I just wrapped up a DAI playthrough after having not played Dragon Age for years. I haven't followed up here much but I'm getting the impression it won't be out for a while.
Well, shit. What have I done to myself D:
*starts another playthrough... maybe Female Elf... *

I was worried my wording was asking for something too specific. I appreciate the response nonetheless. Hopefully things work out for where you plan on taking the games combat. Good luck to you and your team. For the sake of posterity, I'm the lead for RPG/Progression not Combat - they're very related and I work with them daily but I don't own the vision if that makes sense. I did however do both back when our team was much smaller so it makes sense to have thought that Could you tell us a little about what your job entails now?

Luckily, I have mods this time around so at least I can get it in with Cullen after Solas dumps me.

I did however do both back when our team was much smaller so it makes sense to have thought that Could you tell us a little about what your job entails now? I was going to ask if you mean what types of things are RPG/Prog or what I specifically do but I'll guess the answer will be both so I'll try to give you the tl;dr version:
What is RPG/Prog? The first important thing is that this refers specifically to the systems, math, level-up flow and the like - it doesn't have anything to do with role playing in the character immersion sense (quite the misnomer, I know).
If you think about the split between Combat and RPG as: Combat = moment to moment and RPG = hour to hour+ (days, months, as well). So this encompasses a LOT of different - but ideally cohesive - systems: damage calcs, balance, items...etc. Basically anything that has player facing numbers in it falls under my umbrella.
What do I do? Lot of feature pitches and docs, reviews, planning, presentations, and vision ownership/evangelizing. I do a LOT of coordinating with other teams to flesh out features and how it all coalesces in to a single product that meets our vision. I used to do a lot of prototyping but now I mostly work in google sheets and slides .

Because you can't pause an online game lol, at best they can have a slow motion effect during combat, and considering how they dumb the companion tactics with each game I do not have high hopes for combat, though I'm more concerned about story and impact of choices in a live service, "quests that could change based not just on one player’s decisions, but on the choices of players across the globe." is the biggest turnoff.

Thanks for going over both! I had a vague sense of what RPG/Prog was, but this is much clearer. And I wasn't sure at all what the day-to-day entailed (other than maybe "spreadsheets" ).

I think all DA games did very well on progression with the maximum level of around 25. There are other games with a max level of >50 and they make me feel grinding.

MEA's combat got kinda samey after a while with only having two powers to choose from - plus squad mates were useless.
We should go back to the glorious days of pause with DA4.

You mean 3 powers per 4 profiles? Squadmates are more useful than in ME3 (I just played it a bit) as there is no shared cooldown. I play without pause I dont think pause will be back in ME series anymore, and I hope it wont. Breaks the flow of play/combat very badly if used. For me it was ok in the first one but still played mostly without pausing and most of the playthroughs. In DA I hope it stays though, there are more strategic playstyles available through that and being less speedy combat gameplay... but I dont know, I would maybe take more realtime oriented combat too. In my opinion it wasnt much possible in DAI even available, maybe on easy but beyond that I dunno if I'd try it.

He does that for the characters he plays. He was Ianto Jones in Torchwood and such was the impact of his character that after he was killed off, the fans made a Wall of Ianto Memorial in Cardiff where it was filmed. You have to hand it to Bioware, they do get some quality VAs for Dragon Age.

Nah, he just kissed John Barrowman occasionally and then died horribly. Well he did do a few other things, like break out Captain Jack from the block of concrete he had been encased in. I must admit the character hadn't really impressed me that much until that point, then just as I was beginning to warm to him, they killed him off. I suppose the writer thought he should go out on a high.

Could you tell us a little about what your job entails now?
So, is RPG the team that decides what skills each class gets? Or is that decision made elsewhere, and you're responsible for making them work?
Ok I did NOT realize Solas was such a smooth talker to female elves like... I ... I see why the Solas fandom is so ... Is he? I don't see it. Yes.
