Hmmm.... I've been thinking about dreaming and how our perception of dreaming is distorted - how stuff can sometimes feel like it's happening forever, while in reality we've dreamed for like 10 minutes. Even in movie "Inception" it's a basis of suggesting that time in dreams passes way slower than in reality, to a point that when main character and his wife end up get trapped in dream state, they've felt it like spending decades together, rather than a few hours. I kinda wonder if Veilles world was like that? I mean... I'm not suggesting that ancient elves only dreamed or imagined that they lived for aeons and Solas only went to Uthenera last Thursday, but perhaps the Fade did something to "stretch" time? It could perhaps explain why time becomes way more malleable after the Breach opens and allows Alexius to modify it. Or explains why Solas tells to Inquisitor to live well, while time remains? I like your thinking. The fade sounds very much like its based our own dream world.. From what i understand of it it is shaped by a persons thoughts, emotions and expectations (much like our dreams). What Solas does when he falls asleep in ancient ruins is basically lucid dream (which is supposedly a real phenomenon). The time thing you mentioned sounds pretty much spot on since dreams can seem to last ages but yet in reality only take minutes. Time passed very differently when the veil was down. Its hard to wrap head round sometimes but i love stuff like this.

I actually have the exact opposite phenomenon usually. I'm in the dream for what feels like 10 minutes and really 8 hours has passed.
But Niall in the Broken Circle in DAO does say that time passes differently in the Fade (Or was it Mouse in the Mage Origin?), so it might very well have passed differently in the real world when the two were mingled. Of course, this would have been the normal passage of time back then. So.. I don't know how you could tell. lol Everything pre-veil would be a real **** to try to study archaeologically, I think. lol

I've not explained myself very well, i know what i mean in my head but its hard putting it into words. So, just ignore last comment 😱 either way its safe to say that there will be chaos if / when the veil is torn down!

Thinking about it... If in the film inception they feel like they've been in the dream for decades but in real life they've only been there hours wouldn't that mean that time goes quicker in the dream world? It would have to go really slow in the pre veil world for them to not age etc.. I've well and truly confused myself! Oh well. *returns to just watching videos of Solavellan rather than thinking, much safer that way*

Solas silly dad that screencap was for the numbers lol lovelykotori videos ? I wish they were Iethallan. It's all way-too-HD-for-my-own-good screenshots. Ultra quality on characters, medium-low on everything else. Knowing your priorities, very much so. :nods: I dread the time when I'll have to go through the whole folder and discard the bad pictures... Because I'm not even half done taking them ! I'm trash. I might buy an external harddisk to store all this madness without ever deleting anything.............. Solasmance hell what are you making me do Hah, something is definitely fishy regarding Time™, Bioware got me scared about every single possible thing to ever be concerned for I swear. I get the "dreamt for 10 mins and the whole night has passed" feel as well. I wonder what it will be like in DA

Well, I just meant that I, personally, when I dream, usually experience very little time passing in the dream itself. I have also had a few dreams where it feels understood (cus: dream logic) that a lot of time has passed, though. I think, for DA, the Fade could do both.

I wonder if we'll have conversations/confrontations with Solas in the fade. Would be neat. Ooh, what if the protag in the next game is also a dreamer?

ladyiolanthe thanks for that screenshot.. honestly solas looks so hot in this armor. LEVEL OVER 9000!!! XD I mean I liked him before but in this armor he leveled even more up. damn ... maybe I am just exaggerating because I read some solavellan smut. sorry I have sinned but hey 11.000 words is not so bad how long do you want it to be? or do you want to start to publish when it's already finished? Amburu 8GB of solas? pictures? videos? I have everything online.. maybe I should download and save stuff to the PC You're welcome. I am mostly writing it for myself as a cushion if the complexity of developing a video game which allows you to play multiple races and influence the world state in some ways (and may not allow us to play our Inquisitors) ends up not meeting my hopes for a nice Solas and Lavellan denouement in DA4... It's pretty complicated so if I post it on AO3, it won't be until it's done, so I can avoid inconsistencies and loopholes in my plot. It won't be smutty simply because I find writing smut to be quite awkward (I'm demi/ace). So I don't expect a lot of readers - hence why I am writing for myself.

