I think he should come back to BioWare but at the same time, I don't support EA anymore. If Laidlaw and him team up again, I'm sure they could make great games in a new company... someday ?

I've always pondered: what is the point to hire a great writer like DG when all they are going to do are just overhauls of older games where they are not even barely touching the story? (especially after what happened the only time they tried) He was hired to be the creative director of...something. What it was hasn't been revealed.

Gaider, Laidlaw and Flynn get together to form their own company to make video games. They hire former Bioware employees. Their first release will be 2028. I doubt it will happen, but......

Gaider is a really good writer on certain types of characters and situations. He is exceedingly overbearing, didactic, and insufferable on others.
Things he's good at: smartass and/or adorkable type characters & general world-building and lore.
Things he's not so good at: quest-lines & stories that try to present highly subtle or gray moral scenarios (mage/templar conflict especially in the books) or that are basically like those terrible YA social issue books from the 1990s, Chris Crutcher type stuff (Dorian's personal quest, assorted elements of the "racism" plotlines with elves in Origins)
So, I'd very much like him to come back and write some Alistairs and Dorians and Cassandras and such and write a bunch of stuff for the codex, but that's about it.
*Edit* fixed typo

Huh. I haven't heard word one about anything Beamdog has done. So far they've just made "Enhanced Editions" of old Infinity Engine games: Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. They are currently working on Neverwinter Nights, but no release date has been revealed yet. I for one think it's awesome that they are updating these games for modern systems without needing a laundry list of mods to run. And I'm kinda sad that whatever Gaider was working on doesn't seem out be working out. I always respected him, even if I didn't always agree with his story choices. Hope he lands on his feet. Well, they also did Siege of DragonSpear which was met with a sort of timid reception, for legit and illegitimate reasons.

An original expansion, but not really an original game that stands on its own.

I was hoping he'd be working on BG3. BG3 is going to be made by the same guys who will make the next KOTOR game... (or possibly the Half-Life 3 guys) oh right, I know those guys! The same guys who are re-creating Elder Scrolls Daggerfall in Creation Engine? man I can't wait.

Can someone explain to me why people think there was going to be a BG3? The ending of Throne of Bhaal was pretty conclusive I thought, you ether became a god or you didn't. That seems pretty final to me. Or is it like the mythical Jade Empire 2? It might happen tm

It might happen tm en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldur%27s_Gate_III:_The_Black_HoundThere were plans for it apparently however I don't think it followed the Bhaalspawn's story, would have been a sequel in name only but I think people were hoping it would have the same sort of gameplay and storytelling the first 2 games had. I think Beamdog had hinted at making a Baldur's Gate 3 or an original new game set in the Forgotten realms using the infinity engine but not sure what came of it.

At no point did I suggest that BG being a product of its time meant it needed to be "modernized". I meant that one cannot expect it to remain in a time capsule simply because it was a product of its day. The context has changed with a modern viewing, as occurs with all media.
Insofar as my thoughts go regarding what could be potentially changed in a modern interpretation of the Baldur's Gate setting...well, I'll leave that to if and when it ever becomes relevant.
