When I was there for WorldCon in 2017 I was hugely impressed and was made to feel very welcome I'm a Swede, if I ever show up Unicephalon will be there to chase me back out of the country while screaming perkele!

My apologies for my earlier slander of Finland. Clearly I was in the wrong. Sheryl Chee @sherylcheeOkay, in my defence, I'm not sure of her exact age anymore. But really not that old. Her intense grandma energy definitely came from past-me thinking of everyone over a certain age as "grandmotherly, with one foot in the grave." I apologize to present-me for past-me. Well, in fairness, that is probably past the life expectancy of most Theodosians. King Caspar Pentaghast is said to have died at the ripe old age of 127, but he was one of those Tolkien-style superhumans that ate dragons for breakfast.

Sheryl Chee @sherylcheeSo, I was reminded recently that Wynne is not that old. Late forties maybe? But when I wrote her I was like, twenty-six. Forty was such a long way off. Everything over forty? GRANDMA. Explains why Wynne has so much old lady energy. Legendary Edition Fem Shep @cubsfanatic76Oh my God. I thought she was in her 60s! She talks like a grandma lol Sheryl Chee @sherylcheeOkay, in my defence, I'm not sure of her exact age anymore. But really not that old. Her intense grandma energy definitely came from past-me thinking of everyone over a certain age as "grandmotherly, with one foot in the grave." I apologize to present-me for past-me. While magic might be able to twist things one way or another what is the standard age of living for roughly 10th century Europe? 40s back then is probably not the same as 40s today. (though in defense of this Dragon Age has always been quite anachronistic) Excluding child mortality, the average lifespan for someone in medieval times was around 55 years old. Note this is still skewed since it counts disease and war. If you survived childhood and avoided those things, you could live into your sixties and maybe even seventies. People always just see the one with all the mortality rates leaving the average in the thirties.

Dont worry, I have had several Swede friends during my life and one of them I met in MEAMP Fun fact, perkele is one of the most satisfying swear words to use. In general Finish is a pretty fun language, sadly I only know very few words. Another fun fact, whenever our butts are kicked out of any hockey competition I always route for you guys, you have a great team.

Wynne was the first female character with grey hair that I ever saw being a badass (followed later by Flemeth), and she’ll always have a place in my heart, accordingly. James Berg @jamesbergcanada*Powerful* old lady energy though David Gaider @davidgaiderIt also explains her magical bosum. John Ebenger @ebengerjohnWynne was supposed to be in her 40's?! Why didn't anybody tell character art!?! David Gaider @davidgaiderIf we're following anime rules, anyone over the age of 20 is basically a wizened crone.

This has to be tongue in cheek surely? A child might think that but a twenty-six year old? Although it does remind me of a young doctor who suggested that I was not as young as I used to be to account for my back problems, prompting a number of joke "over the hill" birthday cards from my work colleagues when I told them. I was 28! Thinking about this, I'm pretty sure DG says that Rhys is nearly 40 when that story is set, which would put Wynne in her late 50's at that time. So, it seems that he did see her as in her late 40's during DAO, which would then make her a late teenager when Rhys was born, which sounds about right. Mind you, this was after her Harrowing at the age of 17 and Aneirin becoming her apprentice 2 years later, so by the time Rhys was born she could have been in her early 20's, pushing her age into early 60's by the time of Asunder. (Mind you WoT2 gets a lot of dates wrong if you compare them with what we are told in game). Appearances aside, because people can age physically at different rates, she does present as someone a lot older than late 40's in DAO but may be that is because I've never "acted my age" and still feel young at heart. While magic might be able to twist things one way or another what is the standard age of living for roughly 10th century Europe? 40s back then is probably not the same as 40s today. A lot depends on what your status is in society. Peasants would have it tough and that might shorten their lifespan. Mages living in the Circle had a fairly pampered existence if you are thinking in purely physical terms but of course this is offset by the mental pressures. Also, something not really brought up again after the Circle origin story is the adverse effect of prolonged lyrium use on mages. There was a mage showing signs of senile dementia that I seem to recall was blamed on lyrium. Dementia can shorten your life because in the end it starts to affect processes that your body usually does automatically, so it effectively "forgets" how to function.

Negative and positive. On the negative front this does add some gloomy forecassts on all the recent departures and what not that keep happening. Sure the end of the year is a time for culling of the heard, but still...and I cannot imagine Covid has made this any easier on them as I have also talked on could also be either contributing to crunch, stress, or just a general re shuffling of priorities. On the positive note though one has to wonder how much things can change. You get smarter you realize mistakes have been made and you work to correct them. Bit distressing that the solution sometimes seems to be 'throw the baby out with the bath water' rather then trusting the people who were there and made the problems not to fix them and move on...which could be giving them too much credit. But really there are signs and comments that EA has at least revevaluated certain things, not the least that the game still isn't even out yet. On the plus side, EA eliminated live service multiplayer to limit the scope of DA4 ... hopefully this will speed development with hopefully less crunch.
A "flawed process". I agree with him and the hockey stick analogy fits. That pivot point comes to life once game content reaches critical mass.... and that's the rub.
We know DA4 was in development hell... we also know that Bio will talk about DA4 in '22. Here, I'm assuming they've reached the pivot point. That's good. The process, however, is probably stilled flawed and that means CRUNCH.
My takeaway from David's video is that there is no solution to this 'flawed'" process... yet. Game content is the "slow" factor. Well, game artists can only complete so many items per week both for concept and production art. Add combat mechanics ( 'cause, you know, one must change them for every new game), balance, pacing, audio synchronization, testing.. etc. If these activities must be done linearly, then yeah... it'll take time to get to that CritMass.
Removal of the "live service elements" helps but the process "remains flawed".... the key to improve the process is to increase the slope of that hockey stick before the pivot point. How to do that, I've got no clue.
Interesting that there is no push by the studio to improve.

GamesBeat: Dragon Age 4 is still more than a year awayventurebeat.com/2022/01/20/dragon-age-4-is-still-more-than-a-year-away/BioWare’s fantasy role-playing franchise is still a long way from its return. Dragon Age 4 is still in the works, but don’t expect to see it for at least a full year from now at the earliest. This is still in line with what I wrote in July about the game launching in 2023. But don’t take that to mean early 2023. A summer release is the earliest possible timeframe for the launch of Dragon Age 4, and even that is a vague hope more than a real target. Freelancer Tom Henderson reiterated this timeline in a tweet today. According to his source, the game has no chance of launching this year. But this isn’t the result of some internal delay or anything — EA has long known that BioWare wasn’t getting it ready for 2022.

That's fine. I would expect it to come out on the PS5 and XBox Series X, and both consoles are still really hard to acquire right now without paying a bundle to scalpers.

That seems about what we had been expecting I think. Once they didn't show anything at 2021 Game Awards, I figured early 2023 was out of the picture. I'm just hoping it doesn't end up a full 10 years from DAI.
