Kind of like the "Battle Royale" thread, but without the clickbait title , from the perspective of traditional story-driven SP games versus Anthem. E3 showcased or teased some pretty amazing SP games, particularly PlayStation exclusives. EA and Bethesda's shifts to add online-first gaming to their franchises seemed to suggest that that was the way all games were going, but the uptick in SP games comes as a pleasant surprise. Which ones caught your attention and your hype? How do you think Anthem will fair against these games? Will the traditional Bioware audience be split by this? For me, the ones that I'm most interested in are: - Ghost of Tsushima -- looks like a Witcher-style game, but as a samurai set in historical Japan
- The Last of Us 2 -- holy shit, they made huge improvements in combat and graphics, looks stunning!
- Death Stranding -- WTF? I have no idea what that game is about, but it looks cool af.
And since it will come up, I didn't list Cyperpunk 2077 because I'm still in wait-and-see mode. The teaser looks pretty good, no complaints there, but need more info on gameplay and story.
Likewise, TESVI is also a wait-and-see for me, since all we saw was a drone shot of some landscape. The scope of the landscape is breathtaking, but more details please.
Ghost of Tsusima looks promising...hadn't heard of that so thanks. Love Japanese history/mythology so that's a big bonus for me. TLOU2 looks incredible...been (im)patiently waiting for that since I played the first game. Death Stranding probably not my thing. Hideo is weird for the sake of being weird and as a result his storytelling is pretty incoherent. Though if you liked MGSV's story you may be into it. I need to see gameplay before I know on that one. Just be prepared for hour long cutscenes. Definitely down with CP2077 but I don't see that coming for another 2-2.5 years given the lack of gameplay. Edit: Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks tasty too.

Code Vein: Single player dark souls type of game with optional co-op. Narrative driven with cool vampires/edge lords.
Devil May Cry 5: Hope trish/gloria is playable.
Granblue Fantasy: Project Re:Link -Not shown but looks sick as hell.
Nioh 2: Loved the first and in this new it seems you can change into an oni!
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice/GOT: Both look great.
Resident Evil 2: Looks awesome and I would not be shocked if this game broke monster hunter world sales records for capcom.

My takeaway from E3 is: - Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Well, duh.
- Yakuza 0 on PC for $15?! - Take my money!
- Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition - If it's even half as good as Berseria (and they say it's better), it'll be worth it.
- Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - The BioWare game Bioware won't give me? Sold!
- Kingdom Hearts III - Haven't played the other ones but I'm willing to give this one a try.
- Babylon's Fall - Very curious about Platinum's new IP.
- Ghost of Tsushima - The AC game Ubisoft won't give me, taking the role of a samurai in Feudal Japan. Give me a release date already!
- Spider-Man - How much money do you think I have, Sony?!
A few indies caught my eye as well, such as Sable, Raji, and The Wind Road, not to mention Ori 2. Might be others, can't remember every one.

Not sure where you get desperate from anything in this thread. My point is that both in terms of new IP and story driven, there’s lots of good news out of E3. Last three years I only had maybe one story-driven new IP each year that caught my attention. This year is an uptick, though admittedly very subjective. While I wasn’t worried, the gamer groupthink certainly got its panties in a wad over the shuttering of Visceral and EA saying nobody wants SP anymore. Did you miss all that? I found the comment and they never said "nobody wants", they said "they aren't as popular" which is a big distinction. Thanks for the correct quote, though I don't think it's that big a distinction in terms of the reaction. Maybe "interest is flat" might not have gotten a reaction, but any suggestion of less interest definitely would. In any case, I think what's going on is a confluence of the big dogs (EA, Bethesda, Ubisoft, etc.) either testing the waters of MP-first games or going hip deep, and thereby creating a vacuum that other devs can fill, plus the success of recent story-driven SP games like TW3 and HZD, that convinced more studios to invest in games, particularly new IP, that are story-driven SP.

RAGE2! All the mayhem. MAYHEM! Doom eternal is on the radar. Starfield and TESVI. But when? CP2077 went from cool to meh with that very generic looking trailer. No conveying of stress hormone or adrenaline rush in the action and shooting sequence. All the console exlusives are like whatever...

I mostly have eye on Single player&offline RPG / Action / Star Wars. So Anthem is out of the table. And welcome Odyssey,Jedi Fallen Order,Greedfall and maybe Cyberpunk2077.

Bethesda announced to have three games in the making, and only one out of those three is known to have a Multiplayer component, that one is Fallout 76. Starfield and Elders Scrolls VI are not known to be anything other than the usual Bethesda open-world single player RPGs.

Starfield and Elders Scrolls VI are not known to be anything other than the usual Bethesda open-world single player RPGs. Yeah, seems they did emphasize single player for Starfield. But I'm still a little skeptical. Particularly if Fallout 76 does really well. It actually seems like a bad business move to introduce a big new IP without a recurring revenue play, and that works best with an MP-first design. TESVI might stay the course as SP also, particularly if they continue to support modding at the level of Skyrim.

