Started watching a short animated show called Primal. It is surprisingly well done so far. Premise is a caveman and a dinosaur become friends after shared tragedy. It's atmospheric, a bit gory, and the story is told without anyone speaking. It's rather funny at times too, my style of humour. It's very stylized, so you'll know in the first 5 minutes if you'd like it or not. Created by Genndy Tartakovsky.

Finished the first season of Dexter. I'd forgotten how adorable Debra is, and just how much more depth Rita and Laguerda have compared to the books. And Doakes, and Harry Morgan, and Angel, and...
It's insane how many of these older shows are just chock-full people you can't help but like, even the assholes. After this season and my Battlestar Galactica, Walking Dead and Lost binges these past few months, I'm seriously starting to wonder what the hell has happened to character writing since 2014-2015.

Identity politics happened... I don't feel like identity politics is even enough to account for this shift. Maybe it's all the modern cynicism. It's like writers have collectively decided that the world is just populated by flat and unlikable people, and are afraid that we'll all be confused if they put the work in to make secondary and tertiary characters anything more than stereotypes or counter-stereotypes written to serve a single obvious purpose. On another note, I'm seriously impressed with Christina Robinson's acting as a child. Cody is played to typical child-actor caliber, but Astor actually feels like a real little girl with an internal life of her own, which isn't something you see every day on television. Never noticed that before. It's no wonder Cody kind of got lost in the mix after a few seasons, he was overshadowed by everyone else in every scene he was in.

Got that phase of; I'm off games for a while. So I've been binge watching on / off. I dropped the modern Hawaii Five O completely after two eps of S1. Formula's typical. I don't see anything new. The two bickering MCs doesn't gel with my end. Carnival Row has potential but too much cramming, too little exposition in some aspects and a speedo S1 plot with just 8 eps. Covert Affairs is good. I like the development of the MC over the seasons. Absentia. I like Stana Katic in Castle. She took the lead in this series as well but the plot just isn't griping. I dropped it. Damages. Glenn Close. Whoooooeeeee. Enough said. House. I'm trippy on this one. I can't take House in a big dose so I go back to this now and then. Finished The Shield, 2002 crime drama. I like this take on corrupt police officers. Good cast, story and chars. Now on S2 of The Good Wife. Very enjoyable.

Finished S3 of The Good Wife. Everything is chugging pretty strong and good. I was looking forward to S4 because S3 ended with a small cliffhanger regards Kalinda but then, bummer, the channel does not have S4!!! wtf. It has S5 and no S6 and S7. Shucks. What a horrible break. So I'm left hanging without learning the development in S4. I hate that so I went searching to see what happened after. There're just briefs, no details of what went on. Annoyed, I just skipped around S5 which has some strong highlights. I read that Kalinda was dropped in mid S6 and the downslide became more evident, dying to an unsatisfactory ending. I don't get why the Kalinda char was dropped because she had a strong tie to Alicia, the MC. Their friendship is one of the highlights of the story. Some fans shipped them together so I'm glad the writers / producers did not try to do any such thing but wrote the trials and tribulations of friendship for the two instead. It makes it a better stronger story. Their bond is strengthened because of what they went through. Kalinda should have remained so she could play a key role in pulling Alicia back to herself. Anyway, S1 - S3 is a good watch. S4, no idea. S6 - 7 is reviewed as going downhill. That's pretty typical for a tv series if the story isn't planned well in advance and the writers were flying by the seat of their pants or their execution went haywire in the last half stretch. Not many tv series ever managed to stay gold from beginning to end. There're exceptions of course. Jumped onto the Nightshift wagon. Looks promising. I didn't watch any of the medical series back in the 90s; ER, Chicago Hope, General Hospital. No time for tv! I'm sure I missed several great medical dramas. I didn't miss M*A*S*H though.

