Today in Anthem: Anthem had begun feeling like a job , so I started playing 'Thronebreaker'. Something completely different, but it feels so refreshing. Thrilling, even, simply to use my brain and to experience storytelling again! After this, I have Hellblade, Quantum break, Inside, Technomancer and Destiny 2 new light all lined up from free games with gold or super cheap sales that I bought earlier. And maybe by when these are finished, GoW5 and MHW iceborne will be on sale or something. Goodbyyyyyeee Anthem (for now)! Hahaha, good on you for branching out! I did the same thing months ago, coming back to Anthem for a bit to play Cataclysm's story. I've been playing Borderlands 3, Gears 5 and Destiny Shadowkeep since then. I still don't feel I got what I wanted out out Anthem and maybe some day I'll be back, but if Cataclysm's player base is like it was a few weeks ago I don't want to play it anymore. I'll just stick to Free play or other activities. I thought toxicity only existed in Destiny, but damn, I was wrong. I’ll be the first to admit i could be toxic towards noobs doing the cataclysm in the end. But it’s BW’s fauly for making it so convoluted that pugs can be a nightmare for experienced players...

I can't speak from much personal experience, but in my rando teams the Colossus tend to get their ass handed to them from the Unfathomable in Sunken Cell because they can't dodge. In my opinion that's just another result of the simplicity of the Colossus. Because these players probably don't know anything else but to get in close and melee/combo and obviously that doesn't work so well with bosses, especially if they have attacks that can easily kill even the strongest ones with one hit. All other Javelins usually have to be more versatile and adapt to different situations and damage more in different ways. A better Colossus player like the very few I know and have played Cataclysm with would be prepared for all situations and bring a good single target weapon to a boss fight and keep some distance for example. I still have a lot of challenges left until I can finally delete him and scrap all the gear. Still need 2 weapons and 2 abilities to actually drop for me for the challenges. I thought toxicity only existed in Destiny, but damn, I was wrong. Toxicity exists in pretty much every (online) game. It's more a matter of "how much" and "how strong" usually. And the younger the playerbase, the more annoying it usually is. I mean I get pissed a lot as well whenever I (am forced to) play public and people who don't know much at all and are undergeared or don't run useful builds (yes, you actually can be 920-930 and be totally useless; I have done builds like that just for fun to understand better) join the game - the difference is though that I usually curse Bioware for not letting me put the game into private mode and then put the players on my evergrowing ignore list. But I don't send them messages or insult them over ingame voice chat or something. The problem with Anthem (and some other games like that as well) is that the matchmaking just sucks. There should be additional options so there's a better chance that people get matched that get along better with each other. If you are absent from the game for a while, don't educate yourself on the newest things and maybe have only played 10% the time some other players you get paired with have put into the game then it's a recipe for desaster if these different types of players get matched with each other, especially in something like the cataclysm event that basically just requires people to learn how certain things work. Not talking about Top 10 players level here either... just "normal" runs in which maybe 2 people have already done some runs, know some secrets, maybe read a guide, watched some videos or discussed things with other people - and 2 people who know nothing, just head off and do whatever they like, maybe get in the way of the others who try to do the puzzles, pick up stuff too early, go kill Vara after 3 events and shit like that. Games like this are not really casual games. That doesn't mean they can't be played and enjoyed by these types of players as well. But the matchmaking has to account for that and either implement advanced search functions for players to select and/or have some things working in the background (like maybe not matching a player with 1000h of playtime with one that has only 100h but plays the same difficulty).

Last night I got the Legendary Freelancer challenge done and now I have only the remaining Storm and Colossus gear challenges left to grind. Will take a couple hundred World Events though I guess and there is no real reward other than unlocking the useless option to craft masterworks versions and the good feeling to have everything done there is... About Hellblade... I wrote my opinion in the ME3MP forums in a certain thread after I finished playing it. If anybody wants to take a look you can find it here in this post

Oh BioWare … time for another round of server mx … ELPD (error loading pilot data) was off the charts today.
Pretty sure it wasn't just me … didn't have a single stronghold or a contract mission that started and ended with the same folks.
A bit different today … some of them went quite a while before I was yanked back to the loading screen.
Enough time to where I was able to fly halfway across the map, kill mooks and collect loot.
I even got jerked from the same stronghold twice.
And the bad accounting continues … got two combo completion banners in the same match.

On XBox I Quickplay all the time in GM3 and rarely run into players so bad I notice or need to say something. I have stopped reviving in some Strongholds if the same player keeps dying, but usually they persist and its not much of a distraction. I have run into other players who have complained because I didn't let enemy waves spawn, or didn't end a cutscene. I put them on the block list, but that's a grand total of 2. P.S. Hopefully I'm not falling into that video game trap: "If you don't know who the annoying rando is, it's you."

Today I finished the last ~80 needed world events for the last remaining Colossus gear challenges. I got all challenges done now. Finally. Can't say I enjoyed grinding out the Storm and especially the Colossus challenges. Glad everything is done now. Also bought the Scout Armor with coins even though I want 3 other Ranger armors actually. Anyways... looking forward to playing Interceptor and some Ranger again after hundreds of world events with Storm and Colossus.

I played it a ton and didn't get all challenges either. It's not much of a "challenge", more just a time sink. But each feels reward in their own way. If you like such stuff, knock yourself out The thing is, the reward ( being able to craft masterworks) means nothing by the time you've finished it, so... it's pointless.

