There were party members in DA2 besides Varric, Fenris, and Anders?

Summerfall Studios @summerfallgamesWe'll be starting our Dragon Age: Origins developer commentary stream with @davidgaider (now!) I enjoyed this immensely! It was fun! For folks who missed the end: Liam will be playing every Friday night from 5-7 pm Pacific Time. David Gaider will be on to offer commentary every other Friday. (So his next appearance will be October 9.) On Liam and David Fridays, they are playing a male human mage. The Fridays when David is not on, Liam will be doing a different (as yet undecided) origin, and he will have various guests to accompany him. He says some of them may be people we know, and others will certainly be people we don't know. What they'll have in common is that Dragon Age has been impactful to their lives in some way. They may sometimes have other devs who work on/have worked on Dragon Age. Karin and Patrick Weekes are almost certain to show up sometime. But that will usually be on Fridays that David is around, too, so they can talk about working on Dragon Age together. (MY NOTE: Don't expect to hear anything about DA4 that BioWare devs can't speak about due to NDAs.) It sounds like once they are done playing through Origins, they'll go on to DA2 and then DAI.

David Gaider @davidgaiderFirst stream for Dragon Age: Origins is complete! That was quite a lot of fun. @liamesler will be back again next week, while I'll return in two weeks to tell DA development stories over top of Liam's attempt at legitimate play - we'll see how long that lasts.

Looks like they removed their video of them playing BG. Hope they don’t do that to all the videos once the next stream is up. Due to time differences I can’t watch Live and I’ll most likely forget to watch the VOD from time to time. I would hate to miss out on future episodes because I forgot one week.

I hate it when let's plays do that. Even if it isn't the latest video they've uploaded, it can be a consistent, yet small, income drip, when someone new discovers your channel and your backlog of 1k+ playthrough videos. Why would one delete them?

Enjoyed the DAO stream. One item that stood out is that DAO's engine initially didn't have a dialogue system because the person who was in charge of the engine thought that Bioware shouldn't be making rpgs!

I was kind of surprised by their reasoning for including Oghren in DAA. I always sort of expected it was because people typically do Orzammar kind of late in the playthrough, so they didn't have him as long as the others.
Also really surprised that only ~ 20-25% of buyers actually finished the game. Not surprised that a lot of them dropped out during the fade sequence.

Since everyone else is doing it: 1. Merrill 2. Aveline 3. Bethany 4. Tallis 5. Sebastian 6. Fenris 7. Carver 8. Varric 9. Isabbela 10. Anders I ALMOST agree with this list, except I'd do it slightly differently 1. Merrill 2. Varric 3. Aveline 4. Bethany 5. Tallis 6. Isabella 7. Fenris 8. Sebastian 9. Anders 10. Carver Honestly.... 6 - 8 is really interchangeable between the three of them. Didn't hate any of them, but I found them as "meh".

I believe David Gaider said 20-25% completion rate was actually pretty high, so I wonder what the numbers are for other BioWare games or just games in general. I've heard statements thrown around casually like "90% of people won't finish games" that are obvious generalizations but maybe not that far from the truth?

That also depends on whether you've actually enabled or disabled the telemetry data and if that's opt-in/out at all.

For DA, the completion rate varied a little by platform, but was around 25% for DA:O, 37% for DA2, and 26% for DAI. About half made it to Skyhold. Here's a list of completion rates posted recently for some other popular PS4 games. TLOU2 is the most completed game on the PS4 at 58%. The Last of Us Part II - 58.0% Final Fantasy VII Remake – 53.3% God of War – 51.8% Marvel’s Spider-Man – 50.7% Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – 50.3% Detroit: Become Human – 49% Ghost of Tsushima – 38.2% Horizon Zero Dawn – 34.5% Days Gone – 34% Death Stranding – 29.3% Red Dead Redemption II – 28.6% EDIT: Kingdom Come: Deliverance - 7%.

EDIT: Kingdom Come: Deliverance - 7%. I really want to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I'm just too intimidated to download it over my 3.2mbps adsl connection. I DL'd Division 2 to play with some friends. It was a week long commitment to download it. As in I left my PC on for a week, downloading it non-stop to get it ready. I don't want to go through that again.

Interesting. Where do you find these numbers? I'd be curious to see The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and FO4 among others. Also if there is a relationship between game length and completion percentage (probably). I'm somewhat surprised at DA2 being the highest for DA games, but I think it is the shortest and with more focus on the main story than the others.

It's a gorgeous game, I installed a number of QoL mods to smooth out the experience... and I still got tired of it after a while. That said, it seems to have a very dedicated fanbase.