I'm sort of a semi-lucid dreamer, but it is quite hard to "steer" or change my dreams. But I am always aware that I'm dreaming even though it feels like I'm living it, and if something doesn't end up as I want to I can easily "restart" the scene. But oftentimes the end result is the same since the changing of a scene is the hardest. It feels like it is resisting, like moving through tar and making slow progress, and then being snapped back into the original position or scene. Sometimes I can dream of the same scenario twice but in separate "naps", and then the real time can pass by in very different speeds (from my perspective). I can restart a dream scene 10 times and wake up 10 minutes later, but I can just as well end up with restarting a scene three times and waking up 8 hours later. This leads to me always being very confused when I wake up^^ Anyway.....Solas! Great guy (Only dreamt of him once, sadly) Edit: weird coding appeared out of nowhere, now removed^^

ladyiolanthe hey I'm the same so I wouldn't be bothered at all ! It seems interesting, tell us when you're done if you ever submit it anywhere :3 Tanyara I have the same experience with lucid dreaming. It's as if I was telling myself "lol there's no way I can actually change stuff" and so it doesn't happen... But i can restart scenes as well. Seems like an interesting pattern here. Last time it happens it featured SOLAS (staying in topic yes) and... oh wait my two last lucid dreams were with Solas. *dramatic gasp*

Amburu A few times it has happened that a change is suddenly effortless. Then I have to stop the scene and think "wait, wut? this isn't usually how it happens". What usually happens after that is that the scene restarts itself (damn brain) and changes it back again just to spite me  One of these occasions was actually the Solas dream. I told him to not destroy the world, and he went "oh, ok". (Haha, so anticlimactic) Then my brain basically restarted the entire Trespasser DLC, and ended with Solas taking both my arms, destroying everything and leaving me/Lavellan for Morrigan of all people. My brain: Edit: now that I think about it, I have actually had another Solas dream. The one I think I meantioned earlier when Cole has to kill Solas to stop him from killing Lavellan. And then Cole gets corrupted and Lavellan has to fight him *sob*

omg Tanyara that's way too hardcore... I'm glad my brain is kind on me LOL Stick in the Mud Hah I don't know about bananas I never eat these, I should keep track of my condition when my lucid dreaming triggers, it's mostly when i'm deeply getting lost in "daydreaming" while falling asleep, sometimes I just keep consciousness with me as I fall in dream mode. Less frequently it would just pop in the middle of the night... LOL at GDL cosplaying though xD Does he have any idea of how much the stuff about him is escalating I wonder all the time hahaha I realised I never dream of people, it's more like... spirits, presences. I'm able to dream about people i haven't met yet because i almost never have faces in dreams, but it doesn't bother me, it feels natural, idk how I can explain. Something like "stfu it's magic"-tier logic and my brain never asks But I think I can remember seing Solas' brows in one of the dreams I must have seen him clearly So he's more real than actual people to me now ? Alright lol, please don't get creeped out, less hardcode members of the fort. I'm not going to do any harm

I lucid dream sometimes. I had my first one when I about 7. My parents think I'm making it all up as they've never had lucid dreams. I've read eating bananas before bed is supposed to help with lucid dreaming if anyone is interested. I've only seen the back of Solas' head in a dream once. He was driving a hippy van full of ancient elves to Arlathan (I sneaked in the back). I think I have a hard time putting computer generated characters in my dreams since they don't look quite real enough. Instead I keep manifesting Gareth David-Llloyd in a sweater, which is nearly as good as Solas. Ha! I've dreamt that i was flying over Solas and saw the back of his head only for a second. It's glorious shine even invades our dreams!

