Because we needed one. Mostly to gush about the race, but if you love the Qun itself - or love to hate it - feel free to rant and rave to your heart's content. Here at Qunari HQ we lay claim to OG Sten, Best Antagonist™️️ the Arishok, The Iron Bull, minor but cool af characters like Maraas, Ketojan, Salit, Rasaan, and Ashaad (and bf Seamus), viddathari like Tallis and Gatt, the Viddasala (unfortunately Gorgon'd by Solas), the Valo-Kas mercs and their leader Shokrakar who provide the best personalized war table missions in the game no contest I will fight anyone, and of course our lofty Inquisitor Adaar who absolutely positively never bonks their horns on low-hanging braziers because that would be undignified.
Scuttlebutt: • Handy Qunlat dictionary if you ever find yourself in Par Vollen or Seheron (protip: do not go to Par Vollen or Seheron) • World of Thedas 2 gives us three Qunari children's stories via The Seer's Yarn, they explain the Qun better than any Qunari character ever has, thank you Tamassrans
• Qunari are hella tall and phwoar, could probably benchpress a Boeing • Something, something, take over the world • Epitome of grace and power, get their horns stuck trying to put on shirts • PYRAMIDS!!! • HOT COCOA!!1 • Probably dragons, their blood is not their own • Taarsidath-an halsaamIf that's not enough to convince you then idk man, fixing your mess is not a demand of the Qun and you should all be grateful I'll just go now, thanks.

*appreciates Qunari*
Um, thread content! Yes!
I think my favourite thing about Qunlat is that two of the very small range of phrases we know translate to 'I will bring myself sexual pleasure later while thinking about this with great respect' and 'we were told there would be cake. This is bullshit!'
I'm not sure either of those will be very helpful to anyone who finds themselves randomly teleported to Par Vollen. Unless they see the Arishok looking particularly fine, or someone offers them cake and then doesn't deliver?

I wonder what happened to Maraas. I can't imagine he would want to stay in Kirkwall after everything went pear-shaped, unless he thought a mercenary would be in high demand because of the chaos that ensued.

I know I'll be making use of both of those phrases when we meet the Stenishok. I wonder what happened to Maraas. I can't imagine he would want to stay in Kirkwall after everything went pear-shaped, unless he thought a mercenary would be in high demand because of the chaos that ensued. Well, if the Valo-Kas end up working for Aveline, there's always a chance he got in on that. Otherwise I could see him staying in the Free Marches. In world states where there's conflict between Kirkwall and Starkhaven, I'm sure there's a high demand for mercenaries.

My favorite qunari I've always harbored a lil crush for that guy lol I just started playing a qunari inquisitor, my first! And I'm loving it. She practically sprints across the battlefield; it's amazing! She's a mage, and I think she'll romance Josie. As for The Iron Bull, he was actually my first romance, and I grow more and more in love with him with each playthrough. He is such a wonderful, thoughtful guy, so much more than he appears. (Here's my qunari inquisitor, Adell Adaar:) We sure got shafted in terms of qunari hair, and is there anything uglier than the default vitaar? Thank god for mods. Though now I don't know whether I'll take her through Trespasser since they don't work there.

Seconding everything about Bull. Quite possibly my favorite character in the franchise. I feel you on vitaar. Helmets are always invisible on my playthroughs for that reason alone. Was Seamus really in a romantic relationship with him? No idea. That subtext sure was texty, though.

I always assumed they were a pair, ever since I first encountered them. Sure, the bandit gal makes that crass comment, but Saemus and Ashaad meet on the beach, regularly, alone, and... talk. Were sexual things going on? No idea and don't think it's really relevant. I think it's clear they were curious about each other and grew to care about each other a great deal. I certainly don't think Saemus was just being a rebellious brat. Maybe at first, but it's not like he dumped Ashaad and started rebelling in other ways. No, he kept visiting with him. And I hardly imagine the Arishok commanded Ashaad to meet with Saemus - seems he was doing it on his own free will (shocking! Very un-Qun-like! Bad Ashaad, bad!). So the subtext is definitely there, and I hate how tragic it is. It was very romantic, and would have been a sweet (and less violent) way for the two cultures to interact and learn about one another. And thanks (about Adell); she looks like a beast but she's a kitten haha She's very thoughtful and slow to anger, very level-headed. Maybe the PC I've played who's most ready to become inquisitor!

