Witcher - got bored several times, finally understood combat, and did actually finish it.
Witcher 2 - relatively enjoyed it until I got a save in a bad place, and my only option was to fucking start over. No.
Witcher 3 - didn't finish the in-game demo/trainer.
...
I hope CP2077 is more my speed.

Fallout 3. I played Fallout 4 first, and the gameplay difference was too jarring for me. Plus I wasn't really attached to the story, so there was nothing going for me there.
I started a New Vegas playthrough forever ago, but I wouldn't say I've given up on continuing it...yet. I've just been distracted with other things.

Here's another game I bought but never got anywhere with that forgot all about in my first post:
Deus Ex Ask anyone, and they'll tell you that this game is an absolute classic, but I just couldn't make any headway with it. I went straight to that game from standard shooters like Doom, Quake et al - and so naturally I began Deus Ex by shooting, or attempting to shoot everything in my way. Obviously I didn't get very far, given the miniscule amount of ammo you're provided with and the apparently unkillable robot sentries that absolutely kicked my ass. I just assumed that this game was absolutely uber hardcore and that the people who had completed it must be the leetest of the leet with God-like reflexes and skills.
It was only later that I came to understand that it wasn't supposed to be played as a straight shooter, and that the general idea was to avoid combat and use stealth tactics. I just couldn't get on with this kind of play though, it was so utterly alien to me. I proved hopeless at getting past the guards unseen and couldn't even complete the first mission.

Well that list would be almost endless at least 300+ games that i haven't finished yet. The last game on that very long list is Far Cry 5 in that game i'm at ( i think ) 12% and i don't think that i will ever finish it.

Deus Ex (the recent one). Twice. I tried, but the combat mechanics were such a faff, and the protagonist isn't exactly 'Mr Personality', so didn't make it far, tried again making it less far.

It can be just as frustrating and time-consuming playing as stealth - I did and never finished it either, because I just got tired of dying ten times in a row trying to accomplish the same thing. Also, I dislike games with large environments and no auto-mapping. I found it annoyingly easy to get lost in DX. Invisible War seemed like it might be a little less frustrating, but it kept doing this weird freezing thing where I had to pretend to force-quit to get the game to advance to the next scene.
I liked both of the Adam Jensen games, though HR's ending is almost as arbitrarily restrictive as ME3's is. Basically, you can broadcast somebody else's propaganda, or you can blow up yourself and hundreds of innocent people to avoid siding with any of the main characters or factions.

I remember watching a review of Mass Effect 3 (think it might have been Angry Joe) which basically stated that the ending had been ripped straight from Deus Ex Human Revolution. Having never played the latter game I can't really make the comparison for myself. Your signature kind of reminds me of a Star Trek The Next Generation episode I remember watching back in the 90s. The scenario involved a world where the inhabitants did not speak descriptively as we do, but rather used a series of elaborate historical analogies to communicate. I remember it being pretty interesting, though it's years since I saw it.

That's actually where my signature comes from - the alien captain exclaims "Sokath, his eyes uncovered!" when Picard starts to understand how they communicate. The most famous quotes are probably "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" and "Shaka, when the walls fell." The title of the episode is "Darmok" and I think it's available on Netflix.

ME3's pathetic ending was indeed a straight copy of the equally pathetic ending of Deus Ex HR...
It was the first thing that came to my mind when I finished ME3. Extremely similar in execution.

Age of DecadenceReally, there should be something that sucks you into the story. Didn't work for me, in spite of recommendations by people whose opinions I value. I enjoyed that game myself, but it's indeed more about the atmosphere and the setting in general than anything else. And about hardcore unforgiving RPG elements. Hardcore unforgiving RPG elements? What are those? I probably I didn't get far enough into it to notice.
As for atmosphere, that is, among other things, a matter of aesthetics, and the game didn't strike me as very appealing in that regard. I recall finding it all rather drab. The lore, what I got of it, sounded somewhat interesting but far away. Many games have that problem, btw. - it appears that developers think people would be overwhelmed if you started somewhere central, so you always start in some remote corner of the world, with the interesting parts of the setting to be encountered later in the game. I do not mind as a rule, but it does mean that story and characters are more important at that point.

