Most of the games I get nowadays are from indie developers and/or Kickstarters.

I'm pretty optimistic about the future of games, but I can see how someone who prefers older RPGs would have the opposite opinion.

@aedanstarfang yea man, I'm the same way. Thats why I always wait for the release of a game before buying it. I never pre-order anymore, just because I want to see if they actually made a game, or a skinner box.

I believe most big publishers care more about money than everything. Their goal is to sell as much copies as possible.
I believe indie devs are more free do to whatever they please than blindly following trends. For me Publishers like Capcom and EA have messed up badly and therefore I became more wary of them and will not pre-order games anymore

I loved the old stuff, and I love the new stuff. I don’t really see any reasons for pessimism, b/c there is a lot of cool new things in the games. I am a slow player though, so I do not need many games to keep me happy.

Standard doom and gloom thats been around since the 00s...and 90s... and 80s...
It's always a cycle like that. Some good years, some bad years, in the end the hobby is not going anywhere its just going to continue to evolve.

It is the money that DLC can bring in. And most big companies want to milk it for all that it is worth.
Indies developers are the way to go -unless you can either get a petition going for a certain game you like. Or get enough of a group together and boycott or repeatedly hound the point home: No DLC.

Evolve was kinda fun at first but it went downhill pretty fast right from the start.

Well - I was looking forward to SpellForce 3, and it seems to be a decent game. Some people even call it a "Dragon Age Origin"-ish game (but that will probably a huge exaggeration). Anyway - I am going to buy an play it very soon, so I will see for myself.
Other titles? Hmm.. Kingdom Come Deliverance looks like a fine game to me, and some "obscure" games like Shadows: Awakening or Agony and Scorn have a little of my attention.
So - I am not that pessimistic of the future of gaming. At least not for the smaller publishers (not sure of CDPR counts as one any longer, but Cyberpunk will probably not around this year anyway).
The bigger publishers? - Yeah... I see no positive picture here. Only more money grabbing schemes, that will cripple and suffocate any fun in their games. That are games I will not buy anyway... I am really glad there are enough Indie game developers to produce games that are worth my money.
