Here's the origin of the Mythal's Guardian Theory and the origin of the Solas Was a Spirit Theory, for those who may not have seen them. (iirc thats where they came from anyway) Even if he didn't used to be a spirit, certainly there's an extra dimension to his rage at how the mages hurt Wisdom when you consider that he's an ancient elves and ancient elves a) seem to have been pretty 'spirity' themselves [closer in nature to spirits than modern elves. 'brethren of the air', changing forms, closer ties to the fade, etc] and had a society where they lived and worked alongside spirits [spirit lecturer example]. Why would Mythal need protection? She was very powerful, but she was one very powerful being alongside multiple others. The power of figures like Elgar'nan and Falon'Din in the lore is evident, as examples. I think in the old days Mythal had her hands full trying to keep balance/keep the assholey Evanuris in line. She stopped them from doing some things they wanted to do, intervened in their affairs.. for good reasons, but it's not the kind of thing that endears you to someone who hungers for power/vengeance/gain. She had enemies, powerful enemies. And she warred with the Titans. Also feel like ancient Evanuris politics was pretty Game of Throney.. everyone has enemies, even Queens. She could also be pretty terrible (high fantasy terrible, not 'omg so awful' terrible) in her own right. On Solas' quote on trusting friends only to be betrayed.. think about how he was betrayed by his friend Felassan (layers - with the quote I feel like he's talking about something from his ancient past, not the Felassan thing, but it is another layer upon layer lol). Outside of that I do think it is peculiar / of note that it's "her" face, not its or his. highly likely it's in reference to Mythal somehow. On Solas failing Mythal, think about how he must feel knowing he failed her before WHILE he kills her in the post-credits scene. he's failing her there again in a way, this time by his own design and intentionally. double wham

If Solas was the guardian of Mythal... does that mean that all of the Evanuris had guardians? Perhaps Dirthamen wasn't a god, but the guardian of Falon'Din - it would explain why they seem to have been inseparable and also why Dirthamen was known for being the god of secrets (perhaps he was spying on Falon'Din's enemies?). Something that would contradict this, however, is the fact that we can visit a temple dedicated to Dirthamen (I can not recall whether the temple dates back to the time of the Evanuris or if perhaps it is of a later date).

