GDPR = User Data protection will enter into effect May 25, 2018. It is a EU wide agreement.
Companies that fail to achieve GDPR compliance before the deadline will be subject to stiff penalties and fines. This includes gaming companies. This also effect external EU companies that allow EU citizens to access their site(s) / games.
For example:
"Gravity Interactive, the maker of Ragnarok and Dragon Saga games, is taking a different approach - it will block Europeans from accessing its games. "
"Uber Entertainment, which makes online games, will shut down its Super Monday Night Combat game on May 23 because of GDPR"
Let's take our very own BSN. Will it be affected? Will EA be affected? Facebook? Twitter? The latter two certainly collects and sell your data.

Let's take our very own BSN. Will it be affected? Hmmm. Data protection arrangements will be under ProBoards' Privacy policy: www.proboards.com/privacyAs far as personal data is concerned, and given that members are ostensibly anonymous (unless they choose otherwise), there are only two pieces of 'personal' data I can see: - One is your e-mail address which moderators can see if they looked them up, but which we rarely use (very occasionally a ban notification copy is sent to the e-mail address).
- The other is your site password which moderators have no access to.
Members can freely see, update or delete their own information. Any other thoughts from GDPR experts?

Well, A quick scan using Google showed many articles about US companies being affected. Non EU countries need to understand that Privacy is to the Europeans as the right to bear arms defines US democracy. Personal data was used in past proletarian regimes to the detriment of heir citizens, which I thing is the reason its taken so seriously. Interesting that the US Constitution does not have the word Privacy.
One little tidbit about the GDPR Act is that consumers have the right to be forgotten and to take their data with them. Unfortunately many a company designed their consumer databases in such a way that makes it very difficult to delete or to update the design to meet ther GDPR requirements.
For gaming companies, the constant online requirements may be a tiny problem...... especially in the mobile market.
So, yes, we need a "GDPR expert" to help us sort it out.

I wonder if this is why there have been recent issues in MP, connecting to hosts or staying connected to hosts (at least on PC)?
I was blaming it on changes made in the latest Win10 major update … perhaps additional changes to address the CPU security issues …
Maybe so, but maybe also … or mostly … due to issues addressing GDPR.
I don't know any of this, just speculating.

I don't know any of this, just speculating. I doubt it, I think the Windows 10 update is more likely. The GDPR is more about how the data they have about you is controlled. The big thing is now you can tell a company to forget you and they will remove all traces of information they have about you while also having more transparency about privacy settings and what data they actually have. Most places have been slowing rolling out implementation for a bit now because they want to make sure its working by the implementation date is my guess.

All you need to do is probably update your ToS and have the European consumer consent to personal data stored for the business you're doing with them.

I just got my first GDPR related email from an eMagazine I got grandfathered into (because the eMagazine I really wanted went out of business). It says I have to opt-in or I'll stop getting their spam. YAY EU!
The point being that some global companies may decide to apply GDPR everywhere (I'm in the US). It's easier than segmenting the customer base into who is and who is not covered by GDPR.

Razer is updating their ToS and Synapse software, the email was interesting in verbiage - I think they are going away from online-by-default, and that I approve of.
As a US citizen, I am mildly excited by this legislation and hope it reaches further.

I am mildly excited by this legislation. In the UK, GDPR is awesome. Companies are falling over themselves getting me to confirm they can talk to me, and I'm just going nope, nope, nope... Of course, games where people pay money to receive something, an effective contract is in place, it just needs to be defined and regulated.

It's awesome until some company decides that it's more cost-effective for them to block your access to their service. Only time will tell if the tradeoff is worth it, though, as the law doesn't formally go in effect until next week.

That's their loss, if they block you. Websites want the max number of users visiting their site. In effect, US websites blocking the EU is not a smart idea, imo.

And what if the companies or individuals behind these websites can't afford the legal fees and infrastructure changes required to comply with the GDPR? In that case, their only realistic options are to either block EU IP addresses from accessing their services, or completely withdraw from the European market (if applicable) since they can't just sit there and hope nobody notices that they're breaking the law.

I can't afford a yacht either...I learned to live without it. "
Besides, it's an industry self-inflicted wound... look at greedy Google and the Cambridge Analytica Scandal. Google is now trying to "fix" (farcical attempt. imo) their loosy-goosy (non-existent, imo) privacy controls.

If you want to have an international business, with a website, then tough tittie said the kittie, the milk's still good - just gotta play by reasonable rules (which GDPR is IMO). Reading your link, this affects small software developers more than most, and I understand that can be an issue for some. Not for me, but...

It’s a cost of doing business on the web. I’d bet that any little guys freaking out about GDPR compliance were already out of compliance with some region somewhere. Which does point out the fact that enforcement is going to focus on the big scores and deep pockets. Mom & Pop web site is going to be pretty low priority, unless a disgruntled customer or employee narcs on them.

Already Google, Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook are facing complaints that they are breaking the GDPR rules.
