Check out that alien at 1:36!
Should Bioware give us more alien civilizations and aliens that are less humanoid?
No. Civilized aliens are almost universally humanoid for a reason - it's the most energy-efficient body shape. Bipedalism allows arms to be used for tool manipulation instead of locomotion, which is essential for the development of civilization.

I would very much like to see more non-humanoid aliens in Mass Effect but even if the franchises continues I don't think that is too likely. Creating a whole new set of appealing and complex animations for a totally different body design is a lot of time and effort that the managers will feel is better spent elsewhere. I'd love see Hanar and Elcor actually walking about, with different clothing and armors of their own. The Rachni surely did not fight in the nude, but probably developed weapons and armor to further compliment their abilities.

No. Civilized aliens are almost universally humanoid for a reason - it's the most energy-efficient body shape. Bipedalism allows arms to be used for tool manipulation instead of locomotion, which is essential for the development of civilization. That's an assumption. We don't know what might be out there in the universe and how they might have evolved into civilization. You're also assuming a civilization has to be like ours. We don't have enough of a sample size to know anything for certain. This is like some people claiming that you have to be X distance from the sun on X type of planet for life to evolve. Maybe for life like us but that's the only assumption we could make.
