Does Calpernia always escape? It's been a long time that I played so I don't recall. Yeah, she lives regardless of your choices. The DA Keep confirms you can only defeat her, not kill her. Even if you fight her, at the end she throws herself off a cliff, and... no body. Her and Tali, ....buddies forever.

Doesn't Calpernia automatically die when siding with the mages? I have a little blackout over that.

Doesn't Calpernia automatically die when siding with the mages? I have a little blackout over that. From the wiki If the inquisition recruits the Mages... If the Inquisitor chooses to side with the Mages instead of the Templars, Calpernia is never encountered. A note in the Western Approach indicates that she catalogues artifacts for Corypheus and thus is still serving as a Venatori.

Hopefully she can be brought to justice instead of walking away scotfree again. It depends on what she has done in the interim. If she has genuinely rejected the Venatori and is trying to atone for her past mistakes by bringing the rest of them to justice, then I'd cut her some slack. If she is still hell bent on Tevinter supremacy using that organisation and its members, then this time I would show her no mercy. I was surprised that the Venatori were still going strong in Tevinter Nights as I thought the faction would have died with Corypheus, bearing in mind we took out several of its leading figures along the way and according to Magekiller the Archon was on their case as well. The Venatori in Vyrantium at least seem totally corrupt and abusive of their power. Not only that but they also seem committed to the use of red lyrium. So someone must be running the show and whilst the Altus members might not appreciate taking orders from a former slave, she was careful to keep her origins secret and with her independence from any noble house, might be the only person the individual Altus would trust. So she could be a returning enemy in the next game and you will get your wish. However, there is another possibility. There was mention of an anti-slavery movement in Minrathous. Could Calpernia be behind that? Of course it could equally be Dorian or even an agent of Solas but it would fit with her original agenda.

Guys, the real villain of DAI is the feckin’ wolf/hyena/mabari packs. They appear virtually everywhere in the game, constantly interrupt fights with other monsters and all they drop is shitty Canine Leather. Also, they look as goofy as hell.

The black wolfs and dogs/hyenas also have super strange "AI", as sometimes they just spin around on top of some stone and I die laughing. This also happens in multiplayer a lot.

Lengthy Twitter thread to follow. Note: I changed "dialog" to "dialogue" because that's my preferred spelling.Mike Laidlaw @mike LaidlawThere will come a time (probably soon) when I'll feel weird talking about Dragon Age because it will be someone else's jam and I won't want to steal any spotlights, but I'm going to tell a couple stories of subtle things from Inquisition that made me really happy. The first is in Haven, when you get a chance to walk around and catch up with all the principal characters: Cullen, Cass, Varric, etc. What I don't think a lot of people realized is that they have a lot of different dialogue depending on whether you imported a save from the DA Keep. If you didn't import at all, their dialogue was a lot more introductory and didn't deep dive into a lot of extra questions about theprevious games. If you did import any world state, though, they had a bunch of extra things you could ask about, including previous relationships. The reasoning for this, basically, was if you imported, we could safely assume you were enough into the whole "state of the world" that the extra dialogue would be rewarding and an early sign that your previous choices were listened-to and mattered. While someone who hadn't done the import was likely a new player, or not deeply invested enough in world state stuff to want to have those dialogues. As such, we could save those folks from clicking through a ton of possibly meaningless dialogues. Normally I'm not a huge fan of "hidden reactivity" as it often goes unnoticed, but in this case wanted it to be unnoticed. We wanted a smoother, less confusing 'on-boarding' for new players and I think in the end it was a successful endeavour. The second thing that's subtle but so cool falls largely on the world on a few key folks in design, sound and localization. In summary: at the very end of Trespasser, no matter how many characters are reference, no matter what languages the lines are played in, the credits scroll ALWAYS end exactly as Cass realizes "he put her in the book." It was a matter of working backwards and the designer assigned "lengths" to every possible comment she could make (which was quite variable, as some characters could be missed entirely and never met) by language. The total added "length" of each line that would fire was then added up dynamically for the player's specific state, and then as the credits played, they would transition from the bard songs over Trespasser's credits to Cassandra's reading at the exact moment to stick the ending. I guess this is all to say: there were some really brilliant moments in the midst of all the bullshit, and I think every game has those subtleties and moments of real artistry. I appreciate the teams who work so hard on them across the industry ... ... and I'm looking forward to being surprised myself sometime.

Also a lie. Many bears drop nothing after I spend way too much time painfully wittling their massive hit points down. Seriously, dragons take less time to kill than some of those damn bears, especially at low levels.

Pre-Skyhold, I go to the spot in the Hinterlands where the Carta is wandering around and let them kill the bears. Post-Skyhold, I go to the Emerald Graves for great bears and let the giants and other wildlife take them down... or I use that one Gather Materials mission that always drops great bear hide. When I’m a rogue Inquisitor, I can coexist very peaceably with bears. Skirmisher and Shot from the Shadows both grant permanent stealth, so I can hang out with them as long as I want. The only situation where there’s a problem is when those diabolical fennecs snitch on me with their Perceptive trait. Then, suddenly, my new bear friend wants to eat me.

You know, on one hand I feel bad for Fennecs for being unfortunate victims of Chain Lightning, but then things like that happen and I don't feel that bad. Unless said Chain Lighting hits something much, much worse thanks to Fennecs. Then I feel bad for whole different reason.
