Nice portrait of Solas a wolf-dragon hybrid. I suppose I need my eyes checked, but do I see someone (not bald) riding the Solasdragon?

Dragon Age dev team shirts from Corinne Busche's Twitter I didn't think we'd get a peek at the Dev T-Shirts so soon! Looks like this dragon/wolf(?) was taking styling tips from A Clockwork Orange...

I have terrible eyesight so all I see is horns. I think it could just be one of those accidental things, like Jesus' face in a piece of toast. It took me a while and squinting my eyes before I could see it, so I don't think it is deliberate. I hope so anyway because otherwise who is that weird person?

Well according to him a demon is just a warped spirit, so if you agree with the idea that the elves (or elven gods) were originally spirits that took on material form, then it would be logical to assume that as Solas moved further away from his true self he became a demon. That is also assuming that his true self was essentially a good guy. We should also remember what he says to Lavellan: "I would not have you see what I become." Which seems to suggest he knows that what he intends will irredeemably alter him but he thinks that is necessary to achieve his aims. I've also posted elsewhere my theory that the Dread Wolf has always been the aspect of him that exists in the Fade, partly as a form of protection but also because in some way his spirit has already been altered. Dalish lore says that Fen'Harel stalks the Fade, feasting on unfortunate souls that encounter him there. That suggested to me that in the past Keepers may well have come across him in their dreams, which would make sense because he wanted his enemies to fear him as the Dread Wolf. Then there is that old native American tale of the two wolves, one good and one bad, that compete for control of your spirit and the one that wins is the one you feed. Solas has been feeding the Dread Wolf for a very long time. It could be the thinking behind the original teaser trailer with Solas opposing the Dread Wolf, which has grown immensely over the years. Anyway, the T-shirt seems to confirm what that original teaser trailer showed and also my idea that the next time we confront Solas it will be as the Dread Wolf.

Fen'Harel is also not the devil of their religion, just as Loki is not the devil of Norse mythology - he's a trickster character. Actually Solas pretty much contradicts this idea when he says that he deliberately took on the title of Dread Wolf to terrify his enemies, so he definitely wanted to be seen as more than just a trickster. There is also a piece in WoT about the Fade, where it says that the Dalish believe that Fen'Harel stalks it feeding upon the souls of the dead, which sound more like the devil to me. However, some elves, probably his supporters, did seem to view him more as a trickster. Hence, Felassan's stories which seem to reinforce this idea of him. There is also the elven folktale of a "trickster warrior who fought against tyrants", that we are told about in WoT in the preface to the Canticle of Shartan, that clearly seemed to be hinting at Solas and his rebellion but apparently the Dalish hadn't made the connection, presumably because they don't think of their gods as tyrants so must have thought the story referenced some later era. Still, Fen'Harel did manage to trick two sets of gods into his trap, which the Dalish do remember, so that probably accounts for his title of Trickster or, alternatively, beguiler, something the Devil is also known for.

There is also a piece in WoT about the Fade, where it says that the Dalish believe that Fen'Harel stalks it feeding upon the souls of the dead, which sound more like the devil to me. I think we have to differentiate what Solas actually did from the picture of Fen'Harel as it's mostly the latter I'm arguing is a trickster god (Solas himself we barely know what he was). Like most trickster gods Fen'Harel is described as moving between the borders of good and evil, both in their actions and who they associate with. He's very similar to Loki, the very definition of a trickster god, in that he's described as being "different" and getting along with everyone. Like Loki he caused essentially the end of the world (the creation of the Veil isn't that dissimilar from Ragnarök, which will happen when Loki escapes his imprisonment). The devil is evil for the sake of being evil, because they enjoy trapping and hurting innocents, but Fen'Harel isn't quite described like that - should you be wary of him? Definitely. But he's not described as the originator of all things bad. This is my interpretation of it, likely very colored by being brought up with the Norse myths. I can see why people would see him as a devil-character, I just don't agree personally.

So yeah, definitely think your upbringing is painting your perspective.

On that note to I have often wondered if all of this is intentional parrellels. Like how much of Solas is based generally on trickster gods or how much of him is based off of Loki. After all it is also kind of interesting that he is the 'Dread Wolf' given Fenrir.

The game has a character named Fenris, who explicitly calls out his name as meaning "Little wolf." The writers are absolutely aware. It's likely the whole reason that "fen" apparently translates to "wolf" in both Tevene and Elvhen.
The bigger question I have is whether Fenris has any meaningful connection to the Dread Wolf/Loki parallels, or if they just thought it'd be cool. Fenris is an Elven slave who rebelled against his masters, and Trespasser heavily implies that Solas was the same.