A game slipped my mind when I first posted.
Alien Isolation: I couldn't finish this game because it was bad or anything like that. In fact its a fantastic game, but I can only describe my tapping out as being due to the fact that it was 2 Spooky 4 Me. A couple scares managed to get a few screams out of me, and I just couldn't handle it. But, with Halloween around the corner, I'm considering giving it another go and try to beat the game.

A couple scares managed to get a few screams out of me, and I just couldn't handle it. But, with Halloween around the corner, I'm considering giving it another go and try to beat the game. Never played it, never will. It looks fantastic, but I just can't handle those kind of games. I'm a total wuss when it comes to games where you have to constantly sneak around and run away to avoid an unkillable antagonist, I just don't enjoy it - instead I just experience a horrible feeling of stress, fear and anxiety. There's enough of both in real life without adding a bunch more to something I do for enjoyment. If I really get into a game I find it hard to emotionally declutch myself from the game world. I guess that many other players are not like this and they have a kind of constant mental separation between themselves and the game, to the effect that part of their minds are constantly saying " who cares? It's not real, it's just pixels". For them avoiding the alien is no more stressful than avoiding the barrels in a game of Donkey Kong. In general I'm not a fan of survival horror at all, but I can just about handle things as long as it's possible to actually kill, or otherwise neutralise the things that are after me. I just don't like unkillable enemies. I don't like the feeling of not being in control. I can just about handle the Antlion Guardian section in Half Life Episode 2 - in which you're chased down narrow tunnels by this terrifying, alien-looking, brutish, roaring thing that you cannot kill. I'm completely on edge when I do it, and my heart's pounding in my chest - but it's fairly short and I can live with it - especially given the fact that I can kick it's ass a bit later in the game. I can handle Doom 3, scary as it is, because at least I can kill everything that attacks me. Alien Isolation though, or that last Resident Evil game? No thanks. I'll leave that for the non-wusses to handle.

Dragon Age Origins
I tried to play it but the combat is extremely boring and god awful. I can't dodge, block, or parry however I want. Can't even explore like on Oblivion. I don't even know how people can tolerate this game.

Resident Evil 5
The combat gameplay once again is very awful. I can't even move and shoot with my character, and I cant even see the laser sight where I'm aiming at. IDK why they gave that game a high score.
MGS4: Guns of the Patriots
The gameplay was all well and good, but the story is terrible, and the characters are a complete joke that I decided to refund it to GameStop.

Origins is incredibly overrated. When compared to DA2, I would agree. I prefer DA2. Has a better main story imo. DAO has an incredibly clichéd bland plot. It's the characters and overall presentation that make it good. Despite not having aged well, I think DAO is still a great game. I prefer ME1 over any Dragon Age game, however, despite the combat REALLY not having aged well either.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed DAII but it fell really short, comparing it to DAO. Imho, DAO was one of the greatest RPG of its generation, while DAII was a enjoyable game, but nothing more.

Imho, DAO was one of the greatest RPG of its generation, while DAII was a enjoyable game, but nothing more. Yeah, DA2 needed more time! The third act felt really rushed. It's a rough diamond... I guess for me Hawke made the game. The warden just felt like an avatar. I am not a big fan of silent protagonists, I admit. I really enjoyed the personal story of Hawke more than the go-defeat-the-big-monster-and-its-horde trope. That said, DAO had Alistair and Morrigan and other great characters and all sorts of awesome moments. And I'll never forget the ending I got! DAO is not overrated to me per se, it's more that DA2 is underrated. (Also, ME3 is underrated.)
I haven't replayed DAO in ages but in terms of how fun the gameplay was at the time, it's actually DAI's combat that was the least fun. By far.
The only game in the past few years I gave up on because of the gameplay specifically was Witcher 1.

It's hard to get my head around anyone actually disliking Dragon Age Origins - which, in my opinion, stands among the greatest video game ever made; but I guess it takes all sorts. Hehe, reminds me of some of those Amazon reviews for classic albums like Dark Side of The Moon, Unknown Pleasures, Aladdin Sane, Pet Sounds, Revolver etc. etc. etc. There's always one hipster guy who gives it a one star, saying it's boring, derivative, overrated crap, and if you want REAL music you should listen to [insert totally obscure band here].

Origins is incredibly overrated. Inquisition is also overrated. just change darkspawn for demons. Anyway, 9 of 10 times the complains about the combat system come from console users, which is understandable, and by today standards and how many started backwards with this series, it's all on point really with the complains.