Baseball, baseball, baseball, baseball, baseball is pretty much all I have been watching and a new series called SAS Australia. It's about celebrities doing an approximation of some SAS training and is surprisingly intriguing to watch. Knowing the celebrities and there past exploits/successes/failures/achievements in their lives makes it interesting to see if those help. Not surprisingly the celebrity "PR" person lasted 6 hrs on the first day after stating how tough she is and how she wanted to show that to her children. She then tried to spin it and blame another contestant who is also/was one of her clients because they were drawn to punch the hell out of each other. She was hopeless, the other woman is an ex-Iron Woman athlete and so the PR woman tried to say she deliberately didn't hit the Iron Woman because they were friends and she didn't think it was right. Hey lady the video footage is right there, you threw down you were just hopeless!!!!! Did I just write that much about this show????? It is surprisingly engaging from a voyeuristic I suppose perspective.

I'm in that weird in-between spot where I just finished a series but can't decide on what I want to watch next in terms of TV shows.
Been watching a tonne of Total War: Warhammer 2 streams to fill the void. Also looked for some Baldur's Gate 3 streams, can't justify spending $80CAD on a game right now but I've been curious about it. Was originally uninterested since it was turn-based instead of RTwP but it's won me over in spite.

Halloween has gotten me in the mood for spooky stuff. Went through the first four episodes of The Outsider like a hot knife through butter. Was actually really impressed, you basically never get Stephen King adaptions this high-quality. The acting and atmosphere are top-notch, the characters are all really cool and the mystery gets more intriguing all the time. Highly recommended. Baldur's Gate 3 is the first game I've considered buying a modern gaming PC to get my hands on in some time, and I think I might someday if it doesn't come to the PS5. Realizing that Half-Orc characters weren't supported killed my immediate interest though. And I hope for Wizards of the Coast's sake that the choice to remove them has nothing to do with the outrage over the summer about Orcs and Half-Orcs supposedly being fantasy's punching bags, representing some kind of inane outlet for discrimination against black people.

Baldur's Gate 3 is the first game I've considered buying a modern gaming PC to get my hands on in some time, and I think I might someday if it doesn't come to the PS5. I watched 3 or 4 different streams, about an hour into each one. Was surprised by how much variety each different playthrough had. Entire fights avoided by dialogue choices/rolls, a useful pet gained by one that no one else got, etc. The replayability is definitely there.
Loving the graphics, lighting, and atmosphere as well; the streamer I settled on just made it to one of my favourite zones in Forgotten Realms and it looks absolutely amazing.
I still think combat (and the legacy of the series) would be better served with Real Time w/Pause but with everything else looking good/great I can live without.
The story premise is interesting, albeit I can see the same Baldur's Gate formula working in the background. Not entirely a bad thing though I suppose.

Bringing it back to TV (which includes streaming services, right?), I watched the new Borat movie on Amazon Prime yesterday. Ok, if you liked the first one with it's shameless bad-taste and very dark humor and cringe, you'll very likely enjoy this one as well. Yes, it is a little bit more charged politically but there was just no avoiding that these days, I think. Also, you gotta keep in mind that it's a comedy movie production and by no means a documentary. I don't know how much of it is real and how much is staged bu ultimately, if you just take the comedy side of it, it doesn't matter that much. My favorite part was the ending (not the infamous Giuliani scene but the very last art that comes after). Without spoiling anything, suffice it to say that there is quite the plot twist. I did not think it was possible t even closely repeat the stunt that was the first Borat movie but they actually did it ... and in style (or maybe rather not so much style but it's niiiiice ).

The acting and atmosphere are top-notch, the characters are all really cool and the mystery gets more intriguing all the time. Highly recommended. Have you finished it? BF and I watched the first few episodes months ago but never got to finish it because Sky pulled the show without warning to re-release it later one episode at a time with the German audio and we cancelled the subscription. Was slightly pissed off. Then again we didn't really enjoy it all that much after the first episode. Pacing was WAY too slow. And what was up with it being so dark?! I think they did it on purpose, but sometimes you couldn't make out a thing. I liked the atmosphere but overall we started getting bored with it. I don't know how far we got. 4 or 5 episodes? Acting was good but we were wondering what they were going to do with the remaining episodes since the question what this thing is seemed to get answered fairly early on. Would like to hear your final verdict. Me, I've resumed watching King Of Queens. S4 right now. Good show to watch when you're sleepy and not looking at the screen half the time. Feels like there hasn't been a good sitcom in ten years, except Brooklyn 99. I miss the humor of the late 90s to about 2010...

