What has me especially convinced that this will be a travesty of Tolkien's legacy is the fact that the show has hired " intimacy coordinators" to help in the direction of certain scenes. Because that's how you pay respect to the work of a person who's work; based heavily on Christian mythology & ideals mind you; as well as established the whole genre of fantasy as we know it is by throwing tits and ass on the screen like an HBO or Netflix adaptation And to think recently we've been told that "boobs are bad" but they're going to use these intimacy coordinators on a work that draws heavily on Christian morals. This is LOTR not ASOIAF. Yeah, but face it, they're all looking for the next Game of Thrones series...

I’m not terribly hopeful for this, but that they apparently did that credit sequence with practical effects is encouraging on the visual side of things. I’ll reserve judgment.

I do like that they reference Howard Shore's movie OST quite a bit in the teaser music.

Not even going to bother with Amazon's LOTR whatever from what I've read so far. We're very very very lucky / fortunate to have Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy.

I’m kinda worried this is going to be like every other fantasy show I’ve watched recently. Both Wheel of Time and The Witcher had problems, though the latter was better, with what seemed like arbitrary changes or stuff added just for more drama, while being somewhat awkwardly structured series.
I’m worried this could turn into the same thing, with it just having the typical quality of writing from these sorts of shows. It might be “fine” but for a LotR show telling a new story I expect more.
Also sort of worried after the trailer they might try to turn young Galadriel into an action girl.

I haven't really followed this much. I lost interest in LotR after the Hobbit movie was announced to be two and then three (to the point that I still haven't watched any of them), but my understanding was that this is based on the Silmarillion, right? So, a kind of history text book of Middle Earth. Broad strokes but not a lot of detail?
Doesn't that offer a fairly blank canvas for them to actually create, rather than have to adapt existing stories?

Still gonna watch it though.

It’s drawing on the “Second Age” They have room to make their own story, rather than trying to fit an existing story into a predetermined set of episodes, which is good. Given the budget and the property though, my standards to meet are gonna be high for this.

Dwarven women have no beards btw. Nothing I've seen in the trailer screams Tolkien but a fanfiction fantasy trip by the writers. Of course, this is imo. You may like this show.

Honestly, Galadriel being a warrior is hardly a stretch. Tolkien did write that at least some elven women could fight in extreme circumstances, and Galadriel specifically he described as athletic and Amazon-like in her youth. That doesn't necessarily mean the character was a warrior at some point, but it is less of a stretch than Jackson making Arwen into an action girl in the LotR film trilogy. The show could still be terrible for other reasons, of course.

It's also possible she was Queen Melian's (a Maiar) apprentice in Doriath in the First Age. She was able to maintain Imladris despite Sauron's (who had lost much of his native power due to his creation of the one Ring) encroachment due to her power and skills. The pure Ring she bore helped to preserve her native power rather than enhance it. She's not a warrior. She's a sorceress. She doesn't need armour and swords. That's all I'm going to say.

Well, as an Ainur, Sauron (Or Mairon as he was originally known) is older than the world itself so I wouldn’t say they’re close in age. I’ve never seen Galadriel as someone whose power derives from physical prowess. She’s powerful but primarily someone honored for her wisdom and insight. I would rather see her written as a problem solver with intelligence instead of swords.

Her strength came from her knowledge, her lore-mastery, and vast experience as one of the few elves left in Middle Earth to remember the light of the Two Trees, the Darkening of Valinor, and the Exile of the Noldor. And Tolkien portrayed such wisdom as being generally SUPERIOR to strength of arms.

She's not a warrior. She's a sorceress. She doesn't need armour and swords. That's all I'm going to say. Gandalf is not a warrior, he is a wizard. He doesn't need a sw... oh, wait Trust me, I'm a fan of the books first and foremost, and I agree there's plenty to nitpick. But Galadriel being a warrior, while not a creative choice I necessarily agree with, is a really minor adaptational change, if that. I'd be more worried about there being hobbits in the Second Age, or the mysterious meteor traveler. I'm getting flashbacks of Jackson's Legolas from the elven archer in the teaser, which is... not ideal. I guess I'm not that bothered because I can afford to give the show an episode or two at least, since I already have access to Amazon Prime. If it doesn't work for me, I'll proceed as I always do with bad adaptations: shrug and move on to better things.
