Sony don't appear to have done so at least not completely anyway. Though judging b yth efact that Microsoft are kind of doing away with exclusoives next gen given even Halo iscoming to PC now i tlookslik eat leas tthe ydon' tcaer any moer about warring with other systems.
The XBOX to PC thing isn't what's worth taking note of this gen. Microsoft has a huge install base in the PC market of course they're not going to mind XBOX games going to PC, that's hardly surprising. It's the streaming aspect of the new XBOX that has everyone paying attention.
Game streaming is touted as the next big thing and everyone is rushing to get a piece of the pie *looks at Stadia*, and Microsoft is no different with their game pass. So when Microsoft was showcasing all the new games for XBOX and making it clear that every single one of those games would make it to Game Pass on day one, it was pretty clear that Microsoft are looking to push with their new XBOX Series ... X I think their Game Pass streaming model.
It's not a battle of consoles, Microsoft aren't interested at that. Microsoft want you to sign up to their streaming service and they will be pushing it aggressively going forward.
So just like it was this gen this is very much a battle of ideologies imo. Once again Sony offers an excellent, traditional console experience while Microsoft is offering their vision of the future of gaming. Netflix for gaming? Woooooowwwww.
It may appeal to people who are getting tired of forking out 70 dollars for a game, but I'm at the stage in my life where I have the money and would rather I own most of my games outright thank you very much.
Yeah I don' t really care too much about exclusivity it's part of gaming culture and I'm not going to let Spidey ruin my opportunity to enjoy what looks like a good game either tbh. If I can't play with him because I've chosen the PC vresion then so be it I'm no tgoing to rob myself of the opportunity of playing with the other heroes. Hopefully it's just a timed exclusive and eventually everyone wil get to play with him. By that I mean hopefully those that are on Xbox and PC will just have to wait a bit longer like when Playstation had to wait an extra year to play Rise of the Tomb Raider. I doubt Sony would be able to stop Marvel from keeping Spidey off the other systems altogether given Spidey is Marvel's creation so technically they own him. Sony only have a license to use him in movies and games at Marvel's discretion. Similar to how Codemastres for example has an official license to make F1 games and EA has a Star Wars license.
Who's the Publisher of the Avengers game? Square Enix. Sooooooo... it might possibly be an actual exclusive.
EDIT: Went and looked around a little and apparently this specific version of the Spiderman might be intellectual property created specifically from Sony's films, and therefore Sony might have a little more leverage to push there.
Is it a new Spider-Man or is it the one from Insomniac?

The one from Insomniac. Though they said that the Avengers game would be their own interpretation and would be different to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's clear just looking at the game that they take from the Cinematic Universe and the movies. Which might be utilising intellectual property Sony has rights to which Sony might have used as leverage to push for a PS4 exclusive.
Mass Effect Trilogy, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age Inquisition, KOTOR, Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect Andromeda, Anthem, Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Well tecvhnicaslly Marvel owns Spoiderman so the ycall the shots in truth though so we'll see. So in truth you can' t count anything out. TBH though it doesn't bothe rme either way. I wasjus tpointing thefact i tcouild be just a timed thing. As thereis no proof yet to suggest it isn't as far as I know. We only know it'll be an exclusive to start with Whilst it would be nice to have him added later to the PC/Xbox rosters later so the rest of us can use him it would be great but if it doesn' thappen then it doesn't happen. I'll just enjoy the game with the characters I do have the ability to play with.

Licensing deals are quite a bit more complicated than "XYZ owns the original idea, so they get final say". Marvel essentially ceded all control over Spider-Man's depiction in film and video games to Sony, in exchange for a great deal of money.
If it were simply a matter of Marvel (really Disney) still being allowed to do whatever they wanted, or tell license holders what to do, or getting 'final say', they would not have needed to BUY 20th Century Fox, (the holders of the X-men and Fantastic Four licenses), and they would not have needed to divorce MCU Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch from their X-Men origins, nor would they have needed to negotiate with Sony to include Spider-Man.

