I would recommend The Witcher series. Especially the first one plays a bit like Dragon Age. And heavily story-focused too!
Another title I could think of is Demonicon: The Dark Eye. While not terribly good it's kind of decent and the story is okay. It's also a bit more action-orientated than Drakensang (same universe, pleased to hear that one recommended!).
Kingdoms of Amalur is another one. A huge flop and no sequels, but it's actually quite decent imho.
What about Fable?
Dragon Age 2 being the best game ever? Not something I hear everyday! The consensus about it seems more forgiving nowadays than at release. I like it too, despite the recycled environments. I like how the story is more up close and personal compared to other Bioware's 'save the universe' storylines.

You might enjoy the Risen series. First one is more a classic island setting with outlaws and mages. 2nd and 3rd go more towards pirates but also contain voodoo magic and other types. The last 2 also get companions that might give you a bit more of the Bioware game feel. Though u can only have one active at a time

I like how the story is more up close and personal compared to other Bioware's 'save the universe' storylines. I think its strong central cast generally keeps it in a favorable light for some people. I myself largely forget about the copypasta on account of just getting a kick out of all the memorable character content.

Master Vrook wanted to strip the Exile of the Force, him and the Council got what was coming to them. No, they was doing the right thing. Sometimes you need to castrate criminals to do justice and to prevent more abuse.

Sometimes you need to castrate criminals to do justice and to prevent more abuse. That is never answer. Anyway, their judgement was based in arrogance, the only reason they stripped the Exile off the Force was because they saw her as a threat to their Order not because she was a criminal. They already Exile her as Punishment for going to war now they are taking the Force away. It’s arrogance, perpetuated by some code that the Jedi believe is the absolute truth of the Force, they are no better than the Sith in that regard.

It was left to the player to decide if s/he wants to label the Jedi as awful and terrible hypocrites etc, or think otherwise. It’s kindda always the case with the SW games. It’s either the Sith are “not as bad” or “Jedi are not so good” stories. One of the reasons I like Jedi Consular story is that you can play as not an exception to all rules. Honestly, a typical Jedi is anything but represented as a protagonist. Spiritual characters like that with attachments surpassing personal and individual tend to cause suspicion of sincerity or capability, or snark that it is not real or human or relatable, or at the least prompts the player to want to change things because the plot makes them a victim, so I am pretty happy to be given a chance.
But I still love playing the Exile.

It is the fact that the game puts the Jedi's motives into questioning that makes Kreia a compelling character in the first place, whether you choose to be a laughably evil maniac or a benevolent Jedi, Kreia's point still stands and the Council still judges you for everything wrong that has happened to the galaxy. Their refusal to see beyond their own code, teachings and circumstance is ultimately what made the Mandalorian Wars turn out the way it did, in that sense they are no better than a Sith who knows nothing but malice like Darth Sion. You can be benevolent without holding someone's hand for them, and you can be selfish without being cruel.

I second the recommendations of The Witcher, Kingdoms of Amalur, Jade Empire and Fable, and will add Overlord to the list. You may also want to give Bloodlines a try, though it is more of an urban fantasy.
