Emotionally deficient does not a robot make. Going by what they did in Mass Effect 2 to reconstruct Shepard, it seems like he would fall at least into the cyborg category now. If your Shepard is a biotic, He would be considered a cyborg due to his biotic implants. Due to that Reconstruction within ME2, he is a cyborg regardless of class. Also within ME2 Project Overlord, David exploited Shepard's implants. And Legion used Shepard's Implants within Geth Consense within ME3.

They've made one of the best game series of all time. They've done fine. If they did made the best series, why do they keep receiving backlash from the ending of ME3 and how horrible Andromeda was? If they done so well with the series, then why Mass Effect is put on hold, and the studio has been dissolved by EA? That's the problem with the whole "BioWare can't do no wrong" mentality. I said one of the best. Try reading more closely next time. The backlash was from fans with unrealistic expectations. Fans who wanted a "sunshine and rainbows" happily ever after ending with their LI. I on the other hand knew we'd never get that. The backlash was unwarranted. Andromeda did have some issues at launch but most have been fixed.

No surprise you'd say that. But actually Wolfenstein did that. If it wasn't for that we wouldn't have Doom, Goldeneye or modern fps games. However popular those games are that doesn't prove me wrong. This is still one of the best game series I've ever played. How does: this is the best game series that you have played = best game series ever worldwide? Can you not read? I never said the best.

The Mass Effect series has been hailed as one of the best gaming series in history. There have been multiple articles about it, and it has even been put in the Smithsonian when they did a special wing about the art of video games.

And they've done a horrible job. I would suggest that they should not touch Mass Effect at all, until they learn from their mistakes and get their shit in order. They've made one of the best game series of all time. They've done fine. Mileage may vary. I think it's a good series - and I appreciate its unique nature in the realm of pc/console games. But it certainly had some giant WTF story moments (especially that ending) and poor carry over of choice consequences. Despite that, it had great characters, interesting story and I've enjoyed it enough to replay it repeatedly. Like Iakus, I'd like to see a total reboot. Polish that sucker up and free up the ending so that it can be really bad or really good - depending on three games worth of choices.

That's not really how Mass Effect works. It's not about everything influencing the final cutscene of the game. It's about taking the choices you did in the previous game and having them affect the next game.
However, since the 3rd game was the final one, everything in 1 & 2 affect how 3 as a whole plays out.

That's not really how Mass Effect works. But that's how it should have worked, for my money. Hopefully, they'll be able to pull something off like that a little better in the future.

I had all my Sheps tell the Council in ME2 where to shove their Spectre status. Where was the outcome for that in ME3?

I said one of the best. Try reading more closely next time. The backlash was from fans with unrealistic expectations. Fans who wanted a "sunshine and rainbows" happily ever after ending with their LI. I on the other hand knew we'd never get that. The backlash was unwarranted. Andromeda did have some issues at launch but most have been fixed. Ninja what? The backlash was that the endings were 3 colors of Go Fuck Yourself. The backlash was the illogical horseshit that came spewing out the moment the magic elevator kicked in. The backlash was from the prior choices have irrelevant bearing on the RGB. The backlash was from a megaton of contradictions that breach the lore to an extreme level. It's bad enough that some of ME3's plots completely did away with logic and sought out the rule of cool instead. Endings being happy were such a small part in comparion to what most of us were arguing about on OG BSN. But yeah, what I want in ME5 is something I mostly posted in another thread: Use ME2 as a baseline for tone and art direction. Use ME1 as a baseline for setting. Use ME3 as a baseline for gameplay. MEA had elements of these but mostly weaker elements minus gameplay, but aiming and impact factor were very clunky. Case in point, if I shoot a guy, he shouldn't ignore that slug and punch me in the face like he's Iron Man. He should be either dead or stunned. The design of the areas and aesthetic plus a-yes- edgier tone like ME2. Being edgy and being edgelord aren't mutually exclusive. I do not want a fucking nonstop hug fest with the worst parts of Marvel movie comedy arbitrarily shoved in. I want pissed off protagonists and mercs dropping f-bombs. I want gore. I want darker stories and shady underworld clubs where the wrong moves will get someone shot. I want asari badasses and independant (not autistic) squadmates. ME1 for SETTING, which relatively includes plot. Something open yet with urgency and UNC type missions more like a mix between MEA and ME2 where they have story threads to follow (like that Hahne-Kedar facility or Contagion). Though I've never had a problem with ME2's plot I can see that it doesn't appeal to everyone. But to someone like me, "assemble the baddest and best in the galaxy to body a technologically superior enemy" catches my attention quickly. ME3's gameplay had some better elements like the aforementioned stunning and weapon impact. Enemies actually react to getting hit and the hit effects were much better. When you set off a biotic explosion in ME3 it sounds devastating. MEA's combat areas are much better though. They can happen nearly anywhere rather than just arenas designed for shootouts. I'll also give huge props to how flamer, overload, cryo blast (beam), and pull were redesigned.

