Anyway, has Bioware ever actually confirmed that the next game will take place in a post-ME3, canonized Destroy Milky Way setting? It seems like I hear that kind of taken for granted but I wasn't sure if it was official or based on teasers/speculation. They're not going to confirm anything until they know they have their story line(s) set and there is only some technical polish left to do. All we have are hints and vague answers. RE: having unique background missions -- it would be interesting to see some data on what percentage of players generally has multiple playthroughs in order to experience all variations, or just because the game is so fun to play. My guess is that it's a fairly small percentage even for games that are specifically intended to have choices and consequences and variation.

1) What are the possibilities that Mass Effect 5 will allow save transfers from ME3? 2) Do you think BioWare would go as far as making this cross-gen? Even now, newer games are cross gen. Hogwarts Legacy was recently released for PS4 & Xbox One. Assassin's Creed: Mirage will also be cross-gen.

1) They could, but I doubt they will or actually want to - at least in a big impactful way. I think it's likely Bioware wants to start the next Mass Effect with as much of a "blank" slate as possible - less complications, technical and story debts. How well they are able to pull even that off with the variable big story arc decicions and RGB endings of the Trilogy + Andromeda remains to be seen.
2) Zero chance for a cross Gen that includes PS4 and X One S/X. Cross Gen between current gen (Xbox Series S/X + PS5) and NEXT gen consoles - maybe - really depends on how long the game development is gonna take. Don't forget ME next is in early development, most of Bioware is currently working on Dragon Age - which is their next game.

Hogwarts Legacy was recently released for PS4 & Xbox One. Assassin's Creed: Mirage will also be cross-gen. 1. Zero. BioWare isn’t using save transfers anymore. They’ll use something like the Dragon Age Keep or Mass Effect Archives instead. 2. Also zero. This is years away so by then will fully be XSX/S or PS5. Maybe with new consoles if those are out, but I think they’d still be wary since they couldn’t do all of DAI’s DLC on the past Gen.

They'll use the Mass Effect Archives, or an updated version of it, or an in-game feature, or nothing. 2) Absolutely not. Depending on how long it takes, it'll either be current gen, or cross gen with next gen, or become cross gen with next gen, but later. 2023-2024 is the last time to have any sort of reasonable hope to have games cross with last gen, and NME is at the very least, a few years away. You will need at least PS5/XboxSeries, or PC with minimal specs. Exception: cloud services that gen involved, but in those cases, you're not natively running the application.

You say they'll use the Archives, right? I remember there being several polls made in light of MELE's release. What if--and this might sound ridiculous--they decide to use the results for each poll as statistics for predetermined outcomes for ME5? For example, if majority players prefer to play male Shepard, then everyone refers to Shepard as male, even gorg players who prefer FemShep, like me.

They will not MENext canonize Male Shepard, that's actually nonsense to me. The most I think may happen is that a preset version of the next game (aka no import + no custom choices before starting campaign) may be informed by what they've tracked from players, but they don't need Archives for that - we send usage statistics (opt in/out) to EA anyway. And if they default-story Male Shepard, then their progressive sentiments sure as hell will default-story in a Female Ryder (and make sure she's mentioned).

It better be a feature within the videogame itself like simulating a Witcher 2 save in Witcher 3.
Having save imports tied to a website that can go away's a fucking awful idea and I can't believe it got approved not only once but twice already.

Judging by the stuff we know so far ME5 will be set after the trilogy and Liara is in it with a possible biger time skip. My theory on how they could continue the story is something similar to a cold war scenario. The war to end all wars has ended but that's said about a lot of wars, soon enough the politics and fighting will continue. The galaxy is in poor shape and humans, turians and krogan run the council because they led the fight against the reapers and suffered the most casualties. Asari and Salarians lost their position of power and reputation because they joined late and in case of the asari withheld prothean tech so overall mistrust and hostilities have increased among the species. Everyone is on edge. Krogan wanting to expand, the geth-quarian alliance is a new powerhouse, batarians are nice without the hegemony which makes everyone feel uncomfortable... Endless stuff for more talking and shooting.
And with a huge time skip the details of the reaper war are all a bit blurry and more of a myth by now. The reapers were either destroyed, or stuck around for a bit for repairs before vanishing or organics and synthetics understand each other better. All that can be addressed without to much altering the game or the state of the universe. So that takes care of the endings.
From the OT Liara (and maybe Grunt) would still be alive. And remember how Liara mindfuc**d Shepherd, which leaves the possibility open for a child. Could be interesting with all these expectations from being a Shepard - no pressure kid.
Anyway that's all. I just find the idea of a post reaper galaxy interesting with a lot of stories that are smaller in scale but more personal.
Any thoughts?

