Late to the party but what the hell... DAO: Riordan!!! It's mostly the voice somehow. I had a thing for him the entire game. Can't believe I'm practically the only one here. Awakening: I don't recall much of it tbh. Too long ago. I liked Sigrun well enough. But no one really. DA2: Aveline and Varric SO MUCH. The only not batshit crazy people in the game. Bioware, you gotta stop with the romance drama, seriously. All I want is another Alistair. (Or Liara.) Sweet easygoing partners. Can't be that hard, can it? DAI: Hawke. Yes, I went there. It's totally feasible. Saner option: Harding. NOT Varric, he's not the same here. Maybe Morrigan. If we're completely disrespecting the characters and only listing who we like as people: Dorian and Cass for female inquisitor. It was kind of painful for me to be stuck with Solas, unable to dump his ass for either of these two amazing kind people. Morrigan for female warden with Alistair as daddy for an interesting threesome. ) Somewhat off-topic but... I NEED a proper Morrigan/Alistair romance. I ship them so hard.

I only picked up Dragon Age Origins because I wanted to play a dwarf and since then, my first preference has been dwarves because I really like their lore and their culture. I initially scoffed at the idea of romancing a non-dwarf, but the romances are well-written and inclusive that I've changed my mind since and have been rooting on mixed races coming together. Having said that, these are the characters I would have romanced if the option was there: DA:O: Oghren. He was a very flawed individual, but had terrific character growth. His speech to the warden in the final battle was inspiring (if you worked on his approval) and I have no doubt he would have been a fun romance. DA2: Varric. It sucked that he wasn't available. Nathaniel was also intriguing. I would have rolled a Cousland just to see the conflict between the two regarding their families' past. DAI: If Cullen wasn't race-gated, he was another character I was interested in romancing as a dwarf. I have a lot of friends that squee over him and I'm sorry I can't share in their enthusiasm the same way I could when my dwarf romanced Alistair. I am very pleased with Blackwall and consider him my canon romance even if Cullen magically had been available all along. The one romance I'd truly would love to see (but I know won't happen) is the Warden and Drunk Alistair storyline circling back around for a possible reunion. Same way Shepard and the VS parted ways at Horizon for not seeing eye-to-eye, but they found their way back to each other eventually and were stronger for it. I am a fan of romances that test the relationship between two characters and they resolve to fight for each other. This is evident with Blackwall (and offers strong potential for Solas depending on if the Inquisitor can return as a protagonist). I was floored with Blackwall's romance because they dared to go there storywise with his twist. One of the themes about Orlais was that everyone has a mask to hide behind and they explored this with Blackwall's story arc. You either really love him or really hate him. I hope the writers don't shy away from pushing the envelope like this. And finally, I feel that acknowledging racial differences in a relationship is a positive. I usually see people asking if there are special dialogue regarding that and that such things are truly appreciated. People like to feel affirmed for the race they chose to play. Love conquers all, lol. Hopefully the writers incorporate more of this in the future.

Fashionably late, but I really never gave something like this much thought, until now, at least. I was pretty satisfied with all the available romances to me, though.
Dragon Age: Origins - I was very content with Alistair, so much so that I didn't bother romancing any other character. Nor had I thought to -- which is a lie. I did attempt to go for Zevran, 'cause I got a thing for them elves, but nah. Alistair's quirkiness and kindness always won me over in the end. I have a weakness for quirky characters, the humorous lot.
Dragon Age: II - Same as the first game, I was mostly content with just one character. Which was Fenris, he had quick wit and a dry sense of humor and he's an elf! But when I got the DLC for Sebastian Vael, I liked his accent, but nothing else about him was all that appealing. And no other character in the game had my attention besides the Arishok (before he went batshit crazy). In the end, I had fun pretending he was a crazed lover chasing my Hawke around in circles because he wanted her to love him the way he loved her.
Dragon Age: Inquisition: Ah, where does one begin... Michel de Chevin and professor Bram Kenric in the Jaws of Hakkon DLC. I wish I could have romanced Dorian as a female, he's just such a gem and my favorite character in the game. Alistair was in iT HE WAS FUCKING IN IT AND SO TRANSFORMED. He belongs to the Warden, doh.
That's it though, I was never a really picky person when it comes to romance options in games of this sort. So long as they have at least one quirky and cute male romance option/for female, I am mostly content.

