Looks appropriately over the top and violent. My only concern is I don't want Doom style arenas for levels. I want the areas to be somewhat realistic like the first game. This looks like pure fantasy land. They switched to UE4 for this so I wonder if that'll affect gameplay. Movement speed looks slower than SW2.

It’s a $10 spike for basically nothing at all. It being next-gen doesn’t really add much value in and of itself, especially since other developers are not imposing any such hike to upgrade. I’m not surprised that they’re testing it, but my hope, as small and likely doomed as it is, is that this test fails miserably. Unfortunately, TakeTwo know full well there’s plenty of suckers lined up that’ll eat it up and prove it to be a success. For AAA games right off the bat it means upgraded art assets and therefore more staff, which means more salary, which means a higher budget for games. When going from the PS3 to the PS4 era, some developers were talking about having to double their budget for models and the same was for the step between PS2 to PS3. Frankly I don't mind an increased price point for AAA games because that means more room for AA games to breathe. It means the games with the highest budget can be priced highest and there's room underneath for smaller studios to still price their games at a point which doesn't compete with AAA games and allows them to recoup some costs. Right now smaller studios are having their games compete with AAA games and it's driving studios out. And yet all the while, costs for packaging and distribution of physical media greatly diminishes with more and more people going digital, and now the consoles themselves pushing that initiative even further. I don’t believe I’ll be buying any publisher or developer’s phony-baloney sob stories about the rising costs of game development, not when they’re so dead set on retaining their premium pricing while also padding their revenue through recurrent consumer spending. As for AA games, that doesn’t seem like a situation that at all benefits players. That just sounds like some may be settling for something slightly cheaper, rather than overall value of next-gen titles being greater. I look forward to seeing how many titles end up getting the price hike, and how many decide to wait for its inevitable price drop. With Cyberpunk getting its free upgrade to PS5, and some others likely to do the same, I can see a lot of people just waiting them out and avoiding the full retail altogether.

With Cyberpunk getting its free upgrade to PS5, and some others likely to do the same, I can see a lot of people just waiting them out and avoiding the full retail altogether. I think it would take the full generation to see all game prices increase by the $10 if it happens for it won't happen overnight, for they will start with the ones they know will sell big to get the most amount of people used to it and then slowly bring up the smaller selling titles. My guess is the price hike has the most to do with 4K and getting games to work at that resolution for that is meaning more artists are required to generate proper 4K resolutions for they need to spend more time per asset. That is where the problem is with prices is the loud chants of 4K is driving developer to that and if they stayed at the 1080 route I think they could hold off the price hike. When you have studios talking about 1,000 or more people working on a game that is just driving the development cost up and why you don't see nearly as many titles as in the past or nearly as many risks everything has started to feel the same because they need to sell millions of copies now. I cannot seem to find the AskAGameDev post, but if I recall correctly back in the SNES days it was 10-20 people that worked on a game, but every console generation seemed to at least double that number. Maybe if players didn't throw temper tantrums when they didn't get everything they wanted in a game it wouldn't be a problem, but when you have people still whining about the facial animations of Mass Effect: Andromeda or the attacks on The Order: 1889 when it was only about 10 hours long so there is a trend which pushes developers and publishers to spend more and more money to make a game. We will see what happens with the games and the systems inside of them, but I would much rather have a higher price point for a game then have MTX in the game or season passes pushed on me.

My guess is the price hike has the most to do with 4K You can take a 1080p texture and upscale it, almost to at no extra work, through nvidia's upscalling algorithm, which has a name that evades me at the moment, or even the the Gigapixel upscaler. You can make incredibly accurate 4k texture stuff for 0 manpower and just have your PC render stuff. With powerful enough workstations, you could do those overnight and have enough CPU left over to continue work, while the upscaler renders, with a 3950x and a 2080 super. I would assume the $1b EA makes per quarter are enough to fund Bioware's new studio with cutting edge tech, at least, so that this workload isn't a problem.

I suspect you'll see those anyway. In the case of season passes in particular, I would simply expect them to also become more expensive.

Though some season passes are OK bu i tlargel ydepensd on wha tthe yincdlued for example I thought Shadow o fthe TR's was good as it gives yo uextra outfits for Lara to wear an extra 7 hours of gameplay with extra tombs and quests to solve as wel as a fwe extra weapons too. It depends on the quality you are looking for as well. I am not sure if you played Command and Conquer Remastered, but they had to upscale the cinematics because the originals were lost and the quality isn't the greatest and isn't consistant. Of course its not 1080p to 4k, but I bet there are going to be plenty of people that can notice the difference from an upscaled graphics to something that is native.

I bet there are going to be plenty of people that can notice the difference from an upscaled graphics to something that is native. As the tech progresses and the algorithm improves, I suspect it's going to be a lot better and faster, in the coming years. DLSS 2.0 does such a good job of upscaling to 4k that it is virtually indistinguishable from native 4k, right now, in real time. Not to mention that, as with most companies, they have huge repositories of assets for their engines that they can tap into, to make their next games. Ranging from character models, to textures, props, environments etc. Costs of game development are about to go down a lot, with automation taking over for artists. You can feed an AI with 50k hours worth of level design and the AI will learn how to train itself to design better stages, itself. That is when EA might remake ME.

Oh ffs. Forcing the issue with arbitrary rules isn't going to help. Such a subtle, gentle and sensible approach on promoting gender and racial equality, that is surely going to calm the already emotionally charged situation and will lead to understanding and happiness on all sides. Just like mixing nitro glycerin and gasoline with a cocktail shaker. Oh yes.

Studios are likely going to be better off just making a good game. It's not like the people that come up with this kind of insanity or wail for it on some social media cesspit are buying their product anyway.
For those devs that decide to go with this, let's hope they'll find enough diversity hires to make my medieval strategy game where my squad of Teutonic Knights is made up of 50% women, some of them women of colour and/or LGBT, and some guys walking on crutches, as they bravely set out to overthrow the church and nobility to finally bring the highly diverse peasantry to power...
Can't wait.

What if a game company from Dubai makes a game filled with gay middle eastern people, set in Dubai, made by middle eastern people, with barely any white people in game or on the team, and no straight romances. Does it still qualify as there's no diversity? Or is it just simply 'you need x amount of not white not straight people pls'
Ok I'm playing devil's advocate but this thing is so silly, you'll end up with folks being hired purely based on the colour of their skin, or their diversity, just to make up the numbers. Then that will lead to folks thinking any person of colour or diversity in a game studio was a strategic hire and wouldn't get the job otherwise, which will the devalue the ones who are truly good at their jobs and got it on merit alone.
TL:DR This is dumb and just demeans the very crusade they're trying to piggy back on.

The summary that was made for the video I think is the problem that might happen if developers try for this award still.

What if a game company from Dubai makes a game filled with gay middle eastern people, set in Dubai, made by middle eastern people, with barely any white people in game or on the team, and no straight romances. Does it still qualify as there's no diversity? Or is it just simply 'you need x amount of not white not straight people pls' Ok I'm playing devil's advocate but this thing is so silly, you'll end up with folks being hired purely based on the colour of their skin, or their diversity, just to make up the numbers. I agree. There is nothing wrong for acknowledging how inclusive a game is, but that level of a checklist to even be recognized just seems to be on the extreme side to me especially if developers aim to achieve that checklist for I don't see how that would cause a positive result.

Tell me this is a joke! They can't be serious...
If they want to create a society of incompetence, this is how you do it. Let's hire people based on quotas (which is already happening!) and idealogy rather than talent. And when the result is a shit product, blame the consumer.
Sounds legit!