I like the overall idea of smaller stories and conflicts, new alliances etc. At the same time however I don't want it just to be a "we'll just (re)mix all our cards" As for time solves everyting game states... it's simply not possible - without Bioware making some canon decicions on major arcs, not just the endings. Expample "the geth aquarian alliance is a new powerhouse" - well in your game in mine, it's simply the Geth, there is no alliance with the few Quarian survivors also at even the thought of a (forced) Liara Shepard offshot. Anyway hopefully Shepard's story/arc is done and left as is. New protagonist(s) please.

With the scope and expense of videogame development, you can not account for both a narrative where the Quarians and Geth made peace and started co-habitating before becoming martyred heroes, the Rachni still exist, the Krogan no longer carry the Genophage gene-modification and have progressive leaders... and a narrative where the Quarians went extinct in the skies of Rannoch and the Geth went extinct when the Reapers did, the Rachni are dead and the Krogan are crippled by both the Genophage and conservative leadership.
This particular comparison only accounts for High EMS Destroy and even here you can see how extremely difficult it would be to develop world states that respect all of the potential outcomes without making them so similar they are all but inconsequential.
Now add Synthesis giving society eons of otherwise lost knowledge, organics and synthetics having some metaphysical connection, and even the possibility of transcending death itself.
Or society being nearly annihilated by Low EMS Destroy and accounting for all of the above becomes farcical.

With the amount of potential outcomes at the end of ME3, it's a given that quite a few things will end up being canonized.
Some people may look down on that, but I personally never really had a problem with a game canonizing some things and continuing on from a given outcome.
About the only things I feel must be importable in some way are things pertaining to Shepard themselves; background, alignment, class (if relevant), whether or not they were in a relationship, and so on...