Ameridan. Ameridan. Ameridan. And Abelas. (My canon romance is with Solas, though. I may or may not have a thing for the elvhen gentlemen.) Also Minaeve! My male Lavellan totally started crushing on her when they talked in Haven. For DA:O, I'd like to romance Tamlen with my male Mahariel. And somehow have something with Soris (the City Elf's cousin).

DA:O Alistair and Morrigan for LGBTQ players too, characters who are important storywise should be a romance option for everyone. DA2Aveline and Varric why Bioware why! DA:I Cassandra and Solas for LGBTQ players, same reason like Alistair and Morrigan. Cullen for males too, because they cut that off and that hurts so much. He would have been a pretty good and non-stereotyped LI for LGBTQ males. Vivienne because she is a queen. VARRIC F*#CK YOU BIOWARE. Not companions: Scout Harding, I hope this happens in the next game. The Arishok because... reasons

Does anyone think that NAthaniel And Sigrun were a bit flirty with each other? I kinda see them getting together. MAybe I'm weird. I could see it. Nathaniel came across to me as someone who would pursue love through any obstacle, even if other nobles would frown on such a union. Origins: While I was pleased about the romance with Morrigan with my Surana Warden, I am curious how a romance with Lanaya would have turned out. A Circle mage who was stolen away from his family in the alienage by templars, to meet a woman who survived a dark period in her life, found a new family, and climbed her way up to a position of honor and prestige. DAII: Death. Inquisition: My Dalish protagonist didn't romance anyone, but I've felt that he could have had a wonderful relationship with Merrill if she had been a romantic option, such as if she was the elven expert (possibly even an ally of Briala). In the same way that a human protagonist had Cassandra or Josephine, a potential partner who could understand where he or she was coming from as another Andrastian, I think Merrill could have fully understood the Dalish main character's difficulty of grappling with shemlen society and culture, the schism with Chantry ideology and their templars, the mysteries surrounding the Breach and the potential significance of the Mark (perhaps wondering if it's something from the Creators), the lingering danger to the People represented by Corypheus, and the significance of a Dalish elf besting one of the ancient Magisters of the Imperium. I think it could have been a wonderful relationship where she would have understood the highs and lows the elven protagonist faced in ways that no one else could. Sharing the revelry of helping free the Orlesian elves would have also been nice since she always viewed Andrastian elves as "our people". Romance aside, I could imagine a scene where the Dalish protagonist comes onto a scene between Giselle and Merrill, with Merrill finishing a joke that ends with her saying: "The Aristocrats!"

Nathaniel is the kinda character who can be shipped with anyone... He's so suave, are we sure he's a Howe? From the loins of Rendon Howe? Did charisma skip a couple generations or something? As an aside, I far more prefer to ship Bethany with Nathaniel (especially if she's a Warden), rather than Sebastian. Sebastian might be a dashing Prince who shares her deep Andrastian beliefs, but I doubt once the lustre wore off, she'd find him as charming as she initially thought. If she wanted to shack up with a noble archer, Nathaniel would be leagues better for her.

I feel like Bethany is one of those who can be shipped with anyone. Besides her banter with Sebastian, she has suggestive banter with Isabela, Varric goes all gentlemanly around her, even Fenris says she'd look pretty in an Orlesian dress...

