Since Anthem was announced at E3 2017, many people have been concerned about the prospect of this game. But we don't really have a thread where you can just come and share your general worries about Anthem, so here it is. Just to be clear, not every post needs to be 'full on doom and gloom', but posters are welcome to share their skepticism. We're not looking to get into fights with fan-boys/girls in this thread, mostly ignore them if they swing by, or direct them to their thread: The Anthem Hype Train - bsn.boards.net/thread/14134Occasionally we'll move other skeptical posts or threads in here that didn't really justify being a thread in their own right. That's it, I hope you will gain comfort, discussing your worries with other people who are legitimately concerned about Anthem.

Ever since KOTOR 2-yes, I know it wasn't Bioware made but it was a sequel to a Bioware game-I've gotten every one of their games from, Jade Empire on to MEA day 1. Now, with little to go on for Anthem, and worries about DA4-why are they talking about some kind of reboot when we don't even know what happens NEXT-should I just let my younger self of gaming just cry for the loss of possibly my favorite developer?

Until you see the products I wouldn't worry. They had one major misstep with Andromeda and that was pretty much an outside developer working under the name BioWare. I don't buy games on Day 1 regardless of who makes it and BioWare is still a developer I will generally buy in the launch window, but I want to be informed before purchasing. The only reason why I even bought Andromeda as early as I did was because of a friend showing me the game during the Origin Access early release.
The reports that I have read in the past with Dragon Age 4 is that they were always going to move on from the areas they have done in the past. Unlike Andromeda in Mass Effect it still will have elements of the lore since they aren't leaving the planet they are just moving to a new continent so they can tell new stories or showing something like the Tevinter view on the mage/templar conflict.
I am looking at Anthem as BioWare looking for something different to do with their old team of developers, for I am pretty sure there were plenty of the Mass Effect developers that wanted to do something different after being chained to Mass Effect for a decade. Especially with the "norms" that if they weren't included people would go apeshit over. Things like Romances, I am pretty sure it was David Gaider that said he doesn't like putting romances in the games, but at this point its expected.

Anthem is gonna be shit, just accept that and move on. It’s not Bioware made but EA made and it’s not fan made but “Destiny” fans made plus they need to please all the brats and punks out there instead of their loyal fans.

My expectations are the same as they were this morning. Nowhere from the discussions we've been having do we know if some of the ideas will be implemented well or badly. The Edmonton team remains highly experienced with veterans of up to 20 years service on the project. We've had one 7-minute trailer and some scuttlebutt, that's all. There's no need to panic...

OP, pretty much yep. Bioware we once loved is long dead. I don't even see DA4 makes the light of day as a SP RPG.

Only "DLC" I ever bought was the expansions for Oblivion, which were full of content, not a 2-hour mission I love Mass Effect Trilogy a thousand times more than any Elder Scrolls (even Morrowind), but I'd never buy their DLCs

Perhaps you gents are getting ahead of yourselves in your interpretation. Andromeda was clearly a broken game in every sense - especially in how it fits the Mass Effect franchise - and addressing that requires some sort of extra content to make up for its poor state at release. I would have preferred they provided us free content to paid content. Yet, paid content would still be better than no content whatsoever. By releasing no content whatsoever and declaring Andromeda dead 5 months post-release, Bioware has possibly killed off their most prestigious franchise. That for me is the end of Bioware as a developer I used to know. And if that is bitching, fine.

I'm merely remarking on how the discourse around DLC has changed so dramatically. Not so long ago, the dominant narrative was that if a game had DLC, the devs should be skewered for making you pay extra in order to get 'the full game'. By that logic, the fact that there is not and will not be any DLC for ME:A means consumers got the 'full game' at launch, and therefore ought to be happy, yes? Now, DLC is referred to as 'further support', and is expected or even demanded. A practice that was previously largely viewed as being 'anti-consumer' is now apparently pro-consumer, and that's just fascinating to me. I have to wonder how and when this cultural shift took place.

By "extra content" I didn't mean something we should pay for, did I? I mean, it was worded pretty vaguely. I just assumed that paid content was the expectation; people were mostly speculating about story campaign expansion/s featuring the Quarian Ark and the mystery of the Benefactor, and it's reasonable to assume that these would be paid content, as almost all such DLC is.

Oh, I see where you are coming from. I took the verb 'bitching' a bit too personally I guess. Well, I am not a fan of Paid DLCs either. I've never bought a single DLC for the entire Mass Effect series. And for the Dragon Age series, I've only bought 'Legacy' for DA2 as well as all DLCs for Inquisition - on a sale, of course. For Andromeda, however, I see the addition of extra content - even paid if needed be - as a means to save the franchise or at the very least appease the fans and show some commitment, too. Bioware/EA could have chosen a different fate for Andromeda other than declaring it dead 5 months post-release and perhaps even profit from it but, well, they didn't. I personally don't defend the idea of paid DLC as a whole, though, and I very rarely buy them.

My expectations are actually rising, between BioWare taking its time to obviously rework things after BF2 critique and Casey talking about DA4 as something that will have additional content planned after release (which he said what the “scary” life-service means for them). We might actually get a decent MP module with DA4, that would be very cool. And Anthem is unlikely to have blatant money press barring progression built-in.
And, judging by Andromeda, they finally beat Frostbite into submission too, so with that version ironed out, they can do super-pretty games and focus more on content/more variable assets now.
So, yeah.. as usual, BioWare is jumping out of its skin to listen and please. What more do you want?
And, I am happy to pay for decent extras, though yup, I still refuse to pay for ME DLC packs because each costs more than the full trilogy.

Thanks, BF2, you took one for the team.

Thanks, BF2, you took one for the team. Don't get me wrong, I am not upset with the delay either. I just think there is a subset of people out there that want a game designed specifically for their tastes and if it doesn't exactly match that it becomes "BioWare is dead" or other doom and gloom sayings. Its just like how people talk about Anthem and how BioWare is abandoning what they were known for, but a lot of those people haven't been pleased with what BioWare has released since Dragon Age: Origins which also was a game that pissed "real BioWare fans" off because it wasn't Baldur's Gate 3. I think Anthem is aiming for a new audience because a vocal segment of BioWare's following goes looking for things to bitch and moan about. There will never be any pleasing of them even if BioWare somehow gives them what they want because certain elements are not how they imagined they would be. Edit: Bad sentence.