Judging by the stuff we know so far ME5 will be set after the trilogy and Liara is in it with a possible biger time skip. If ME4 is to be set long after ME3, I want no one, including the asrai, from the trilogy to be in the game. I don't care for t'soni. She's a character who can't be trusted, I would even go as far to say she is liar. And lastly, she can be dead. She can die in ME3 with the galaxy rebuilding just as it does with high ems. I do see fights happening whether they're small or on a large scale. At least the reapers won't be around to interfere with their nonsense. I like the idea of having a krogan on the council. More on that in a moment. I don'yt agree about the salarians. If anything they might get a harsh lecture. The asorry, I mean asari, are just a pathetic species. They proved they don't care about anyone. It started with them refusing to show up at the summit. Had Bioware made the game the way they originally wanted, I doubt I would be so critical of the asari. If you're wondering what I mean, Thessia was suppose to happen before the coup. Because of this, the asari are in truoble. What do you think the backlash would be if word got out about them withholding something that could have saved x number of lives? If anything, I would present the evidence to the council, or what's left of it to decide the asari's fate. I would at the very least remove the asari councilor. And that's where a krogan would replace the asari councilor. The krogan will expand, but at a much slower rate than what they thought. The g/q alliance is a powerhouse? I would be curious how that would work. Batarians, or what's left of them, will likely do what they can to rebuild. Details are a bit blurry? Like how the details have changed, it happened so long ago. Will the next game feature some guy telling a kid a story by changing the details to keep the kid interested? If t'soni is in the game, it means a playthrough is invalid in ME3. I would rather have Grunt instead of t'soni. If Bioware were to go this route, it tells me they want to throw the franchise in the garbage. It would be the end of ME. I would not buy the game. I would throw it in the garbage if someone gave me a free copy. Before the teaser was released, I believed Shepard returning would not happen. After the teaser, and the other stuff released later, I now believe there is a chance Shepard might return. At the moment, I prefer having a new character though I would like Shepard to return. How could that happen? Simple. Here's one way. Choices is a big concern for people. What to do about this, that, and the other thing? First off, it's a story told by a guy. I bet the story told to him is far different from what he told the kid. The guy has changed his story once already. He can change it again. Look at the genophage. My preference is not to cure. If Bioware were to choose it was cured, I wouldn't complain too much. If anything what could happen is the the genophage is cured, but the results are not what was expected. Because of the lack of time to do a full test, the birth rate is only 3,4 or 5 in 1000 instead of 1 in 1000. With the geth and quarians, I prefer the geth going bye bye. If Bioware chooses peace, what could happen is in ME4, the geth slowly go back to what they were before getting the code. By the end of the game, they're back to what they were. The other thing, and could be a big issue, if Shepard were to return, is crew and squadmates. Who will return? Which squadmates will be on the roster? Legion, Thane, Mordin, will not for obvious reasons though that could change depending on the details. Sadly Zaeed(RIP Robin Sachs) would not return. Jacob won't return because he wants to be a better father than his. Kasumi would go back doing her own thing. Grunt will stay on Tuchanka to rebuild Aralakh Company. He could be a temp squadmate if there's a mission on his planet. Samara would stay on Thessia to be with her remaining child. Vega would leave to help rebuild the N program then eventually get an N designation. Wrex would be watching over Tuchanka. I would have Miranda join the roster. Jack could though she might want to stay with her students. Garrus, t'soni, tali, would return. Javik. Not sure about him. the edibot would return, but back in hologram form. I left A/K for last. They are a spectre. It wouldn't make sense to have 2 spectres on the ship. Would the council have them doing some type of spectre mission? Unless it's another detail that changed. The crew would likely remain the same. Years ago Gamble tweeted Bioware respects player choice. I never agreed with that. I still don't today. He says players choice. What is Bioware's choice? They might go with their own playthrough to put in choices that might have people frustrated. Another is with 2027 not far off, would Bioware remake the trilogy? It would be 20 years since ME1. I'm assuming the next ME game will release in 2027.

I very much doubt they would, but it would be interesting if they actually went the "indoctrination theory" route, basically making the very end of the game malleable in terms of what actually happened. The bad thing about this would obviously be that whatever endings got the boot would probably very much annoy the people who liked them. I'm biased and feel the destroy ending would probably be the easiest one to canonize... but yeah, if that happened I'd genuinely feel bad for those who picked the others and really liked their endings.
Let's hope at least they've learned their lesson about making the end of their games too diverse to possibly consolidate in the future.

Indoctrination theory? Would I complain if Bioware did that? Maybe. It was all a dream. Shepard is really a politician who takes the shape of his/her seat while daydreaming about being a hero in a videogame.

Some people may look down on that, but I personally never really had a problem with a game canonizing some things and continuing on from a given outcome. I agree. If we want mass effect to continue BioWare will have to settle on some plot points to start from even if those are broad like reapers are gone, krogan are doing ok, fate of geth, Cerberus etc. The world and outcomes are just too masive and there is no way every choice will be honored and everyone satisfied. I had my playthrough but I'm not against something else be made canon. Shepard could die at the end of me2 but in me3 he's canonically alive and well so those players don't get to play as a new character rendering their playthrough invalid. It's just not possible for a game to cover everything.

themikefestMost of my ideas depend on how much time has passed. I'm aware of BioWares original vision about thesia the coup and everything and I agree - in any future game the asari are in big trouble and likely to lose their seat to the Krogan. As for the geth-quarian. I went for peace between them with the reaper code upgrade still active. Given enough time you have an alliance of terminators and tech experts with the biggest fleet in the galaxy. No doubt they would play a bigger role in citadel politics by then. If ME4 starts right away after ME3 the ending choice would play a bigger role and something has to be made canon if they don't plan on releasing a 300 GB game. Will we find Shepherd alive, will we get a new protagonist? Both is fine by me as long as they don't resort to the indoctrination theory. It would be great at the time but nowadays would feel to much like "and then Shepard woke up. It was all a dream". On the other hand someone telling a story, maybe altering and remembering some details differently, sure why not. I just want ME to continue. No prequels, no Andromeda forced into it, just good old mass effect - Shepard optional.

