DAO remains my favourite DA game, and (in my opinion) Bioware's best game since NWN.
So I decided to play it again after a few years away.
I'm surprised how much the game reminds me of NWN. I always knew it was the same engine (playing NWN these days always reminds me of KotOR), but having now spent years in more modern games DAO is really obviously running on Aurora.
I mostly reminds me of the first ever NWN marketing footage, which had a very DAO camera angle. It's the same game, but with full-party control. Maybe that's why I like it so much. If we could add in NWN's dance of death DAO might be perfect.
I'm running with my standard mods, making the dog a 5th party member and undoing the spell nerfs from patch 1.02.
I like the game as much as I ever did. Great game. I wish someone would make another like it.

you also have searched if there are any mods out there that can enhance the roleplaying experience you love so much, when you talk about RPGs?
(it's a friendly question, just want to remark it, in case that it can maybe sound the other way around. I also love roleplaying experience of this kind of level.)

To be honest, I'm pretty happy with the roleplaying experience in DAO. Now that you ask, though, I wonder if there's any way to selectively disable cutscenes so I don't have to see the scenes for which the Warden isn't present. I did forget to mention the Detailed Tooltips and No Follower Auto-Level mods, which I have literally never played the game without. DAO's greatest weakness, I think, was the lack of technical documentation. One of the combat designers (Georg Zoeller) ran a side-project called the Missing Manual where he compiled a bunch of this stuff for players who wanted it.

I only played NWN once, but this game REALLY reminds me of Shadows of Amn
Darkspawn / Bhaalspawn Tragic origin. Smart Assed Dwarf companion. Morrigan is half Jaheira, half Viconia. Leliana is half Imoen, half Aerie All we need is a hamster.

I'm doing a replay myself, and for someone who disparaged it for being too high fantasy when it came out, I've done a complete 180 on the writing and themes covered in the game. It's some of Bioware's best work. Glad I'm not the only who thinks the combat is largely impenetrable. The descriptions given in the game simply do not suffice.

The Detailed Tooltips mod makes a world of difference. Why would anyone not want to know that Fireball does 30 + 0.3×SP damage?

Why would anyone not want to know that Fireball does 30 + 0.3×SP damage? Because not everyone cares about combat mechanics or plays in such a way that they need detailed descriptions? For spells, the only thing that matters to me are single target vs AOE, whether it leaves behind some status effect (burning, slow, stun), or has some other property (in Skyrim lightning drains mana, etc). I play DA on casual or normal; combat, while it can be fun, is just not important to me.

What I don't understand is why game developers now like to make it so hard to gather this information.

It's a shame I've never played NWN, lol. I have played KOTOR tho, and it's amongst my all time favorite games.

DAO remains my favourite DA game, and (in my opinion) Bioware's best game since NWN. [...]I like the game as much as I ever did. Great game. I wish someone would make another like it. Yup, as far as I'm concerned, Bioware went all downhill from there. Not to the point of my not playing their games until Anthem, but downhill all the same.
Also, I'm returning to DAO, and I had to re-install the game due to being on a new PC. So I didn't have my old game folder, but I had my old user folder, and guess what.....my complete rather complex mod setup appears to be intact. I had a face for one of my characters that required about two dozen mods. She loads perfectly.

It's a shame I've never played NWN, lol. I have played KOTOR tho, and it's amongst my all time favorite games. NWN plays a lot like KotOR, but with a deeper ruleset and a vastly superior UI and control scheme. NWN was the last decent BioWare UI.