Just listening to an interview with Todd right now, and he again made a point of emphasizing that Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI will be core SP experiences that they're known for. I could see them making a MP/Mobile spin-off game from the core SP Starfield, like they have with their other franchises. And I think that's the smart route in the long run.

Only game, i think, Anthem could be worried about from E3, that i seen, is Divison 2, releasing a couple of weeks later emphasises the need for Anthem to launch smoothly an importantly with enough end game content that ppl are still engaged.
I honestly believe Anthem will see a successful launch (maybe even break records for BioWare) but they need to keep the players engaged an playing, a successful launch will mean nothing if everyone quits a couple of weeks later.
Other than that rest of the games i was interested in have been mentioned and tbh dont hold up to the amouny of time i could potentially spend in a game like Anthem or Division.
Last of Us 2 looks awesome but no interested in there mp an i'll be done after a couple of PT's an it same with Tomb Raider, Rage 2 an Doom look fun but again pvp mp holds no interest to me.
Obviously TES6 but i got a better chance of being worm food time that comes out 😆😆

Cyberpunk and Starfield are really the big ones for me. I'm getting Anthem, but that's with a shade of caution there because of its MP-centric design.

Instant preorders from games shown at E3 will be Cyberpunk 2077, Last of Us 2, AC: Odyssey, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Also intrigued by Death Stranding, because it's just so weird.

Well, I guess I am the odd one here, but: (EDIT: Just re-read the title post, but I don't want to change my post otherwise. LOL)
Soul Calibur VI: (played Soul Blade in the arcades back in ye olde days) I hope they are getting back on track with this series.
Dead or Alive 6: Another fighting game, but like its style just about the best.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The last 2 have been so much fun! And the exploration has been done properly.
Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition: We are finally getting the PS3 version with all the extras. Both of my friends praised it to high heavens and I enjoyed what I played before being completely derailed by ME3MP.
Devil May Cry 5: Character action! WOOOOO! Rock music, explosions, style! Heck yeah!
The Last of Us II: Even if I didn't like the first as much as Uncharted, I am still eager to see the story continue.
Possibly Assassin's Creed O (word drives my crazy trying to spell it properly): Character customization? Gender choice? Romance? Wow. (Likes playing dress up too much)
I don't need loads of games to be happy. My backlog is always full. I do want to see more about games like Death Stranding and the trio of Samurai/Japanese-based games.

I have a few restrictions which cut down the number of games I can get excited by. Must be third person (I get motion sick), PC only (so no console exclusives) and have a western aesthetic.
So games I'm excited by from E3
AC: Odyssey, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and The Division 2 (it has MP, but I played D1 totally solo for the story, but its not really story driven SP more story adjacent SP)

Ghost od Tsushima (photo mode will ruin me)
Kingdom Hearts 3 (yeeesh!!! Finally!!!)
Control (look interesting)
Beyond Good&Evil 2 (still on the fence because I'm still unsure with all the MP talk. I hope is completely optional and the game is playable offline)
Spyro (be still, kid heart! It's so.cute.)
Assassin's Creed:Odissey (female spartan badass Xena style? YES!!!)
Cyberpunk 2077 (With female character confirmed, must buy. A little on the fence over the first person thing, but still)
Spiderman (I'm not that much into superheroes, but I have a soft spot for Spidey and the game look fun)
The Elder Scrolls VI (how could I not?)
Starfield (the elder scrolls in space? I'm sold!)
I'm not much hyped for TLOU2 and Resident Evil2 only because I'm not into survival horror, but look great.

Greedfall looked really interesting to me until I saw the actual gameplay, low quality models and environments and clashy huds. So its fallen from 'oh awesome' to I will have to wait and see at release to get a better idea.

Agree about the low quality models, facial animation, etc. Environments I don't think are too bad, less than TW3 but more than or at least equal to DAI. HUD definitely takes up too much screen real estate, hopefully they'll tune that up. But I just love the premise: cowboys vs. indians, except the cowboys are Colonial soldiers and the indians have/are monsters, and everyone can us magic!

In my opinion, this years story driven games (and Sony games) will blow the living hell out of the MP focused games: Ghost of Tsushima: An open-world samurai game based on the Mongol invasions of Japan marinated with plenty of love for Akira Kurosawa's films? How many Western development studios have ever done this? Hell how many Japanese development studios have made games based on the Mongol invasions? A+, will pre-order limited edition. Death Stranding: The recent trailer was a bit disappointing compared to the previous trailers of WW2 skeleton soldiers and giants eating people with threads but it still compelling. I mean a narrative based on connections and invisible entities while trying to navigate a hostile world as not someone with a military background or special elite, but as a delivery man is very refreshing. Plus Hideo Kojima. B+, needs more sauce but nicely done. The Last of Us: Part Two: Better combat mechanics, more contextual based animations, women finally make an appearance as mooks for you to combat, Ellie "Jesus, Joel" Doe is finally taking after her adoptive father and killing people in very brutal ways. I want Joel back.. A+, Naughty Dog is still top dog. Spider-Man: Open world Spider Man done right, nuff said. A+, Pre-order buy.
What hope does Anthem have against just these four?