Dropped into the Good Fight which is a sequel to Good Wife. Julianna Margulies declined to appear as an occasional guest due to salary disagreement (she has cause and I've to say I agree) so Alicia Florrick only gets mentioned now and then. Which is a pity because some colourful characters Alicia represented or clashed with in the Good Wife made their way through the turn stiles. Once again, the tv series has a good start but I definitely missed the old cast and MC; I'd love to know how Alicia and her family are faring. I also watch S1 - S3 of Bosche, a cop series. It isn't bad. Because I came to know about Lance Reddick as Sylens in HZD, I kept expecting him to pull a Sylens. And Aloy to turn up somewhere. One thing in common of these two tv series? Child actors who did their growing up on the screen. Budding teens who turned into young adults through the seasons.

Also my daughter wanted to watch it and it is her first foray into Sci Fi so hoping to foster that, Sooooooo can't wait for The Expanse in December.

With good SF and the good ones are those with solid story and characters that leave the viewers to ponder over the mysteries, the questions. Back when I was very young, the SF series that left a great impression on me was Star Trek The Old Series. I think I was the only one of my class to watch SF. After a particularly interesting ep, I found one of my friends had watched the ep. We were too young to grasp the concept of the argument Kirk had with the A.I. to convince it that its policies were wrong but in some ways, I understood what he was trying to do. What he was arguing for. I tried to discuss it with her but she didn't understand the story and wasn't interested in discussing. *shrug* Nevertheless, I went on watching SF.

Found another interesting tv series. It's called Lore. It's a cross between documentary and drama to tell horror stories and their origins. The first episode explore science vs superstition in the 1800s when it was believed consumption / TB could be stopped by making sure the dead were truly dead. That the first existence of vampires and the naming of such a monster began in America and how it started. Fascinating.

The Night Shift. It's not fulfilling, satisfactory..I can't find a word for it. Too fast paced without showing development. Take the Kalinda and Alicia friendship in the Good Wife. The friendship is built slowly over the seasons, showing how Kalinda eventually became best gal with Alicia by providing the help and support she needed in work and her life. Alicia tried to return the favour but Kalinda is very much a close book because of her past but still, they have that friendship and it's clear Alicia will do everything she can to help Kalinda should she ever needs it. The psychiatrist and the ER doc are in the same position except that it's too fast and without meat. All their interactions are within work, the quick bumper car meetings around the ER and there they are in a few eps; pals. So the "clash" is very shallow; Oh you should have told me you were sleeping with my ex. I feel so stupid now trying to intro you to somebody. Oh sorry I want to be best friends with you which is why I didn't say anything but anyway, it's not serious.

I've yet to see it and I dunno if I could watch a show focusing on Angel, he's so dull and depressing. I can see where the "broody vampire" type from Twilight and future vampire shows come from, there's at least one in each show. And a werewolf.
A friend told me it's just as good though, same sort of humour etc.

Angel grows a lot, he's definitely not the same character he is in Buffy.
That being said, the rest of the cast is really the selling point. There is some of the best character development I've seen onscreen there. Wesley, by the end of the show, it's unbelievable who he is. Becomes my second favourite buffyverse character. Cordy changes dramatically, you still see the bitchy cheerleader in there but she's matured and has survived a lot. There's another female character that's introduced later that is amazing. She has some changes that I don't want to spoil but I don't want to undersell either and she nails em. She acts phenomenally in some really brutal scenes.
Faith also makes some appearances and has some of her best work in Angel. Eliza Dushku the actress, really gets to shine there. The show is about people fighting the endless fight for redemption. Faith gets to grow a lot in that soil. If you like Faith it's a compelling reason to watch.
If you like Spike, and I personally love him, he shows up too. And the first time he does is fucking hilarious.
