I want to do a fanfic based around a male templar lead that isn't villainous and/or have PTSD like Cullen. We haven't gotten that and I so want it. He'll be a hardass though because he should be.
And I love Meredith's armor. The hood and tiara. I'd like to see that on a male Knight Commander too. Badass.

Every Mage and Templar are damaged there, no exception. And the lyrium... So: do you want a healthy Templar? Destroy the prison-Circles, and restrain the lyrium!

I think templars are nerfed as hell. They're supposed to have the ability to nullify offensive spells, but the best they can do ingame is to cancel boosts.

I see the templars and mages have a lot in common. For me the chantry is like a sect. The chantry take children away (a lot of unwanted children are sent away to the chantry even if not mage, see Alsitair for example), it cut these children from their family and endoctrinated them (both mages and templars) with very... conservativ ideas. After that for the templars when they are grown up enough to beginn to think by themself they are drugged and fed with lyrium in order to be chained to the order. They cannot marry and have children whithout the permission of the order. In the end you have fearful mages (tranquil solution, harrowing etc...) and frustated templars (not all templar wanted this life). The better way for the chantry to control eveyone is to turn all this people against each other. I remember this templar in DAO which succomb to a desir demon because he was sad with his life as a templar and only wanted a wife and children. The organization templars/ mages as it was befor Anders blew up the chantry in Kirkwall was a time bomber in my opinion. Anders was the one who light the fuse.

Of course, both are the victims of the system – but the Templars even aggressors as well (this also comes from the system's nature).

Yes templars can be aggressors because they are the one with a little of power. As you said it comes from the system's nature. But for me templars are not better or worse than mages. They both are only human beings. There are good and bad people in both factions. It is really sad because they should have both (templars and mages) fight alongside against the Chantry and not fight against one another. We will see what the new order will be in the future.

There is little attention brought to the fact that templars are basically slaves. The Chantry holds the lyrium supply and the templars need it in order to avoid going insane. For most of them, leaving isn't an option.

Should we revive this thread and move it over to the DA4 forum?
I was thinking earlier whether or not that Templars will they even return as a playable class in DA4? Dorian tells us that Templars in Tevinter don't use lyrium (since the mages have all called dibbs) and they are effectively run of the mill soldiers. What does that mean for the role of Templars going forward into the next game then?
