From the EA investor Prepared Remarks, May 8th. files.shareholder.com/downloads/ERTS/6237188595x0x979747/4A90989B-EA4D-4CE5-905C-7361784571BB/Q4_FY18_Prepared_Remarks_-_Final.pdf"This year, we also plan to deliver two massive new games – our next Battlefield title, and our new IP, Anthem. Both of these experiences are introducing new dynamics that begin to change the way fans interact with their games, and with each other. ""Later in the fiscal year, we will launch our stunning and ambitious new IP, Anthem. Every dimension of this game will offer something entirely new for a wide audience of players – from a new universe with unique stories that BioWare is creating, to the cooperative gameplay, to the epic and beautiful environment that constantly evolves around players. Anthem is a fundamentally social experience, and we will open new ways for fans to join the community and play early, enabling us to shape and refine the game with their input and feedback. We’re deeply excited to launch this brand new franchise, and equally excited to work with our players to make Anthem a game they can’t wait to play and share with their friends for years to come.""Creativity is the central strand of everything we do at EA. Every experience begins with creating something new and unexpected. That’s why you’ll see new dynamics in gameplay, new social layers, and new ways to interact with the worlds we create in games like Anthem..."Andrew Wilson, CEO "As a result of the timing of launches, we expect this year [Fiscal Year 2018/19] to be more back-end loaded than fiscal 2018. We’re excited about how both Anthem and Battlefield are shaping up and we look forward to sharing more with you about them soon."Blake Jorgensen, COO/CFO [From Gamespot]: "During a Q&A with analysts today, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said Anthem will launch during the last month of EA's fiscal year, which means March 2019. Previously, all we knew was that the game was due out in early 2019."

I'm game. May have to schedule my activities but apart from that yes, count me in. Whatever it is they're doing. Still if they intend to move both Battlefield and Anthem in a similar (not same, not copy - similar) direction (how players socialise) the next Battlefield may give us some hints about some parts of Anthem.

Pretty much what I would expect from Andrew Wilson talking to EA's investors and it seems to be a lot of marketing for investors. The story comment again is what I was expecting, but I am pretty sure there are going to be people that will find fault or twist what is being said to have some level of misdirection.
I enjoyed the story content of The Old Republic and thought BioWare did a good job at release with that except for the lack of end game content. Anthem is seemingly to be the same approach, but going for the new cash cow in the looter-shooter instead of MMOs.
Edit: Just to note, I am probably going to be paying more attention to the investor's call which should have a transcript posted in a day or two. I find there is more interesting information in those most of the time instead of just prepared statements. In the last one we found out at least in investor speak they were okay with how Andromeda did and talking about how they consider the games performance was to be "very well" and that consider player engagement to be "really strong".

I feel like they are trying really hard to sell a game that I just don't have any interest in. I also am torn on whether or not I really want the game to be a success or not. Sure I know the looming threat of no more Dragon Age if this fails-but if that wasn't a thing I don't think I'd even care even a little either way. It's just not my cup of tea!
They should have waited to do this experimental stick when they had a couple successful games bankrolling them already. Putting all their eggs in one basket at this point feels like their real-life version of Mass Effect 2's suicide mission.

They should have waited to do this experimental stick when they had a couple successful games bankrolling them already. Putting all their eggs in one basket at this point feels like their real-life version of Mass Effect 2's suicide mission. What makes you think the recent games were not successful? This game started right after Mass Effect 3 and the industry speculation was that it was BioWare's most successful selling game at 6 million copies sold and Inquisition has BioWare's best launch ever. Just because people on Reddit or YouTube are claiming that Andromeda {edit} failed {/edit} doesn't mean it was a disaster either, it might not have met that threshold that was mentioned elsewhere doesn't mean it wasn't successful for EA either. They aren't try any harder then any other BioWare release, notice how they were also doing the same level of sell for Battlefield as well and that game doesn't need to have the upsale either. Its just how it works to try and get people interested in EA's stocks to increase stock prices so they can make everyone more money.

"to the epic and beautiful environment that constantly evolves around players." What does that even mean? An evolving environment? Unless there is some sort of procedural generation involved, I call bs.
"we will open new ways for fans to join the community and play early, enabling us to shape and refine the game with their input and feedback." They're going to release with loads of bugs. Again. (Hopefully not. People work hard on making these games. Sad that this is the first thought that popped into my head when I saw this, though.)
"Creativity is the central strand of everything we do at EA. Every experience begins with creating something new and unexpected." Like the way MEA copied so much of the OT? (Again, first thought. Not looking to start a fight.)
Only thing to take seriously from this is the release timeframe. Everything else is just salesmanship.

Based on prior comments from Jonathan Warner about a beta, I'm reading the 'early access' comments as just that. Not "EA/Origin Access" and not an 'Unfinished' Early Access game to be launched in March and finished 'mañana"... Hope I'm right.

Hm, I just read a lot of words that say very little, likely just meant to check some investor bullshit bingo boxes.
However, "fundamentally social experience"... unless the word "fundamentally" had its meaning changed when I wasn't looking, this does not bode well for any solo play, other than playing with a party of one instead of four.
I'm still on the "wait and see at EAPlay" train.

Bunch of useless corporate speech, it can be summed up to: "We aim for an early 2019 release". Anything else is just empty words.

It's always been advertised as a co-operative experience that you can solo. I understand that. I have seen many on here hoping they have something for the SP aside from co-op. They may, but it sounds like the core and soul of the game will be co-op and that typically means the SP portion feel tacked on and shallow compared to co-op. Time will tell.

Because 'Single-Player' is expected to be just playing the game 'without friends', it should be entirely the opposite of 'tacked on' because it's still playing the same game. How the absence of other players impacts difficulty, mechanics and/or plotting remains to be seen.

It's always been advertised as a co-operative experience that you can solo. And there's clearly still a demand for solo-only experience that isn't just tacked-on. Anthem is looking less and less likely to provide that. For myself, when I want a co-operative social experience, I go to tabletop games.

Well, nothing about RPG, stories and characters. Ea's current game creative formula is live-service shooters. Yep, players will be excited to play the same game for years to come. As to ".. new ways to interact with the worlds we create in games like Anthem...", I take it he means microtransactions. It appears to be a winning formula, if Ubisoft has anything to say about it ( more ) To me it simply means waiting six or so months and then make a decision. Any season pass is an automatic "NEXT!". As to the corp speak, I expected nothing less.

We had this from Casey not long ago: "It’s in that spirit that we are working through production on Anthem–a game designed to create a whole new world of story and character that you can experience with friends in an ongoing series of adventures. It will be unlike anything you’ve played, but if we do it right, it will feel very distinctly BioWare."blog.bioware.com/2018/04/16/studio-update-from-casey-hudson/
