Enjoy... www.gameinformer.com/exclusive-podcast/the-game-informer-show/2018/06/29/answering-anthems-lingering-questionsAnything stand out for you? Game Informer: John Warner Podcastwww.gameinformer.com/exclusive-podcast/the-game-informer-show/2018/06/29/answering-anthems-lingering-questions- In traditional BioWare style, you won't always be in agreement with your crew. There is potential for conflict. - Drew had a good impact on the game, though he was never the lead writer. - Coming up with the name "Anthem" took a lot of work due to the sheer amount of copyrighted names out there. "Javelin" was on the list of alt-names. - You will be able to see your character's face in the GUI. - While they toyed with 1st person view in the environment, they opted to go 3rd person as seeing your javelin flying was more impressive. - An example of an Event could be... a giant migration of creatures. He mentions "Irsics" (or something like that), which are gigantic, ape-like, insect creatures they apparently haven't shown yet. Another example might be a giant storm. - Mini-games and activities outside of combat (my question!) - TBD. - Brand new cast of voice actors. I wonder if that might have been due to the VA strike. - Daily / Weekly challenges. Sidequests. Repeatable quests. - Scaling damage to allow LL & HL Freelancers to play together. - Again emphasizing the verticality of the world. - Javelins: Different personalization pieces (helmets, gauntlets, etc.) can be added, but don't offer any statistical difference, just cosmetic. Things like Armor stats are based on the type of suit and the perks you take as a Freelancer. - No need to to return to base to "repair damage" to your Javelins. They experimented with that and found it was just too tedious. - There are sniper rifles in the game... for now. - Melee attacks are Javelin-specific, so no range of melee weapons to pick up. - Storm Javelin: Light, agile, and deals a ton of damage. - Ice damage will cool Javelin jetpacks... but it's still damage. - No upgrades for the Strider (at launch at least). - No upgrading your LL weapons to HL weapons. - They want you to have reasons to continue tinkering with your suit & gear to meet different challenges. Diablo 3 was mentioned as something similar. - Look forward to arguments over uber-builds... - There will be some Raid-like content in the Elder Game that are not Strongholds. - Customizable HUD. - Next look at gameplay will be in the late summer. We'll learn more about the Interceptor then.

I guess the campaign length can at least be pinned down as relatively shorter than any other BioWare title. No suprise.
You likely never see your avatar outside your javelin and loot is the name of the game. That's par for the course for a looter-shooter.
I don't think anything is news in that interview at this point.

The nod to Diablo III is interesting.
No a game I know, so curious what that might imply.
And Jon Warner is so controlled, he's giving away nothing he doesn't want to...

Yeh, the bit about the campaign length stung a bit... I hope it's at least longer than Desinty and Division and better than those two, also I hope the side quests are proper side quests, heh. Also the whole loot thing, he says that our javelins won't equip gear with stats, it's all cosmetic from there, that we have 2 weapons and 2 attachments and javelins will be using a perk system ala Diablo 3 I take it... For a looter, isn't this a bit little?

it's a game, honestly, I've been waiting to make my whole career. I really love this game and I love the subject matter that were dealing with and the setting and the characters yeah, I'm in love.
This is the type of statement that gets me excited. Passion and vision is a great recipe for creating something exceptional. Hopefully that is shared among the team.

I mean I think it will be better than Destiny or the Division, if only because those are low bars, but I don’t want the campaign to be too short. The gear system also just doesn’t sound very substantive.

Compare what was in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer at launch, with what was in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer after one year.
'Live' means growing.

Short campaign, limited gear... this is a nod to the RPG crowd... not a bow mind you. Bio's solo promotion, choices in Hubs, "you can change the world" nonsense is revealed as more hype than substance. Plus that 1st person PoV excuse that it will make you feel closer to your team and potential flirtatious NPC(s) is nonsensical (ie: the demo shows us a guy in your forward base... which I see it as "in your personal face / space" violation. Anyway, that's me and others, I'm sure, will revel with this format.
Bottom line, I find the short campaign troublesome but not totally unexpected. More reason to buy the game on sale.
In reality, after the short campaign, everyone will play the end-game world.... no choice. Here, is where EA hopes Anthem becomes a cash cow.

The nod to Diablo III is interesting. No a game I know, so curious what that might imply. And Jon Warner is so controlled, he's giving away nothing he doesn't want to... Well, DIII is a great game. Especially after the Reaper of souls. In a way you can look at DAI. Some people (who don't appreciate DAI) like to blame Skyrim for the zone gameplay but those of us that have many hourse invested in all three games will see that it is probably more DIII they glanced upon. In this case though I believe it is the "elder game" and the loot hunt it is all about. In DIII you have a neverending loop of harder and harder Greater rifts to tackle. And there are many levels of gear refinement, augmentation etc to work with in order to make it possible to push. Some like that gameplay, others don't.

I've got more than enough games to keep me occupied so I don't think I'll miss Anthem if I don't get it.

Where did you guys get the "limited gear" from? My bad, I meant stat equipment slots, we're probably gonna get a ton of loot, for weapons and attachments like rocket launchers and cannons and so forth. However armor wise, he said we're not gonna get stat related helmets, arm pieces legs... etc, thats all just gonna be cosmetic. Perks are also gonna be the major factor for gear level from both the javelin and pilot... I'm also confused and wish Bioware would just show more but probably gamescom

Wait wait, what's that about damage scaling for LL ad HL to be able to play together?
I'm really wondering how that concept would work... HL would do less damage if a LL joins? Or HL receives more damage from enemy attacks? What's the point in leveling then?

Ability points or unlocks or however that works. This sounds like incentives to encourage people to play nicely, including getting people who have been around a while to group with new players and casuals (that would be me).

Or HL receives more damage from enemy attacks? What's the point in leveling then? The amount of damage you deal/take is scaled for your particular level, so in theory, everyone would be doing the same amount of damage if everyone were to use the same weapon. The reason why your level matters is because 1) You miss out on leveling perks for your main character, which help to flesh out your javelins and improve their general performance 2) Mark Darrah has stated that there are areas in Free Play that are higher leveled and where you should avoid going (for instance, that Ancient Guardian in the E3 demo is high level and the Ranger did barely any damage). 3) Gear is tied to your level, and having a higher level means it becomes much more effective (in terms of what it offers). My assumption is that this means it'll bring with it new effects. It also wouldn't surprise me if certain tiers of weapons are level locked.

In fact, I would like it very much if leveling didn't necessarily make you more powerful. I would rather levelling being focused on giving you more options. Eg, higher weapons provide alternate fire modes, add ammo effects, ... anything but power. Same for skills. Levelling should make your skills mroe efficient or provide additional tactical options, but not make it more powerful.
BUT my main problem is, if they're adding damage scaling, that means that you HAVE to invest in stupid +10, 15, 20% power skills, otherwise, you're going to be useless at high levels. It is frustrating to level, and not feel the reward of it, instead, only becoming weaker.

That's right. Those power skills leads to consumable. A basic fare for Bio MP games. Are these consumables mtxable, I wonder?

BUT my main problem is, if they're adding damage scaling, that means that you HAVE to invest in stupid +10, 15, 20% power skills, otherwise, you're going to be useless at high levels. It is frustrating to level, and not feel the reward of it, instead, only becoming weaker.
Power creep is very undesirable to me, too.