This may yield some answers.

I liked the "assemble badasses" part of ME2 - reminded me of the Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven. The problem was this crew wasn't applied in an interesting way to the Reaper plot - a plot set in motion by Shep as he marched off at the end of ME1.

It's been ages since I played Mass Effect, so my recollection of what happens to that particular choice is a bit off. Maybe someone else has the answer?
If you want an answer to one I do know is that getting Jenna out of Chora's Den during ME1, helps in ME3 by her saving Conrad Verner's life and them hooking up for a date. Otherwise, Conrad gets shot.

That's the thing, nothing becomes of that choice, save for Anderson only saying Shep used to be a Spectre while on Earth during the beginning and that is all. The rest plays out like the rest of the game afterwards.

Fans who wanted a "sunshine and rainbows" happily ever after ending with their LI. I on the other hand knew we'd never get that. The backlash was unwarranted. Andromeda did have some issues at launch but most have been fixed. While I am sure some fans felt that way I think that is a unfair way to characterize most of the complaints. People didn't like a magic wand ending as it did not feel like Mass Effect. 1 ending was pretty much what people expected, 1 of the endings was short notice and kind of silly to think it would work, 1 was with no notice and that one was just the designers foisting their religion on people at the last second. It would be like if at the end of a dragon age game you stumble across a computer and can execute 1 of 3 lines of code, 1 destroyed the dark spawn, 1 controlled them and the 3rd was Christianity, If you picked the 3rd you sacrificed yourself on cross but everyone else lived out happily ever after dark spawn and friends worked together for a lasting peace holding hands and singing songs about love and friendship. Yeah I'm sure people would love it.
Out of the blue endings, lack of continuity, and space magic dialed to infinity is what people were complaining about.

I don't see any of the endings as religious and a deus ex machina was really the only thing they could do and it was within lore. Expecting otherwise was the problem.

I would like to continue the story from Andromeda, Shepard is dead. I would like a great story with choices that really influence the game. I would like feelings, friendship and love to feel more involved. I would like great fights, great weapons and fantastic armor. I would like a real Bioware style game. Audio in Italian please or I become blind.

When people say ME3 and MEA broke the lore, how? The same lore where Charon is a mass relay encased in ice and protheans get retconned from 1 to 2? Where blue women with tentacles on their heads can have sex with you mentally? Where a soldier can be brought back from the dead because his space helmet kept his brain intact as he fell to the ground at terminal velocity? Where...
Anyway, lore can bend or even break. I really don't see where starchild or a 634 year trip across dark space breaks the lore.
Mass Effect is my favorite franchise just ahead of Doom, Dragon Age and probably Gears of War. I can accept all of it's eccentricities, yet recognize they are far fetched.

It's really hard to talk about Mass Effect without somebody deciding to bash the series because their latest entries weren't as good as 2. I still love the Mass Effect franchise, 3 is my personal favorite, and I'm the kind of guy who wants to see developers try something new.
Personally, I think the story approach for a new Mass Effect game should take place in Andromeda since it's both figuratively and literally still mostly uncharted territory. Rather than go back to the Ryders and the Tempest crew, I would have the game focus on a mercenary group. Playing as a mercenary really helps open up the character customization, maybe finally giving us the chance to play as other species in single player, not to mention it also allows us to really stretch out our morality without being limited to just a "good guy with an attitude" as your worst option.
I also want to see Mass Effect go for the tone and style of 2. Not necessarily super dark, edgy, and gory (I don't really like those kind of stories), but definitely a more "adult" world that showcases the seedy underbelly along with some of the beautiful stuff.
To go along with that, I want whatever new ship we get to be a messy piece of junk. I think when a spaceship is less shiny and polished and more cluttered and rusting, it makes the ship somehow feel more lived in and like home.
