I have only played FO4. It's one of my fav games, I must have hundreds hours of it not closer to 1k clocked on my main sole survivor. I guess I should check others out as well if they are somewhat like 4th at least.

Well, the gameplay in the first to is very different. For me it isn't worth going back there now. FO3 and FNV on the other hand is more to my liking. Overall I prefer FO4 though. For now my prime Fallout is '76.

Fallout New Vegas DESTROYS Fallout 4 in every aspect except graphics and gunplay. But everything else - quests, choices, dialogue, leveling up, story writing is miles better than FO4.
Even Fallout 3 is better than 4, but I would say both of them suck.
Fallout 2 is great, Fallout 1 is good. Both of them feel very dated now and are not 3D but isometric, but still are classic and for 1998 - state of the art.
Fallout 76 will be a piece of shit boring wasteland for 12 year old's to punch each other and jump around, filled with bugs, de-sync, griefing, immersion breaking nonsense and no mods to save it.

lol I'll never get the Fallout 4 hate. I like it better than Fallout 3 (which I've still played a ton) and probably around the same as Fallout New Vegas. It's fallout 1 & 2 I can't enjoy. Probably because I started with 3. I own the first 2, just can't play them for much longer than half an hour at a time lol

I have killed a supermutant in FO4 once. He had a note on him which said:
KILL.LOOT.RETURN.
And that's the summary of FO4. The devs know, It's their inside joke. The players are as dumb as generic supermutants.

Very true about FO4's "quest" design. FO3 is much superior in SIDE QUEST content.
I got lucky... Or unlucky... That I found settlement building the coolest thing ever. It's where I can roleplay. I make up stories of my settlers and how the Sole Survivor is pals with them. Which settlements like each other and which don't.
But yeah the actual game is shit for role playing. You can only be evil thanks to Nuka World. I don't usually play evil characters so I don't personally mind. And I happen to actually adore my dumbass how-ya-doing-folks daddy. But I get why many many people hated the framework of this game.

But I get why many many people hated the framework of this game. I would agree that the settlement system would've been cool and lore friendly if it was implemented by Bethesda as it was done by Sim Settlements mod. That mod has done EXACTLY what I was thinking about from day 1.
It seemed weird and dumb to me, that here you are - a survivor who comes out from a vault 200 YEARS after the bombs fell and you start scrapping buildings and trees and making new buildings and generators and other stuff in the matter of HOURS. No one has touched the place for decades and suddenly 1 guy/gal rebuilds towns bigger and better than Diamond City in a few days. LOL.
But that mod makes it so you only plan stuff out, and the settlers build everything slowly in time and you have to actually care about them and defend them. Which makes more sense and is way more immersive.

I have played all FO games including Tactics. Currently at 1301 hours in FO4. I agree that story wise NV was better than FO3. It could use a bit more grimdark and mature/dark humour from FO 1 and 2.
Although I will not play FO 76 due to it being an MMO, I hope it will succeed as I love the setting. Personally I am hoping for a single player game set in the NCR ( perhaps travelling by train or car like in FO2 ). Or failing that a game set in New York ( we're running out of big and famous cities like this )

Exploring and the side quests are its only saving grace. Main quest is blah as is all Bethy games and they dumbed down character creation, no SPECIAL, traits, karma or anything of that sort.

My favorite thing about Fallout 4; the companions. As much as I love Skyrim, these were a massive step up in every way. The only downside is that I couldn't romance Deacon, but oh well.

I signed up with the Railroad because I believe in Synth rights, not because I want to overload nuclear reactors or blow up an airship full of BoS personnel just doing their jobs.

You have a choice between: - SJW idiots who'll get everyone killed eventually Terminator style (Railroad) - Creepy eugenics assholes who'll eventually get everyone killed Terminator style (Institute) - Wasteland nazis who'll get everyone killed eventually Terminator style too because of GIANT KILLER ROBOT ...seriously guys, WTF (Brotherhood) - well-meaning but incompetent morons (Minute Men)
I LIKE the Minute Men actually because even though incompetent they never actually wanted to go to war with anybody until the endgame railroad you into it all the same. And if you pick them, you can at least let the Brotherhood and Railroad live. HOWEVER, this is only possible if you shoot a random innocent unarmed person in the Institute like a school shooter to get banished. And of course you fucking blow up the Institute later, shoot a whole bunch of people more there even if you go for the most peaceful option.
But hey, it's Fallout. Everybody is insane and everything is awful! I don't even mind. In fact, I thought it wasn't fucked up ENOUGH given the franchise's usual over the top ludicrous scenarios. The endgame is a weird case of being extremely awful no matter what you do and somehow at the same time it's depicted as perfectly all right. So the game sells the Sole Survivor as a kind of savior while actually they are really the leader of a mass murder operation.