This leads to me always being very confused when I wake up^^ Anyway.....Solas! Great guy (Only dreamt of him once, sadly) Edit: weird coding appeared out of nowhere, now removed^^ I don't think I've ever really lucid dreamed - like to the point where I have full and conscious control over my dreams. But I've definitely had a few dreams where I realized I was dreaming. Usually it results in me immediately waking up (Especially in the case of a nightmare.) sometimes it results in me just... going with it. Like it's a distant realization that I do nothing about. I pretty frequently have "sequel" dreams too, though. Like I'll go to sleep, have Dream One, wake up, and then go to sleep a while later and have Dream One: Part Two. It's the same dream, not on repeat, but an extension of the original one. There have even been times when I had a dream of a really interesting story and tried to fall back asleep again to see it play all the way out My dreams tend to have fairly coherent narratives. They still make no damn sense, but they're usually a progressive series of related events instead of just... randomness. I notice (Usually afterwards - I don't have the required prescene of mind in the dream itself to realize this) how my thoughts influence the dream, too. Like if I'm in a situation that I think should be scary, even if it isn't, then it will become scary. Usually that's how my nightmares start - from fairly innocent dreams that have one detail that I believe should be terrifying. For instance, I recently had a dream about a lunar eclipse, and I thought to myself "Eclipses should be scary, right?" which made the sky turn red and caused monsters to attack me. I don't think I've ever seen Solas in a dream. I think I saw Alistair once. And I dream about Disney characters a lot, for some reason. Huh...in my college psychology class they claimed that dreams take place in real time--that if we perceive more or less time to have passed while we sleep it is only because we skipped over events in our dream narratives or don't remember everything we dreamed. Since then I've seen articles that both support and refute that hypothesis, so I just don't know anymore. The fact that they introduced full-on time travel in addition to the Still Ruins in the Western Approach and Ameridan freezing himself and that dragon in time lead me to believe time magic is going to be a "thing" in Dragon Age now...beyond haste spells. I wonder if instead of the Fade stretching time it may have allowed the elves to move faster than the speed of light or something like that. I think there was some Cole related banter about things moving more slowly outside of the Fade. I'm just theorizing. I'm not a physicist. I only took conceptual physics in college...I think I got a B+. Maybe someone smarter can make sense of it. *Distant groaning* Oh please no. No more time travel. Ditch the stupid time travel. Leave it in the sci-fi bargain bin where it belongs.

I think Haste, Alexius' amulet, Ameridan's magic, and the elves immortality are all tapping into the same school of magic/power/special thin-Veil-Fade-thinggy. If Weekes goes full on Time Lord with Solas and the elves I won't be pleased either. I recently watched all the Matt Smith Doctor Who, and now I have my fingers crossed that it wasn't spoilers for DA4. There are too many similarities, and I know Weekes likes that Doctor. Maybe. Time travel's not bad on principal, but I've always felt like it only works in stories that are about time travel. Wedging it into what is otherwise standard high fantasy would not end well, I don't think. Especially if it's just used to wipe away consequences or pull a happy ending out of nowhere. That being said I hope Solas doesn't turn into the Eleventh Doctor either. There's a reason I stopped watching after the Tenth.

I have dreamed of Solas a couple times, although usually only briefly.

welcome guys I am new here. I am glad I am not the only one in this hell. it took me three play throughs to realize which pairing is my OTP. Guess it was also the german synchronisation's fault where solas' voice is not attractive. Glad I switched to english. sry for my crappy english I am not native english ^^' Welcome! It's great to have you here, some of us are new too with fresh feels! AlleluiaElizabeth: I haven't started Trespasser yet, hopefully this weekend I'll get to play a few hours but being almost a year old I've had it pretty spoiled, so I don't mind if you discussi it with no spoiler tag

I recently watched all the Matt Smith Doctor Who, and now I have my fingers crossed that it wasn't spoilers for DA4. There are too many similarities, and I know Weekes likes that Doctor. Weekes may like Dr. Who. but it was the David Tenant Dr he was inspired by for Solas. This was found in the interview with BioFan after Trespasser. The question on character inspiration starts about the 3 min mark. writersofthedas.tumblr.com/post/142113796489/biofanblog-biofan-interview-patrick-weekesHe gives a few specific reasons why he chose David's character and I found it rather interesting that I sensed that long before hearing this interview. The things he thought were great about David's Dr. were the things that drew me in with Solas. He's this humanitarian, very compassionate and every once in a while you see this ancient being with vast amounts of wisdom peeking out. That isn't to say that time travel/time magic won't make another showing, but it's been used in such a small amount that I don't think it's going to suddenly be a big issue. At least I hope not. While I like some time travel stuff I don't want it to be a big part of the DA series, I think it would really mess things up too much by throwing it in as a major part of the next game. One minor change to the past can cause major issues in the future!

This scene with the Tenth Doctor probably inspired Weekes in some way, as it really captures the same dichotomy between a kind and compassionate man we normally see (Solas), yet also the ancient and vengeful being that lurks just behind the mask (Fen'Harel).