I believe you take a quest directly from... um... what's his title? The king/prince/leader guy. Bald guy with the crown? LOL He sends you on a quest to retrieve his son, and you find Saemus on the beach beside Ashaad's dead body (he's been killed by the awful mercenary lady).

Since what I saw on games (I basically never read what Qun is or read it and forget pretty fast) how some characters react and how Qunari goes on the wars with it.... just want your opinion! dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Qun

Since what I saw on games (I basically never read what Qun is or read it and forget pretty fast) how some characters react and how Qunari goes on the wars with it.... just want your opinion! dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/QunHmm, not a fan to be honest. I enjoy the discussion(s?) Solas and Bull have, and I tend to side with Solas. Bull claims that there's no difference between a baker in Seheron and a baker in Orlais. Both are working hard every day and not thinking about "being free." Dorian makes a similar comparison between a slave in Tevinter and an elf in a southern alienage. But I disagree with them both. There is a difference. Freedom is important at its most basic level. A human being needs the freedom to choose basic elements in their life: do they want to be a teacher or a soldier or a baker? Just because the elf in the alienage also may not have that level of freedom doesn't mean it's okay. It just means that life in the qun, life for a slave in Tevinter, and life in an alienage are all on some level undesirable. Bull points out (and so does Gatt) that the Qun can help you, can give you purpose, can soothe a lost soul or a wounded mind. Sure, I suppose, in the same way religion can soothe our fears about death or our purpose in life. But that doesn't make it true or right. We are still going to die. Isn't it better to acknowledge that and live your life accordingly rather than lie to yourself about some imaginary afterlife?

Pros: * Equality. The Qun does not give a crap about race or who your parents were. The Qun won't force you to rot away in the gutter because you have pointy ears, or because you came out of the wrong vagina. * They don't have a stupidly selfish noble class fucking everything up. * Every position in the Qun is valued. Cons: * Their treatment of mages is extremely inhumane. * I read coddex for the re-educators, it sounds like psychological torture. * If the Qun is the true path then you wouldn't need to force people to belong to it through the sword.

The Qun? Lots of Ben-Hassholes. No room for individuality. Sucks to be a mage. On the other hand... nobody starves in the streets. Actual medical and scientific advancements. No one is ever alone.
But rly, no thanks. Way too much deliberate brainwashing. Callous disregard for feels.

It's like it's trying to say that you can't have things like universal healthcare, scientific advancement, equality in education, etc. without the society being 100% rigid and devoid of personal freedom. And the characters argue about it the same way some people argue about such things today in real life: "I support access to healthcare for all!" "Oh so you want to live in a SOCIALIST SOCIETY WHERE THE GOVERNMENT OWNS YOUR MIND AND YOUR SOUL?" "Um... no..." Stupid Qun lol

It always bugged me that a mage Hawke couldn't challenge Tallis on what life under the Qun would mean for them. Or can you and I missed it? I just played MotA again and you are right, you can't do that. You can however tell her, what you personally think about the Qun. I told her, that the Qun was crap (basically) , but helped her nontheless, because that list in the wrong hands would have really meant the death of innocents. About the question, what I think of the Qun, I agree with Artemis and @theloneshadow . It has some good sides, like equality and care for all, but those are feats, that should be able to get accomplished without losing your personal freedom, so I'm not a big fan. That doesn't mean, that I can't like Qunari characters in the game, but usually guys like the Arishok get a wtf? stance from me, because I don't get them (somehow my Hawkes usually get the baasalit'an achievment, simply because they act decent)