Hey Garnet glad you made it. Welcome Mel, lol loving and hating Solas at the same time is my favorite hobby hi opuspace! elfy discussion of all kinds is welcome here On RDF, it is a lovely forum with a welcoming community and friendly admin. There are plus points to RDF that BSNb lacks and vice versa, it's just the nature of multiple different communities and their different traits. I totally encourage you all to participate in RDF's community if you so desire, nothing precludes people from posting in both places. I did my best to express my sincere apologies and heartfelt gratitude on the Blanketfort's behalf to RDF & AW btw, both in public and in private. AW is a very sweet and genuine person. Certainly I hope to be somewhat active on RDF in the future in my capacity as an individual because I have enjoyed my time on RDF thus far. On the original thread, I'd probably have it open for longer, maybe even til right up near the end, to continue to post links, encourage people, answer queries/concerns, etc. just be a case of reiterating the link/move. folk who are gonna move later rather than now will move with the official closure. in the meantime be assured you don't all have to keep checking and reading that thread (I mean you can if you want to, obviously!), I keep an eye on it you wont miss anything Back to lore stuff, On Eleni's prophecy since it was mentioned. My thoughts on who betrayed and murdered Mythal: A combination of Elgar'nan* and Falon'Din** working in tandem, with Falon'Din's own involvement being possibly being supplemented by his brother/twin soul/lover/alter ego/split personality/guardian/whatever your opinion is Dirthamen particularly if the statue is Dirthamen***. * His threatening nature and power seemed to me to be highlighted in Trespasser. Further, betrayal by the husband mirrors closely human!Flemeth's experience with Conobar, which is important and notable. The Mythalfragment crawled to Flemeth specifically for a reason, not coincidence. Some mortals blaze brighter in the Fade in terms of their attractiveness as hosts to demons e.g. mages. I'm not saying the fragment is a demon specifically but that there's some precedent for brighter beacons/more attractive host-targets for Fadey-type creatures as it were in the lore. Flemeth was crying out for a specific kind of vengeance for a specific kind of wrong and Mythal answered. It's like two magnets or a moth to a flame, that probably assisted their close fusion also. To add, some even speculate that Mythal may have had a lover other than Elgar'nan (sometimes they speculate that it was Solas). Further mirrors with the poet that won Flemeth's heart. And if she did, another motivation for Elgar'nan to kill her beyond and in addition to general "I'm a terrible asshole and she keeps trying to keep me in line" power-hungry reasons. ** Mythal in the past rallied the others against him and bloodied him in his own temple. He sounds bloodthirsty, I don't think he forgave her for that. To add, he had a lust for power and adulation, and Mythal will have gotten in the way of that in a more general sense as she tried to keep the Evanuris in line/from doing the worst of their nonsense. It's ironic given that at least once in the past Elgar'nan and Falon'Din had a problem with each other and Mythal intervened (the duel of champions) but recall that the Evanuris' dominion probably lasted hundreds of years or more. Their rule probably consisted of a never-ending Gameofthroney bloody and deceit-filled chessgame where things went back and forth, alliances formed and dissolved, disagreements happened, plotting against each other in one decade while allying in the next, only for it to change again, on and on until the Fall. They were dicks and immortal beings have time to kill, add that to their desire for power/dominion and you see what happens. Why then the issue with trust in 'her' friends if they were such dicks? 1) Elgar'nan is a husband, that's a close person 2) in a sick way like kind of despite all the infighting I feel like they were kind of .. not friends, but sometimes loved each other, or had respect for each other 3) suspect the orchestrators (Elgar'nan and co) recruiting/turning some of Mythal's real friends in their plan/against her, using them as tools to get close to her, whatever, 4) before the Evanuris BECAME the false god-king Evanurises, they maybe WERE actual friends - remember they were generals together in a great war against some unknown enemy, before they 'ascended' and became corrupt. *** The two figures are so closely tied in the lore/according to what we know that I don't see Falon'Din doing such a thing without the assistance/knowledge of his 'brother'. Which finally ties to the possibly-Dirthamen statue in the Fade. He was one of the backstabbers. It's not perfect because the statue shows 'him' (if it is him) being stabbed not DOING the stabbing, but whenever does the Fade perfectly recreate the real world/history with its representations? Never. So those three, possibly ALSO with the involvement of some of the others (Andruil for example you could see a reason for her dislike) in an overarching conspiratorial 'we're sick of Mythal keeping us in line/acting like she's in charge/stopping us from doing things we want to do/how dare she/she's in the way' feel.

Regarding Solas' contradictory banter about the Maker. I think he was just expressing to Cassandra that he likes certain ideas about the Maker. Such as a god that doesn't feel the need to prove their power and lord it over others, etc. Which is something he detests, and something he will criticize the Inquisitor for if you have low approval.
And as for his assertions that it's better to believe in something real, I think that's interesting considering how deeply involved and connected to the fade he is--a place a lot of people in modern Thedas, even mages, would consider to be full of illusions, dream-like, and not quite "real" in the true sense. Considering he has trouble believing in the Veiled world as "real", so I think we can't look at those statements from a material point of view. He believes in concepts and ideas, and believes spirits are real. So I think maybe he's saying, the if Maker exists, it shouldn't be so unknowable like Andrastians believe. If the Maker is real, they should know it, and could contact him/it in the fade.
I don't think Bioware is ever going to reveal the Maker. But I kind of have a theory, if the Maker exists as some spirit or ancient being, then I think he might have been older than the Evanuris. Possibly a Titan like being (Andraste met him on a mountain), and possibly represented by the "Sun" that Elgar'nan buried and overthrew. I think it's pretty clear the Maker is a solar or sun god, at any rate, and early Andrastians appear to have been worshiping "light".

