Turns out Zuckerberg is illegally selling user information AGAIN. Or maybe "still" is more appropriate. Why is anyone still feeding this guy? He obviously doesn't care about regulations or laws. Remember the days when FB required a student ID and you had to be in college to get an account? So, now we (well, "you", because I'm off FB) have our privacy invaded by what's supposed to be trusted source.
Instagram I use sporadically. I have to FB to connect it to, which avoids the constant suggestions of FB friend, or friends of friends or whatever. Still, it's FB and they can track what I do there.
I don't use Chrome, because I dislike it. I use Firefox. Still have a Gmail account that I'm trying to move away from but it's a lengthy process. I'm working on converting over to ProtonMail. I have a Gmail account that I'd like to ditch but right now too many things are tied to it. Plus, I use Google docs, but I know there are alternatives. I remember when Google's motto was "Don't Be Evil". Note that they haven't had that slogan for years, which is telling.
On my Android phone I'm using Signal as a messenger, which is encrypted. It may or may not work as intended because keystrokes are likely tracked for it (and, if I'm being honest, in ProtonMail). Still it's a step in the right direction. I'd love to be able to overwrite Android with a Linux OS but I have those fears that it won't work right. I suppose I could always do a factory reset if I don't like it.
Amazon is the hard one to break from since they're prices are so inexpensive on items of decent quality. Combine that with some really decent Prime shows and I'm stuck. They also bought out a digital comics company called Comixology. I have too many comics invested in that site to drop it.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Comments?

Friends dont let Friends use Facebook software -is a slogan in our friend circle. Same goes for Google stuff.. It takes some effort but one can make it. Convenience must be lowered a lot. Surprisingly Microsoft has been doing much better than others nowadays, that is mostly, if one doesnt use Win10 as-it-is-by-defaults...

Facebook is indeed censoring many stuff and deplatforming many people for BS reasons and "rules". Also as a malicious mega-company it sells your data and let some other companies have access to your PMs. If they cooperate and find the wrong-think faster (cuz in 2018 ideological purity is more important than making money aka get woke go broke), they can even ban people and cleanse the place much easier.

The tracking and storing of information itself was never much of a problem because the bottleneck really used to be anlysis, rather than gathering. You, as an individual would just be hidden in too big a data set, unless you really did something outstanding for legacy analysis tools to pick up on. Yes, you might get some personalized adds and things like that but in general, the algorithms were pretty crude and no one would really use the data on you for anything but few adds because, let's face it, the gain wasn't really worth the trouble. However, this is in the process of changing ... massively. I was just at a conference last year, listening to a talk by a group that uses deep learning AI to analyze cell phone keystrokes of people, suffering from chronic depression and thus getting real time readouts on their mood. Mind you, this AI is fairly unsupervised and it simply analyses key strokes, not content, just the key strokes themselves. From that data alone, after some training time, the AI could predict peoples moods as accurately as the current gold standards of psychological evaluations. This group is using that technology for benevolent purposes and within ethical boundaries. All participants download an app, specifically agree to sending the data and the idea is that if a drop in mood is detected, notifications can be sent through the app to the user or (theoretically and if the patient agrees) relatives/emergency contacts can be notified. However, (and the presenter was very well aware of this and made a point out of it in their last slides), this example goes to show the enormous power of the combination of big data sets, real time information gathering and AI-assisted (or conducted) analysis. Used unethically, we are in for some pretty nasty surprises (think of china's s ocial credits in this context for example) in the very near future, I could imagine. ...But I don't want to panic anyone.

I use Venmo, Robinhood, Gmail, Google Docs, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Whatsapp, Line, and Signal on my Android phone and Chrome. I also have half dozen credit cards that I've saved on my Chrome/Google Pay and Samsung Pay. I use them everyday for purchases in brick-and-mortar stores and online purchases like Amazon, eBay, and Newegg. I surf and download porn with my Chrome everyday while I monitor the stock prices and transfer funds between my bank accounts and my portfolios. My FICO credit score usually hovers around 820 to 850. Ask me anything.

General internet tip: If a service is available for free, that means you are the product.
Hell, even if you pay for the service, odds are you're still the product.

It is based on Chrome minus the spyware and far more customizable with a better built in popup blocker.

Deactivated my Facebook recently, but not because of this. I live in Brazil, so Amazon really has no power here. The only thing I use is Google Chrome and Youtube. But as already said, they don't really collect my data to "spy on me", I'm just a little ant on their scheme.
It all roots down to one thing: as long as profit is the base of our society, this kind of shit will prosper.

Under protest I use Googel, Android, occasionally Amazon & FB for certain groups Never used Instagram, any dating site, any Apple product nor had an iPhone I typically like to write from a mobile platform, such as my phone. I like Google Docs because I can take that anywhere. Trying to make use of Zoho, which I can use online or on my phone. It does sync between platforms so that's decent.
Still stuck on Amazon for now. Would like to find an OS that's not Android for my phone. I know there are some that are Linux-based. If it turned out it sucked I could just do a factory reset. It's something I'd have to think about. I did have a dual boot on my PC years ago but never quite got the hang of Linux.

I hate Jordan Peterson. I agree with a lot of things he says; however, he's known to redefine things to fit his narrative. He does this to "prove" there are no atheists.
Now, back to Google, etc. I tried to make use of MapQuest on my phone to direct me to my newphew's dorm. Keep in mind that it's official address is the name of the dorm. MapQuest couldn't find it. I switched to Google Maps. Found it right away. It's hard to break away from Google when the competitors aren't up to par. (I'm using Firefox. Yes, I know they are both based on Mozilla, but it was Google that adopted it for Chrome. Google didn't create it - instead, it was founded by members of Netscape. Anyone remember that? It was pretty much all there was back in the day. Anyone, I've seen arguments the Mozilla is still Google but that's not the case.
