't played, too!
Mass Effect trilogy (obviously)
Legacy of Kain Series: While I enjoyed the first okay, this really took off when Amy Hennig took the reins. As the story of Raziel and Kain unfolded across the numerous games, I couldn't wait for the next installment. It was the first cinematic action game of which I'm aware. The VAs are incredible and the lore is engrossing for a lore-nerd like myself. It all ended pretty well, with an optimistic cliffhanger, you could say, as Amy Hennig left for Naughty Dog to create some new IP. :grumble grumble:
DA Origins: This one captured my imagination in a way the rest of the series, while well crafted, just hasn't. The Wardens, the Blight, the Dark Roads -- there is a bleakness to it that is moving, the dim light amidst the darkness. The companions were incredible. The whole thing was amazing, despite being pretty dated, in many ways, for its time. I won't go on and on about, since everyone here know it well.
KotOR: I bought an XBox solely for this game, back in the day. This may be my favorite BioWare game. It kills me that I can't play it right now. I've been feenin' to play it for months.
KotOR2: It's not the masterpiece that the original was, and the story is a bit weird for SW, but it's a good game. It upgrades KotOR in many ways, mechanically. I really wish I could play this one, too.
Jade Empire: See above. I really love this game, as unchallenging as the gameplay was. The cast was great. I'm always surprised it doesn't get more love on these forums.
Uncharted Series: I was bummed when Amy Hennig left Eidos and the Legacy of Kain series for Naughty Dog. My mood was improved when she created Nathan Drake and the gang. Their story was a fun ride, and raised the bar for the entire industry.
I could go on with more, but I'll take a break. Again, great thread!

Ten favorites, apart from BioWare's games... and in no particular order... well, except the first. 8-) 1. Half-Life: The original. This is my all-time #1 favorite. That game was pure magic. Even today I remember how I felt when I first played it. Just... wow. 2. Portal 2: Improved upon the original - which was damn good to begin with. So. much. fun. 3. Skyrim: A good game which turned into an outstanding game with the help of Bethesda's amazing mod community. 4. Rune: And old viking-style game which I absolutely loved. Played countless times. 5. Syberia: Amazing art direction and music. Just a magical game - period. When I heard Syberia 3 was coming out in December, there were damn near tears. 6. Max Payne: Even though bullet-time was it's gimmick (but a good one...), it was just a bloody good noir game overall. The follow-ups never quite had the same magic though. 7. DOOM: In a nutshell - the best damn FPS I've played in years! 8. Descent: I can't tell you how many hours I've sunk into this game. The most fun spaceship-shooter I've ever played. I loved the range of maneuverability with the ship and we had so much fun playing over the network at work. 9. Clive Barker's Undying: Thanks Obsidian Gryphon for reminding me of this! I keep forgetting the name. Loved that game too. 10. Tomb Raider (reboot): They did a damn fine job on the reboot. Loved the tomb puzzles (easy, but so much fun), combat was solid, and fantastic environments. Lara and her friends were all handled well too. Though I always get a chuckle how quickly Lara goes from untrained noob, with a huge emotional struggle with her first kill... to then brush herself off and go on the most epic of killing sprees, slaughtering hundreds of fanatical, armed mercenaries without batting an eye.

So, besides Bioware? (only 2 would make the list, for me - never played ME)
Hmm...
In rough chronological order;
Quest for Glory: So You Want to be a Hero Quest for Glory II: Trial By Fire Civilization I Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords Vampire The Masquerade : Bloodlines Football Manager 2006 Batman: Arkham City (GotY Edition) Civilization V Pillars of Eternity The Witcher 3
The above all because of how they made me feel at the time I was playing them/release.
Some, obviously wouldn't/don't stand up to the passing of time, but damn, they were good when they came out.

Some, obviously wouldn't/don't stand up to the passing of time, but damn, they were good when they came out. I've seen some games come up since my last post here that made me think, "Yeah, I could have mentioned it," but that's nothing compared to how I felt when I saw the first two Quest for Glory games on your list! Those are easily two of the finest games I've ever played. Their simultaneous reverence/irreverence for the fantasy/hero genre was endearing, the mini-games were fun (mostly), and nearly every problem had multiple solutions available (the classic example being the retrieval of a ring from a tree: a fighter could throw rocks to dislodge it; a thief could climb to it; a mage could use telekinesis). Some of those things might not sound like much, but for a game with a command prompt (it came out in 1989), that was amazing! I only regret that I didn't have a computer that could run part 3 when it came out, so I lost touch with the series.