About whether or not the artwork means anything (from a few pages back): I think it's better to take the 'reused art asset' view. One of the devs (possibly Weekes?) said that the huge number of wolf statues didn't mean anything - they were just filling space. I know that the proliferation of wolf statues is sometimes assigned to reuse of art assets, as you showed by the weekes quote. But surely the giant one in the foyer of Dirthamen's Temple means something. Also the wolf's statue in the waterfall at Watcher's Reach, specifically mentioned in a codex about how it must be magically maintained cus it hasn't eroded. And the watcher above Watcher's Reach seems deliberately put there (again, codex entry referencing it) and seems a lot like a Dirthamen statue (though I admit I thought maybe it was meant to be a Solas statue at one point in my playthrough). There is a connection btwn Dirthamen and Fen'Harel that we have not had elaborated. Not sure *what*, but it's something.

I think the ToD dates to a time when Dirthamen was still around and in power going by the codex entry that you find there. It reads like Dirthamen was once there and was now gone at the time of the writer writing. on guardians of Evanuris-other-than-Mythal in general, safe to say it's likely I think, what powerful rulers in our world or in other fantasy worlds do not have guardians and protectors? one thing specific to DA you could refer to is how both Falon'Din and Elgar'nan had champions who fought duels on their behalf. given the assholey nature of the Evanuris I'm sure they made use of people around them in all sorts of ways for their own benefits, as well as having their own cadres of devoted followers, protectors, favored ones, high priests, etc. edit: On level assets, I think it's a mix of intentional placings for lore reasons (in some cases it's really obvious) and space-filling (I don't think we can read into the location and arrangements of every single statue).

Anything which is referenced by dialouge or codex entries is completely deliberate. It's other things - the large number of wolf statues - that we can't read too much into. I'd love to see a remake of DAO so it's actually using proper elven art assest rather than Tevinter stuff in the ruins.

I did say matters regarding height is an aggregate / average. Fenris is not an average elf. Besides, Fenris has been altered by magic and lyrium. I am not saying that such alterations can necessarily change his height but in X-Men comics, Wolverine did change a lot when he was injected by Adamantium and what was done to Leto / Fenris by Danarius is a lot like what Stryker did to Logan. Yeah I did see the similarity there. I just always found it odd that his height was affected too. I know his hair was most likely red like his sister before that, sort of like Rogue. I still find Fenris the least elf-like. Even Sera who wants to be unrelated to them is still more elf than him. Not sure why I feel that way. Maybe the lyrium really did more to him than what I thought. With Solas I knew something was odd too but once I saw Abelas then I started to guess he was more than your average elf and bald seemed to be the elf way in the ancient times! I do know those who spend time in outer space come back several inches taller from the lack of gravity compressing the spine. So it's not too much of a stretch to say lyrium can put someone through major changes like height difference. Then again, Fenris does wield some crazy large swords so maybe he was born with the physique? As for Sera, something about her knowledge of Ghilan'nain gave me pause about her background. Personally, I think she was once Dalish as a kid before getting kicked out or lost for some reason. My guess is that the hibernation is better facilitated with no hair. Good lord, can you imagine waking up after several hundred years? It'd be Rapunzel long!

I love the Solas Honey Wine picture. It goes really well with my story about what the Lavellan clan is getting up to in Wycome. I decided that the Keeper has taken a particular interest in producing mead to help with the revelry, to an old Dalish recipe. Then she also sells hangover cures, also to an old Dalish recipe. It is going remarkably well. It is fortunate that they decided to place them in the revelry capital of Thedas. I was listening to a character banter video and it occured to me. Vivienne is from Wycome. And she speaks highly of the place. Though she prolly left as a child, I wonder if she has established connections there and those can be used to Clan Lavellan's advantage if you are friends with her.

Don't really see it that way - it's not uncommon for conquered lands or places to be marked with statues/flags/whatever of the conqueror. It could be the same with Evanuris temples and Fen'Harel statues. Basically every spot taken by rebels could have be adorned by Fen'Harel's statues, either as sign that the place has been conquered or it's under protection of Fen'Harel (we see in Trespasser that many of these statues are magical). You know... kinda like every spot where Inquisitor is marked by flags and signs that say "under protection of Inquisition". Heck, it could even have been how the tradition to put Fen'Harel statues around Dalish camp has started...
