At 10.00am EST (March 20th) BSN passed a million posts. This was the graphic we used on Twitter to mark the million: We'd be very grateful if you could give our milestone a little love on social media, it's hard for any unofficial forum to get exposure on the internet and we'd like to be more visible and grow as we approach Anthem and Dragon Age releases. What are your reflections on BSN (official and unofficial) past and present?

This was our 1,000,000th post, by the way, have an internet cookie... Got to have monkeys running around loose, that’s how you know it’s northern Thedas. In my mind, defection wouldn’t be encouraged. Quite the opposite: perhaps there are several options to defect “too early” in the game, before proving yourself to the new-Inquisition, that lead to your immediate arrest and a Game Over. After the Exalted Council, they can’t afford to take any chances... and their intelligence organization was helmed and staffed by Leliana for years. Openly share your identity? Dead. Let them capture and interrogate one of your co-conspirators? Dead. Get too close with a loyal-to-the-cause LI, too early in the game? Dead. My dream would be a game with so many unique Game Over slides that there’s an achievement for getting them all. Makes losing part of the fun! Plus, it ups the ante during dialogue choices — when a player knows that no dialogue choices can truly screw them over, there’s less weight to heroic or “dangerous” options. I love when games remove that guardrail. Finally, much later in the game, there’s some way to earn enough trust or succeed at an important quest, that the Inquisition would be open to learning you were a spy. But even then, there’s still an option to stay with whatever group you’re spying for. Your actions would be mostly the same either way, since someone who’s spying needs to act normal. By the time you can defect, your choice mostly changes the details of the outcome. For example, maybe Solas is stopped either way, but if the Inquisition is weakened, the Inquisitor + some DA4 companions lose their lives in the process (but it prevents the Inquisition from amassing even more runaway power, so maybe the PC considers that a good thing?). Or maybe his plan succeeds, but there are different degrees of success. Or maybe Solas is being saved for DA5, and your choice has more effect on the brewing slave rebellion or Qunari-Tevinter conflict.

In our hearts, we always knew it would be a crackpot DA4 theory. And so the prophecy of the ancient snake-kings, along with the moon men allied to Tevinter, is fulfilled.

Congrats on the new BSN hitting 1 Million posts! It's almost like the Bioware fan community like having a place to call their own and discuss the games! Some sort of... forum type venue? Yeah, you'd have to be a complete moron to think closing down such a place would ever be a good idea. Ah, EA, the company that keeps it's finger on the pulse... even when the body has been shipped down the morgue. (Hey, you did ask for our reflections on BSN past. Thankfully we have saner heads in charge these days)

I am pretty sure it says "Leave your sanity here, please!" above the coat rack in BSN lobby. And then with tiny print BSN is not responsible for lost sanities that are left unattended in the coat rack.

What are your reflections on BSN (official and unofficial) past and present? I joined the original BSN on 07/20/2010 and I have fond and not-so-fond memories...(in no particular order) I remember when there was a help subforum where player and developers would assist those posting their problems and questions. I remember the Groups and in particular the ME3 Texmoder's Group; when the forum took it's final form that group disappeared. I remember the Blog section and what a treasure trove it was. I remember discussing Kaiden's personality, whether it was possible for him to have a relationship with male Shepard and if it was how it would likely manifest itself. (pre-ME3) I remember how the Talimancers would swarm when something negative was said about her. I remember Stan and Chris locking threads in their particular ways. I will never forget the Project pages, though I can't remember how many were mine. I remember the modders trying to convince Bioware to leave the Project pages up when they did the reboot. I remember the pitched battles that would erupt between femshep and maleshep supporters. I remember the polls...all the polls. I remember the motivational thread. I remember femshep voting, in fact I still have the motivational posters I created for it. I remember when the ME3 dialogue script was leaked. I remember when the docs left. I remember the night the fist negative comments appeared about ME3's ending...and I remember the madness that erupted. I was there when certain ending theories were born. I lost track of how many Twitter posts were taken out of context in threads that erupted faster than a shuttle drenched in ryncol. My reflections on the unofficial BSN Since I just arrived I'll keep it simple...now I know how the Minbari must have felt when they first discovered Babylon 4.

Since I just arrived I'll keep it simple...now I know how the Minbari must have felt when they first discovered Babylon 4. "It is the end of everything. Zathras warn, but no, no one listen to poor Zathras, no. Great forum destruction. But, great hope of peace. Need place. Place to gather, to fight to organize... to help save discussion on the side of light. So they tell me. Must have. Or it is the end of all."

I missed this thread when it was fresh. It's been a decade, maybe a bit longer, that I've hung my Internet hat and coat in the BSN. The daunting traffic during peak activity (with 20K registered contributors) could be overwhelming, but it was almost always fun. I fondly recall the years when the fans were less jaded and grumpy, and the devs were correspondingly more open and available.
When the impending doom of the oBSN was announced, I was pretty bummed. It had been a place I could visit at any time, year after year, and find engaging discussions regarding many different facets of my favorite games. I watched closely as our Leadership Team here pulled together, brain-stormed this place, and quickly made it a reality. Choosing this as my new port of call was a no-brainer. I pulled a 24+ hour farewell session when the oBSN was dying, and was online with a small group as the lights went out forever. We then merrily popped in here, where most of us had been browsing/posting simultaneously.
This community has faced some of the same challenges as the oBSN: fan disappointment leading to a jaded and fractured fan base. Where do you complain if not in the dedicated forum? How much complaining is too much? When should it be laid to rest? Can happy fans and disappointed fans coexist peacefully? The good news is that we're still here, still talking about growth; and there's always another game. We know Anthem is coming, and DA4 is hopefully to follow. Like em or hate em, we'll have a great place to debate all the details.
Thank you to our Administrator, Designer and Mods. You ladies and gents made this place happen, and continue to make it possible through your voluntary hard work. You're awesome!
Thanks also to all of the members who make this a fun place full of divergent ideas, interpretations and opinions. A big part of the fun I derive from these games comes from getting to discuss them with all of you. Down the road, I hope we can look back on another great decade of BSN.