I agree for most part. I ultimately sided with the brotherhood because I thought the minuteman to be too incompetent to be the de-facto ruling force of the commonwealth. The BOS is simply far more organized, well supplied and well armed for such a job. Though I disliked that they pretty much run protection rackets with the local farmers (no freaking way I'm paying 500 caps for every farm they hire. Money doesn't come easy in this game and supplies are not cheap). I had little qualms with destroying either the institute or the railroad. I don't like hippies neither mad scientists with a god complex. Hell, I despised the institute so much for what they did with the sole survive that I didn't even issued the evacuation order for them (though I did felt pitty enough for Synth Shawn to take him along with me). By the end I was too underwhelmed with the story. The fact you end with virtually the same lackluster ending slide regardless of what you do feels very lazy from the writers. At least give us an epilogue for the major factions and characters.

I know I'm in the minority but I found the endgame pretty satisfying in execution. Sure, it's basically the same ending each time but at least you had a choice which faction flag you wanted to wave. Much improved over FO3's ending and general BOS lap dog plot design. Now of course both suck compared to NV...

Bethesda needs better writers when it comes to the main story of their games. F4 sucked just like their previous games. Finally meeting your son for the first time and it was a major let down. Seemed cold and distant in dialog and there wasn't that much dialog to go around.
I like Bethesda's side quests and world building, they're great at world building, but they need to outsource the writing for the main quest and romances. Romances are lackluster at best.

If it wasn't for the mods I wouldn't have finished Fallout 4. The main story quest was not engaging & I cared more about my crops then my kid. However, Fallout 4 did give me Hancock & for that I thank it mightily. I never finished New Vegas which is a shame since everyone says it's the best.

Yeah the main quest is lacking. At the moment I'm level 79 and have yet build the transporter to take me to the Institute. I'm just exploring the wastes and doing some side quests that I missed in other games.

I got the game two weeks ago.
I like the dialogue, it's dynamic but there's enough consistency for the character type I like to play (lawful good/lawful nice, traditional paladin-esque, very wholesome sort and all that good stuff; or as much as I can be given that it's Fallout)
Helping the Minutemen is very cool, and as the General, I can serve as an example and inspiration throughout the Commonwealth. Plus artillery; when in doubt, call in an artillery strike.
I have the holotape that Codsworth held for me, the one titled: "Hi Honey"...
I am not going to listen to it until I reach the end of the game, and Nora's Wedding Ring is always in my inventory no matter what.
If I never listen to the tape, then she's not really gone...
I found a machete that has a chance to set enemies on fire on hit while hunting down Kellogg. Talking with him was... brief, and I just kept hacking away until he died, then I took out my pistol and shot him in the head, blowing it to pieces.
This game makes me feel a lot of things. The music that played when I fought the first deathclaw in power armor wielding a chain-gun felt very messianic. Very much a "FEAR NOT. I AM WITH YOU." feel.
It was glorious.
Sometimes trying to protect all the settlements is, well, trying... But then I remind myself that Nora wouldn't want me to give up, and Shaun is still out there, so I will fight the good fight for as long as I can.
I must.
Because war, war never changes.

I thought some characters were unkillable. I've been waiting for the Vault Tek sales rep to show up at Sanctuary Hills for a while and he has been a no show. As I was randomly exploring downtown Boston, I found him dead by Cabot House. Now I won't have him as a trader.

He's always made it to Sanctuary for me, but sometimes died afterward when the place was attacked. So now I immediately outfit him in a bathrobe with the highest ballistic weave, because he might as well be safe and comfy.

Yeah the main quest is lacking. At the moment I'm level 79 and have yet build the transporter to take me to the Institute. I'm just exploring the wastes and doing some side quests that I missed in other games. My girl was level 102 or something when I stopped playing. Never even got a sniff of the institute but I built a lot of comfortable settlements (and killed a lot of deathclaws). The Vault Tec guy can die? Oh. He's serving drinks in Sanctuary in my game.

Well, I've done it.
Completed the main story...
The BOS is no longer in the Commonwealth, and the Institute has their reactor up and running.
Preston, Piper, Codsworth, and Danse were my "main", but when my allegiance to the Institute became clear, Danse turned on me.
To his credit, he didn't target anyone else at Sanctuary Hills.
I heard my wife and son for the last time.
