Save ourselves from what? Humans are animals. With physiology and behavior that have evolved over a billion years or so. Life for all animals is a challenge and competition. And it will never be anything else. Seek bliss from the moments and things of joy. That's all you can do. From... dissapearing and destroying itself ? As I said earlier ? I'm speaking more about us as a society and as a species. I don't doubt that life, in its many presentations, may push forward and overcome its evolutionary hurdles, it's the thought that we may actually end up destroying ourselves as a species. Sometimes that scenario seems very real to me. A very big and branched discussion. ...Which I have many thoughts about. But right now, I don't think I have quite the energy to tackle it. So I'll leave it for later. I'm supposed to be writing on things now.

Seems like you're in a lot of trouble and have your work cut out for you. Work, work, work...... But I concur, if the attention is the definitely unwanted/unpleasant/inappropriate kind....That can be a hard thing to navigate.

one of the main advantages of burgers, them being quick and simple to cook and thus being an ideal meal for busy people, the definition of fast food, is defeated by their size. Burgers are almost impossible to eat without getting sauce/mayo/ketchup all over you, veggies slipping out of the bun or the whole thing collapsing. but sliders have all the pros and none of the cons of burgers. Smol boi that is easy to eat, food of true gentlemen. why don't everybody just make sliders? Sliders>>>burgers. Delicious, fast, tidy, the embodiment of american dream.

Has anyone come up with a solution how to eat tacos without having it all spread on your shirt? I love the crunchy taco shell. I must admit that I've never considered eating tacos while wearing a business suit.

I must admit that I've never considered eating tacos while wearing a business suit. Put some shredded cheese in the bottom of the taco and then microwave for about 10-15 seconds before stuffing the taco with your other things. It just melts the cheese and just softens the bottom of the taco so it will not break in half when you eat it. Works like a charm

Especially fast food. I've solved that problem. Though I originally didn't figure it out with a burger, but a chicken salad -something. The way you stop everything going to the opposite side and probably out, is you bite alternatively slanted from the top, and the bottom, never biting over both halves of the bun at the same time. I've never looked back. That's how I eat burgers, subs and all kinds of sandwiched food.

dumbest plot twist ever: a guy is found dead, everybody thinks it's a suicide. A "brilliant" cop comes in, looks at the scene and goes, "the guy was a lefthander but he holds the gun in his right hand. So it's not a suicide, it's a MURDER! DUN DUN DUN"
look laddie, not all lefties do everything with their left hand. I'm a leftie. I hold a pen and a phone in my left hand, i throw things with my left hand and i have a southpaw stance. But i hold a spoon in my right and i hold a PC mouse in my right. If we're talking guns then the most comfortable for me is to hold it with both hands but i pull the trigger with the right one.
so the whole "leftie therefore cant kill himself with his right hand" plot is bull.
happy International Lefthanders Day yall!

If a computer creates an image of the exact position of every atom in my body, kills me and instantly reprints me in an atomic printer, is my consciousness saved? Or has my consciousnesses ceased to exist and the clone has a new consciousness that is exactly as mine, but is still another person? If so, why? Consciousness is solely created in the brain and is simply a result of this specific system, so if it is the exact same system I should be alive again, no?
Is consciousness universal? If consciousness is the result of a system, and individual to that system, a copy of that system at any given time should re-create it fully, in other words I should be able to exist as I do right now.
But, if a machine slowly converted my brain, chip by chip, into a computer version, would I slowly become a copy? Would my consciousness be eradicated and replaced by a copy that is not truly me? Ojn other words, would my now-me die and give birth to a new independent me? If that brain has been fully converted and then is immediately copied a dozen times, which one am I? Or am I all of them? Or none?

20 years, but ideally a 100 years. Knowing me I'd probably treat it like a morning alarm, yeah maybe my pod would have a "snooze" voice command. After I finally stir from my slumber "I think I need an extra five, ten years, Pod activate snooze"

Given what always happens to people in stasis pods unprotected by plot armour, the only thing worse than being put in a stasis pod is having your stasis pod transported by matter transmitter.
If it's a statist stasis pod, you're really in trouble.

