I was curious about the game a year ago, but after watching some reviews and gameplay, it seems the start is promising, but then runs out of steam (pun not intended) real fast.
I'll also wait for a sale. Valhalla is real close.

I didn't feel like it ran out of steam personally. It's AA 30-40ish hour game similar to KOTOR but with Cain/Boyarsky Fallout-like dark humor.

Just started with this game. It feels like "Fallout: New Vegas in Space". Not yet sure if that's a good thing or a bad one, but the exaggerated stereotyping is not exactly appealing.

That was my biggest gripe with the game as well. It is particularly bad in the beginning though. Well, it does go on throughout the game and maybe I just adjusted to it but I was most annoyed about the over-the-top stereotypes in Edgewater. But stick with it, it certainly has it's positives as well.

Finished the game. Quite OK and I don't regret to have bought it, but the formula is getting old. Horizon Zero Dawn had more appeal as a world and a story, though character customization was better in TOW. Also, I continued to dislike the over-the-top stereotyping. Finally, why do we even get so many face customization options if we never see our characters in the game, except in the inventory windows?
So, all in all, good but not great. And way too much loot. And an annoying level cap, I played about 25% of the game getting no xp. Observation on the side: from the achievements it appears as if 95% of those who bought the game didn't finish it. I have a lot of criticism, but it didn't deserve that.

Yeah, I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the standard edition. What's the general consensus on this game?
I definitely enjoyed it (Main Game & DLC) and just waiting for the next DLC. Some people seemed be surprised by the tone and style of the game, so maybe watch some Let's Plays first, if you haven't already.

Decided to pull that trigger and started playing it. Looking good so far.
Of all the things I've seen on the battlefields of the Frontier, the Pilot is the true dominant force.