Maybe but because we don't know the full details I think we aer in await an dsee moment and in time moer details will hopefully drop asto the extent of this deal especially given it has angered some people s oit may be that Marvel and Sony will haveto make a public statement on it. Time will tell. Either way I'll be sticking with the PC version and I'll play with what heroes do come my way.
Seems like EA Games is doing some cleaning out of their vaults as they put more than 60 games on sale ranging from 50 percent to 85 percent off the original prices. We’re talking Anthem for $8.99, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for $26.99, and the entire Mass Effect Trilogy for $11.99.
The sale is running until August 18 and for select games, you can get an additional 10 percent off using the promo code EASALE.
Anyone can tell me what are "loyalty editions"? While checking out Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it appeared as an option (the only one not discounted). It disappeared the second time I opened the store, but now I'm curious (I'm out of loop with Origin stuff).

Doesn't look like the code is working, but Jedi: Fallen Order for 50% off seems like a good deal to me anyway. I wonder if it's worth getting Battlefront II now. Does it have any good maps for co-op against bots?
Of all the things I've seen on the battlefields of the Frontier, the Pilot is the true dominant force.

There are all kinsd of mapsso I'm sure you'd find one or 2 to your liking

I am not seeing anything about a loyalty edition and I haven't ever heard of such an edition. Can you provide a direct link?

That's the thing, I can't provide direct link, since after I tried to check what's in that edition and returned to store, it wasn't appearing for me anymore. Thus I asked. The only thing I found after googling was Battlefield V loyalty edition being just standard edition + currency, so I wouldn't be surprised if Fallen Order was similar.
Wasn't even that interested in it, I'm just wondering why it appeared the first time I entered store and then disappeared ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I thought EA Loyalty Editions were available to those who had the previous game in a series? Eg. If you had bought FIFA 19, you could buy FIFA 20 Loyalty Edition at a discounted price and a few perks. Do you own another SW game? Maybe it was just a glitch.

I don't know a single thing about loyalty editions, that's why I asked I don't have other SW games, so it was most likely a glitch. Now I'll be wondering what would happen if I attempted buying glitched edition.

With Jason Schreier I am all for him bringing a light to crunch, but I want him to treat all studios the same. Some of his articles about BioWare don't feel like he is holding BioWare to the same standard he holds other studios to. Especially during the Inquisition article he references his book about the problems of Frostbite. Its been awhile, but the way I remember Jason Schreier's article about the crunch at BioWare he never gave numbers of what the crunch was all he did use was terms to get people more emotionally attached without being accurate. I know I am being hard on Jason Schreier right now, but its a problem I have with a lot of coverage of the game industry is that it doesn't feel consistent so I really don't care what people are saying the most of the time because I feel it is driven too much by outside forces instead of trying to let the piece stand on its own. I even made comments on different places that covered the Gigaleak from Nintendo commenting how big a hypocrite they were being about the horrible practices of game development are and they decided to skirt the law by posting direct tweets of the articles showing the stolen information.
What made me respect Schreier was how in every interview he pestered Marcin Iwinski (co-founder of CDPR) about crunch in his studio, even though it was clear Iwinski would rather not talk about it. However Cyberpunk 2077 ends up doing, I'm really hoping someone if not Schreier will manage to write an expose about what's been going on behind the scenes. A game that's been in some form of development for over eight years, that's been delayed multiple times and seen a revolving door of people working on it, from a developer with no major releases in the last half decade and which has apparently massively overworked employees throughout? That screams loads of unseen troubles.
I'm pretty sure gamers will ignore it because CDPR are the good guys. You think Yongyea will cover this?
We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.
We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.
We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.
Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.”
I'm genuinely curious how this will pan out, given that, historically, for all their bluster, "gamers" can't even stop a single youtube lady from making videos they don't like.
If they do end up being the thing that sinks Donald Trump, that will be very funny indeed.
Sam Dean Eagle @samaugustdean Video game companies owned by Tencent will NOT be affected by this executive order!
White House official confirmed to the LA Times that the EO only blocks transactions related to WeChat
So Riot Games (League of Legends), Epic Games (Fortnite), et al are safe
(pending updates)
This was pretty much impossible to tell from the EO itself—I also had a Astonished face moment that they were roping in Riot et al when I first read it—but "we just mean WeChat" is the WH line for tonight.
But banning all transactions on/with WeChat alone is still WILD.
