The elves were inspired by sad tales of many oppressed groups or nations. And if you want to claim that it's an "allegory of specific people"... well, I'd like to point out that this is a double-edged sword - because the Elvhen civilization was ruled by tyrants and their lackeys, who have enslaved most of people and almost destroyed the whole world. This ain't a black and white thing.... no pun intended. Ironically, Elvenhan is more than likely an allegory - or more like cautionary tale - for our whole modern civilization in case things went in bad direction, not ancient people and past history. As for "everything being Solas's fault"... you're going to have to elaborate. For what we know, Solas has saved everyone from Evanuris and whatever they've had in store for the world after Mythal was murdered. I'm afraid it is. Because the elves were suffering under systematic racism created by humans to oppress and setting them up for failure, just like us so nice try of saying " no it isn't ".

I think you got stuff from story all wrong. I mean... who do you think Fen'Harel's and Veil creation was against? At that point in history humans either didn't exist, were far away or were not in position of power.

And they're writing the elves to be just as bad as humans to make it OK to hate and discriminate elves, and they don't want it to be the elves are not malevolent and humans are it's called cognitive dissonance.

And they're writing the elves to be just as bad as humans to make it OK to hate and discriminate elves, and they don't want it to be the elves are not malevolent and humans are it's called cognitive dissonance. ... Well, certainly saying that "they write elves as 'as bad as human'" and then claiming that "elves are not malevolent and humans are" is a cognitive dissonance. It can't be both. I think you may have created your own story and mythology in your own head - hence the dissonance with the actual story you experience. Also - writing people as more complex and complicated doesn't mean that specific races are either 'good' or 'malevolent'. The world is more complicated than that and we know that Bioware stories are too. And I think that claiming that they're writing someone to be as bad as others and therefore OK to hate and discriminate (since when BW was for discrimination or hate?) is not only unsubstantiated, but entirely unfair.

haha yeah all quiet xD omg i wasn't online here for months. i played DAI that often that i had to take a longer pause. I am also glad ppl were still active. considering the first reviews/previews of mass effect andromeda.. i just hope they don't mess up facial expressions in a DA:4 game.. god. Well, here's the thing... I don't think the facial animations in MEA are as bad as people are claiming - but maybe that's because I'm hardly ever fully content with facial animations, even in non-RPGs. And I am genuinely surprised people claim that Witcher3 or DAI had better facial animations... uh, they didn't (though DAI has - in quite few respects - better facial animations than TW3). The irony is that MEA has pushed the envelope and made their characters MORE expressive, with camera more focused on their faces, instead of being more strategic about it like in DAI - sadly the animations in big RPGs aren't there yet and each improvement in terms of facial textures or models only exacerbates the Uncanny Valley effect. I wouldn't worry about DAI though. There's no reason for it - while not perfect, I'm actually glad to see improvements over face and body animations as a whole, plus - while DA team has different art and animation team - I'm fairly sure BW overall is going to learn their lessons. This weekend I got to chance to play a few hours at a friend with EA access and I was really disturbed. some charas look good and some.. nothing is moving not an eyebrow nothing. some really look like puppets I think DAI s expressions look good I can always see the emotions the eyebrows, eyes, mouth moving etc. witcher 3 facial expressions are not perfect but good for me. There are def improvement with the body animations and I do hope they will learn again from some of their projects.

I don't actually find that expression on Ryder awful... I've seen actual human beings make that expression. It makes her seem more believable, imo. Not everyone is too cool to pee, and considering all the complaints I see from critics about the BioWare protagonist always being some sort of Chosen One, I think it's awesome that Ryder is not too cool to make funny, really human, faces.

I think Ryder looks pretty adorkable, and I like it.
I don't mind the Inquisitor's smile for Cullen, either. It might not be glamorous but it's awkwardly charming.

I don't think it is that the characters in MEA occasionally pull strange faces so much as they generally seem rather wooden and have fixed stares and very wide eyes, which actually makes them seem emotionless. They also seem a bit generic in appearance, which I gather is also true of your own character creation. Compared with DAI they are not good, which is strange because both use the same engine, so it can't be just down to that. Think how much emotion they were able to get into Solas' face and whilst the random characters around the game could seem fairly generic, the actual main characters are all very different in appearance and have a full range of facial expressions. So unless the game is very rushed, I don't see why there should not be the same quality in DA4.

Yea, but compared to DAI the MEA CC is quite limited - however, to be fair to MEA, you can only play human there. I mean, it's hard to make a "generic" Qunari or an elf, which look quite distinct in DAI.

Possible Mass Effect: Andromeda spoilers, but Solas-related: Geeky-Jez thinks she found a message from a certain elf on a datapad in-game: Hmmmm ... hard to tell, 'cuz it can be just dismissed as generic goodbye note from someone who never revealed true feelings to another person. BUT... I suppose one who wished to see a connection could see one - and do so fairly easily. The last thing Solas called Lavellan was 'my love'. Prior to Trespasser she never really understood just how much she meant for him - he didn't reveal the truth about himself (or how much he at least considered abandoning for her), even though it was supposed to be a way to demonstrate his feelings. He was never brave anough to do so - and from dialogue in Trespasser he indeed seemed to think that she'd reject him if she knew who he was. He's pretty convinced his mission will be the end of him. "Owing noting to anyone" is also interesting, because it suggests both sides are indebted somehow - might refer to both Solas and Inquisitor and their duty towards their people/the world at large. And of course using the world 'dream' is also suggestive ;P Another thing that's funny is that this is technically an alien note on an alien 'another world' - and Solas was indeed something of an alien in modern Thedas. All in all, there's enough room for interpretation. I guess someone could try and see if there's iambic pentameter involved
