Kind of like the "Battle Royale" thread, but without the clickbait title , from the perspective of traditional story-driven SP games versus Anthem. E3 showcased or teased some pretty amazing SP games, particularly PlayStation exclusives. EA and Bethesda's shifts to add online-first gaming to their franchises seemed to suggest that that was the way all games were going, but the uptick in SP games comes as a pleasant surprise. Which ones caught your attention and your hype? How do you think Anthem will fair against these games? Will the traditional Bioware audience be split by this? For me, the ones that I'm most interested in are: - Ghost of Tsushima -- looks like a Witcher-style game, but as a samurai set in historical Japan
- The Last of Us 2 -- holy shit, they made huge improvements in combat and graphics, looks stunning!
- Death Stranding -- WTF? I have no idea what that game is about, but it looks cool af.
And since it will come up, I didn't list Cyperpunk 2077 because I'm still in wait-and-see mode. The teaser looks pretty good, no complaints there, but need more info on gameplay and story.
Likewise, TESVI is also a wait-and-see for me, since all we saw was a drone shot of some landscape. The scope of the landscape is breathtaking, but more details please.

from a "sure imminent thing"
Spiderman.
Resident Evil 2 remake.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
Devil May Cry 5. (kinda as I didn't like the art style and more realistic graphics)
Kingdom Hearts 3.
Cyberpunk 2077.

E3 this year is disappointing to me. None of the games has got me interested in playing it except Kingdom Hearts which is only because I'm a big fan of it lol. The Last of Us II and Ghost of Tsushima is stunning though.

Metro Exodus was the big one. Then again, I have been following it since it was announced and I am a huge fan of the original game, Metro 2033. Dying Light 2 caught my eye as well, thanks to thoroughly enjoying the first game. It was nice to see that its not going to be an exact copy and paste of the original, as it adds in dialogue options and choices that can alter the environment. I also liked how it is set in a unique 'modern dark ages' setting after the zombies rose up. I'm eager to see more. Doom Eternal, well... its Doom The Doomguy looks like he's gone back to his classic appearance, and on top of the ripping and tearing, I am anticipating the soundtrack. Mick Gordon did the score for the 2016 game and it was glorious. If he returns, not just the game will be a day one purchase, the soundtrack will be as well. As far as how these will compare with Anthem, its anyone's guess. While I won't go out of my way to experience it, Anthem has caught my attention with this E3, as before I had given it the cold shoulder. It looks better than I anticipated.

Apart from the ones you listed, these are big ones that caught my eye...
Doom: Eternal - Given that ID's also releasing Rage 2, I was surprised to see it. As a huge Doom fan I can't wait for this one. Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - Loved Origins, so this a definite buy for me. The new RPG elements are just icing on the cake here. Shadow of the Tomb Raider - The reboot has been great so far, and this is looking to be just as good. Beyond Good & Evil 2 - I just say forego the game, and just let their AMAZING trailer guys make a feature-length movie outta this. Control - By Remedy. Surprised! Came outta nowhere and looks fantastic. Starfield - Finally confirmed, and we know Beth's been working on it for years and is in a playable state. Maybe a late 2019 release...? Like Death Stranding, I have no idea what it's about, but I'm irrationally hyped anyway! Cyberpunk 2077 - It's CDPR, so...

None really...? None that got me hyped anyway unless you count Starfield.
Are we now so desperate that we consider ANY SP game a victory? I'm seriously confused by this thread.
Was anybody ever really worried SP games were dying out??
If I judge E3 by the number of upcoming RPGs shown then things look bleak. But then again RPGs aren't really mainstream so that's fine.
As for how many games caught my attention? Few, like every E3. I think last year was worse.
I buy maybe 3 new major releases every year. I've mostly been catching up with stuff from the past few years. Lots of small indie titles.
I spent half of last year with FO4 and little else... Spent the first 5 months of this year continuing to play FO4. *cough *
Might be Farcry 5 was the only recent release I bought this year. O.o

Completely missed this in the E3 hype, maybe because already announced, but agree it’s in my story-driven radar as well. Missed this one too, will check it out. I’m wait and see on this one. Chances seem low that it will be SP, particularly with Fallout 76 testing the waters.

Well... you'll be happy to hear this then. arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/06/bethesda-at-e3-elder-scrolls-vi-starfield-confirmed-for-next-generation/Bethesda Director Todd Howard closed the conference with Bethesda's two-part tease of future games. The first, Starfield, was described as "a brand-new, next-generation, single-player game. This one is in an all-new epic franchise. Our first wholly original franchise in 25 years."

O.o Not sure where you get desperate from anything in this thread. My point is that both in terms of new IP and story driven, there’s lots of good news out of E3. Last three years I only had maybe one story-driven new IP each year that caught my attention. This year is an uptick, though admittedly very subjective. While I wasn’t worried, the gamer groupthink certainly got its panties in a wad over the shuttering of Visceral and EA saying nobody wants SP anymore. Did you miss all that?

That helps, but they’re also calling F76 SP capable, so we’ll have to see what the above really means.

Haven't really seen enough of Anthem's SP identity to form a strong opinion or compare it to anything.
It sounds like the Destiny style of delivery, BW says it isn't. Have to wait and see.

I didn't miss that drama but EA being corporate one track mind assholes doesn't equate the whole industry. In fact if big publishers decide to ditch singleplayer there's an opportunity for others to fill that gap again. And they will. CDPR sure must feel lucky right now the current climate is playing right into their hands. I think it's highly subjective how interesting E3's presentations are each year. I can't find anything particularly noteworthy this year. A bit of everything. Same as always? Do we have actual numbers on how many SP games are presented each year? Is there even a decline? A rise in MP titles probably but that doesn't mean SP content is in decline.

The problem is the articles, former employee accounts of working there, and their response to the accusations against them. Have removed my trust in them to be a good place to work that treats their employees well and that is more important to me as getting free stuff.

I thought the conference overall was meh this year. Nothing really caught my eye other than TLoU2 and Captain Spirit of course. I like Dontnod games.

While I wasn’t worried, the gamer groupthink certainly got its panties in a wad over the shuttering of Visceral and EA saying nobody wants SP anymore. Did you miss all that? According to reports and EA statements to investors which I saw in those reports. Visceral closing had nothing to do with single-player focus, but more about the studio itself and how it was mismanaging time and money. I found the comment and they never said "nobody wants", they said "they aren't as popular" which is a big distinction. It just means like any other trend they are looking for what people are buying and spending the most money on. With single-player games my friends and I can buy a single copy and share it over a month and all experience the complete game, but a game with multiplayer incorporated we will generally all buy our own copy so we can play together or with other friends. I think that is the logic they were using, but of course presented in a dumb way.

AC: Odyssey, Anthem, Spider Man, Crackdown 3, Starfield, TES VI, TLOU 2, have me interested.
Also, for some weird reason I'm also interested in Tunic. I can't tell if its because of the Zelda vibe I got from it, or the music, but I want to play it.