If its a dream, I wouldn't accept it all being a dream. There has to be many ways that the MET, including its ending, made a substantial effect on the world, even if the world still ends up more-or-less a single setup that we can explore in the next game. Things happen that should have effect, period.
If its all real, its still weird as hell that the end of ME3 was that dreamlike, and I find it hard to believe this many factors could combine into a single(ish) future. I know Bioware games do this anyway, but for ME3 it would indeed enter farce territory. Even a 'canon Destroy' setup.
As such, I have little faith in a blatant non-IT sequel, but little interest in what is normally called IT. I don't really care for a 'it was all an indoctrination dream so wake up' in itself. Its even really weird. Its dumb. I just also get weird vibes about Indoctrination having nothing to do with Shepard's journey. They were exposed to SO much of it, and things got PRETTY warped feeling by the end. I theorycrafted things over and over, from plausible to totally off the wall ideas, but ultimately, I've come to conclusion that just as ME2 wanted to tease 'how might we stop the Reapers?' but really not know, ME3 wanted to bring in all sorts of high sci-fi (or at least Matrixy Gen X sci fi) concepts but not really know or care about following up on them. Is the ending with Starboy a dream? A half dream? Your mind being taken over? Totally legit that there's that pipe to blow up or handles to hold onto? Starboy scanning your mind and projecting itself in response? Who knows, who cares! You beat the Reapers! Somehow! Vague lore explanations so we can discuss it for years! You're a legend! Buy DLC!/Thank you!
And I still can't believe that *exactly* happened as shown. I do want the Reapers stopped, I'd be annoyed if they were not, but beyond that, I barely believe my eyes when I see the ME3 EC ending, to this day. I read datapads in the From Ashes DLC of a leader that gets compromised by the enemy, and how that's done, and I go 'yeah, London'. I remember so much of the trilogy that's about various forms of overlayed madness/illusion/virtuality over reality, and go 'yeah that's not impossible here'. I play Citadel DLC, and remember how my first time through, I did all its content at once, and just kept thinking 'this is a BS afterlife dream, its ridiculous for these NPCs and Shepard to act like this while millions on Earth die each day, even for a Bioware fluff fanservice content'. I just can't believe my eyes, I feel they're lying. I don't freaking trust giant enemy skybeams ('Conduit'), and rapidly pieced together tech (Crucible). Its all damn weird, so if a ME5 expects me to believe some boring and sidestepped 'yeah a sorta Destroy happened and now lets move on', it'd be hard to let this not taint my PERSONAL experience. I hate 'its all a dream'. Please understand me. That stuff sucks. I don't want *that*. But there was so much 'dream' of ME3 - whether Bioware had any comprehensive plan for it or not - that not following up on that, for ME, would be disconcerting. Hey, I'm all for 'Shepard woke up from something', on the other hand, but not from it just being a dream of no consequence. 'Congrats, you beat indoctrination!' would be dumb as hell, I can't sign up for 'pure IT'.
Maybe Shep could be waking up from a sleepwalking where he led everyone into (near) utter disaster, but I'm morbid like that. Revan was a secret baddie, The Last Spirit Monk was manipulated, even the Warden was a tool for various interests - screw me up about Shepard, I'm (PERSONALLY) all for that - just don't screw up Shepard's story. A fine line, so I expect the most corporate and bland result, one many here will enjoy, and will be pleasantly surprised otherwise. Or they'll ignore Shepard almost entirely, and half pretend ME3 wasn't a thing, while somehow doing a sequel setting. That's not impossible, but again, corporate and bland as well.

I just hope Shepard is dead and we are over it in ME5 or ME:Next.

If Shepard is indoctrinated, I would add Garrus as well. Depending on the playthrough, he can be with Shepard for nearly the entire trilogy except the Arrival dlc.

Well Everyone should be able to be indoctrinated bye the Reaper either intentional or un-intentional. Well How would players deal with them being indoctrinated?

At least for me. A bullet in the head solves everything.