Or none? First question, you would be killed and the printer would produce a corpse. I don't think we have to go very deep into this. The computer would need more than every atom. It would at least also need electrons, energy states and spins. And we don't really know how much it would need, it's probably hidden in the depths of quantum theory. And the exact timing is also crucial. But supposing the computer does also have and recreate electrons and energy levels, or lets say enough, it could maybe create something that believes it's you. Considering that you are a dynamic pattern, system, that continuously changes, is that a problem? In a sense you are constantly becoming someone else, that believes he is you, every moment. Think back a couple of years, who you were then, and you'll realize you are not that person anymore. But the pattern is still the continuous heir of all previous patterns. And these patterns existed before you were born. Long before, or you wouldn't be an as phenomenally complex and capable creature as you are. That's not done in just a few decades. So how much of you is you? Or, how much of you is before you? The Buddhists have a neat idea which cannot be entirely dismissed. It's the pattern of propagating signals that neurons firing create, that is you. If it can be put into a machine, it would be a consciousness that believed it was you. Is that "really you"? <shrugs> Does it even matter? Will there be a difference, compared to the you that wakes up every morning and believes it's the you who went to bed? I don't know. I suspect so, because there is a break in continuity. Also, if there is the slightest wrong, in the timing and synch of the waves of neuron firing, you'll be dead, or at least insane. This is actually how people have died. Gamers who played a computer game for too many days, without sleep, have had their pattern of brain activity, the waves, the dynamic organization of signals, breaking down and cease. The result is death. It has a name, something with "cortex" something. Sleep is a mystery, but it is needed for our brains to clear up and reset themselves. If we really want to become meta-philosophical, we need to at some point start to interest ourselves with the implicit framework, in which our universe, time and space, manifests itself as connected patterns. What is hidden in the next layer? Under the surface? Is the entire Universe a computer simulation? It is a "simulation", but in what kind of medium? ...God? ... And what about underneath that in turn? Next layer? aka who created God? ...and next?

I don't know. I suspect so, because there is a break in continuity. Also, if there is the slightest wrong, in the timing and synch of the waves of neuron firing, you'll be dead, or at least insane. This is actually how people have died. Gamers who played a computer game for too many days, without sleep, have had their pattern of brain activity, the waves, the dynamic organization of signals, breaking down and cease. The result is death. It has a name, something with "cortex" something. Sleep is a mystery, but it is needed for our brains to clear up and reset themselves. Its pretty interesting, lack of sleep actually leads to your brain getting overwhelmed with trash until the neurons can no longer work properly. There is literally trash in our blood, like destroyed proteins, plaque etc. and that stuff finds it way into the brain and gets stuck between neurons. The result is more and more neurons not firing properly anymore and our brain functions are compromised- hence lack of sleep makes us feel intoxicated. Now what sleep does is it expands the distance between the neurons so the stuck trash can float away and get recycled by the body. The problem is, neurons need a specific distance between each other to function properly, so you can only change the distance if you sleep - if we were awake during this cleaning process our brains would not work properly and that would be bad. That's one big part why we need to sleep, there are also mechanics to turn what we experienced into memory etc. As for consciousness, I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. The easiest way would be to simply accept that consciousness is a phenomenon produced by my brain, and as it changes also my personality changes over time, every day, every second. Done. But despite the danger of sound esoteric here, that feels so oversimplified and incomplete to me. I instinctively feel like my body is like a car, my consciousness the passenger. Like, the driving experience is mainly dependent on the car, if its an SUV or a sports car etc., but to experience the drive at all you need a passenger, which feels to me like that's consciousness. That's also why irrational questions ''haunt'' me, like why can't ''I'' experience someone else's life, what anchors the ability to experience existence to this very body, at what point can it be detached, why cannot it be transferred etc. It feels like consciousness is very different from personality created by the brain, like an external entity. Its irrational thinking for sure but I can assure you its not the result of me secretly wanting to exist forever in some form or self grandeur so I can be more than a simple mortal meat bag. Guess that kind of thinking/feeling borders on *ugh** religion?