This reminds me of an AU fanfic I've had stewing in my head for a while, where Hawke dies during the prologue saving both the twins, leading to the events of DA2 playing out with a deeply reluctant Bethany becoming the Champion of Kirkwall of this reality. And yeah, that line from Fenris made me ship him with Bethany as well.

Nathaniel is the kinda character who can be shipped with anyone... Oh totally agree. I tend to be into Nanders (Nate x Anders) but I can see Nate x Sigrun, Nate x ...anyone, really? Cause he's smooth as fucking butter. I think it's the voice. And the brief appearance in DA2. He is one of the few who leveled up in terms of appearance. (Let's never mention poor Zevran... NEVER.) I feel like Bethany is one of those who can be shipped with anyone. Besides her banter with Sebastian, she has suggestive banter with Isabela, Varric goes all gentlemanly around her, even Fenris says she'd look pretty in an Orlesian dress... Even though she grows up throughout the game I still see Bethany as too young, and so when she's chit-chatting with Isabela, Varric, or Fenris, I see them as big brother/sister towards her. I can't even picture Sebastian returning her feelings... however, I know this is totally just me and not really supported by the game.

DA2 was the only game that I felt slightly unsatisfied with the romances. At first, I was so excited to romance Anders I could hardly stand it but after I finished that playthrough, I was upset. Then I tried Fenris and something about that romance just didn't resonate with me. I love Fenris and the whole angsty romance I did with him was fantastic but... it just didn't feel satisfying to me.
I really wish Sebastian would have been a full-blown romance option. I think I could have gotten into that one if it were. So I guess he's my choice for "if I could have anyone".

When I first played DAO, knowing absolutely nothing about the game, Bioware, or anything at all, I totally shipped Alistair/Morrigan. I thought, oooh, these two have like a love/hate thing going on - that's so hot. Then, as I played further, Alistair became my LI and I dropped that ship but in the back of my head I always thought the two of them would be a cool fanfic idea. Unfortunately, it seems that the majority of the fanbase despises anything regarding Alistair/Morrigan so I felt a bit discouraged about it. I still like the idea of them coming together eventually... Alistair hardened as a Grey Warden, Morrigan softened after the birth of her (THEIR) child... I think the two might compliment each other given time. But... you know... unpopular opinion is unpopular.

( Kidding! But yes, that is a weird ship hahaha) Honestly I already ship Cullen with too many people. Aside from my inquisitor there's also Anders and Alain. Yes, the one Cullen x Alain fanfic on FFN is by me. Of course it is. Speaking of what I think are weird ships, like Nate and Sigrun. I was honestly so sure that they had the hots for each other, and yes, the fandom tried so hard to assure me otherwise. To this day I think they would make a great couple. I think Alistair needs a strong partner to boss him a bit, and Morrigan likes being in charge of those who depend on her lol It could totally work. And Alistair loving and helping to raise his wittle archdemon son would be the cutest. Alistair and Morrigan remind me of Cassandra and Varric, you could cut the (belligerent) sexual tension with a knife. You can't convince me that Cassarric isn't hidden canon. ArtemisWell, I mean, he's so devoted to her as his commander even when he's beginning to doubt. What if there was something a bit more staying his hand from turning on the commander? It's been in my head for days that Meredith would have made at least one pass at him. And that he was at least tempted, if too buttoned up, to actually do it. It's now going to be in my massive fanfic I've been writing on. The pass, not an actual relationship.

It's now going to be in my massive fanfic I've been writing on. The pass, not an actual relationship. I just can't! That's almost as bad as Meredith x Orsino shipping! However, I'm sure there's an audience for it... GO FOR IT!! Even Meredith needs some loving Maybe you could even write an alternate ending to the DA2 story; or would Meredith's personality overpower Cullen, make him even more anti-mage? Could be very interesting!

Speaking of what I think are weird ships, like Nate and Sigrun. I just got it in my head last night that Cullen and Meredith might have had a thing. Did you read The Stolen Throne? Maric was in Flemeth's hut all day long ...