I kinda feel like I'm wasting money, having bought a game and not been playing it and/or missing out on some really cool stuff...But what I'm really interested in and waiting for is for the Devs to continue the Story. I can't usually find people to play with so doing Freeplay etc gets kinda dull after a few minutes, and wandering the Fort is 'been there, done that 20,000x over' so right now I don't feel there is much to pull me back in.
If I could find more people to play with, or the people on my Friends list would come back online (because they're always fun to team up with) it would be more enjoyable. But right now....I'm not sure.
I find I am more interested in JEDI: Fallen Order than returning to ANTHEM at the moment....though I am concerned about how that game will play on PC. Everything I have seen leads me to believe it was mainly designed and marketed towards being played on a Console. I question what the controls for KB/M are going to play and feel like when there seems to be so much stuff that can be done; scrambling across a keyboard vs. button mashing, which is easier? It does look like an interesting game though, and the first I have played since the days of Jedi Academy from Lucas Arts circa 2003.

Played some "casual cata" today. First time in weeks (the night before it was supposed to end was the last time I had played Cata). Messed up the timing with the Valks quite a bit but it was just for the crystals and hey... I got 2 nice things out of the boxes. A Ranger support gear item with 35% + 19% Combo Imp Damage. And I also might have to pick up playing Storm again as I got a 200% Damage + 100% Charges Steam Vent which was basically the only thing that could bring me to play some more Storm after I did all the challenges recently...

Btw, don't bother BW Austin right now. They have the new mini SWTOR expansion to give us. Better than nothing.

Thanks. But I probably shouldn't tell you about my 225% Damage + 100% Charges Binary Star that dropped in my second game I played after getting that Steam Vent? It's crazy because those 2 items were basically the deciding factor if I'd play Storm some more, especially SV. As in: I will just buy several of each non-jav-specific war chests and see what I get and if I get a Steam Vent while I'm at it and it's decent I might play some more Storm. My Storm is still really really squishy though right now and is running with 6 universal components (because I don't have only gotten 2 Storm components and they suck) but I managed to do a GM3 Heart Of Rage solo up until the Furies when a friend joined and then some two randos. Probably would not have beaten The Monior solo. I could improve with inscriptions on the melee weapon and support gear but that means playing more Cataclysm for crystals first and getting lucky with the loot from the chests again.

I did the season of skulls last night right after the servers came back up. It's more of the same halfway genius, halfways "oh god bioware why?" moments bioware loves to bring. Overall, the game seems very responsive. Both in menus and in game. Could be because I hadn't played in a while, but I feel like they made the game more stable. So Fort Tarsis is decorated a bit. Cute. So this is a halloween event, basically? Ah well, somethign different to look at for a change I suppose. But it could have done with some more introduction. yesterday I had no idea what was goign on when I started up the game, until I read the post on the anthem site this morning. At first I started up the skull cataclysm. Basically, it's the same cataclysm map (with the same secrets), but you are started in another location (sea of takaro). Needless to say, I was very VERY confused as this started up since bioware had provided zero explanation. Also, the cataclysm now has scar enemies (WHAT's YOUR PROBLEM WITH OUTLAWS, BIOWARE?!) instead of dominion. Oh, and there are only 3 events active (sea of takaro, diana's landing, and casja's forge), so you're not going to score a lot of points. All in all, it's a new enemy to obliterate in the cataclysm, sure, but this won't stay fresh long as you'll STILL be having to gather the same puzzles again and again and again... The shop still has the same item lootboxes it had from during the cataclysm, so why on god's green earth your previous crystals wouldn't be able to be transferred to this event is beyond me (actually, no, I get it, but it's a stupid reason). Everything seems priced in minor crystals now though, so that's something, at least. Vanity is a back, yay. Legendary rate from boxes is increased by 250%, so if it was 10% before, it should be 1/3 (35%) chance for a legendary from a box now. That's an improvement (although boxes have been made about twice as expensive). There's also a legendary only box that always gives a legendary (but is indiscriminate in type of item or javelin). An improvement to the shop, for sure. But not enough to get me playign again probably. It's still the same items in the boxes from the cataclysm, and I got pretty much all that I wanted from that, except a decent steam vent. And I'm through wasting my time trying for that one. Last up, I did a freeplay session (GM3). I'll put spoiler tags on what Im about to say next since discovering the new stuff was neat. There's a massive skull boss event, bt to open it, you need to complete 3 new types of freeplay events, whcih are advanced versions of existing events. The first was an arcanaist collect the echos event, but it was multi-stage with defense objectives in between. Was a nice change of pace. The second was a sentinel event, where we had to keep a bonfire lit by collecting gas tanks from dead enemies. Sort of like a reversed defense onjective... you'll understand once you play it. Was pretty thrilling because we only hang on by a few seconds! The third was cool. I had to carry a torch deep down into a dark spooky dungeon while being attacked by ghost spider-skorpions, and couldn't stray too far from the torch or die. At the end, you have to defend an area against a huge swarm of ghost spider-skorpion, brutes, and a custom Ursix.
Doing these opens up a 'boss' event like the conjunctions. Except it's no boss or anything... We had to collect a lot of gas tanks from scar air ships and bring them together. But the problem is, you have to collect them fast enough, because enemies attack your collected gas tanks. And if you dont both defend your collected gas tanks AND get new gas tanks, you fail the objective (we failed, lol). Personally, I think this is a bit too hard for freeplay, as by definition you play it with randoms. Anyway, Bioware still likes them sweet sweet puzzles in their loot shoot game. I really wonder why... they want to... uplift the general populace? Please don't bother it's more frustrating for the already uplifted ones, and the unuplifted have no clue that they need to be uplifted... But the new events were a nice change of pace, though. In conclusion. It's more of the same as cataclysm, but slightly different. I don't think I'm going to bother with it as the possible gains (a god damn decent steam vent) doesn't weigh up against more of the same grind (but slightly different). I might do the seasonal challenges, though. I want that sweet sweet rumoured mass effect armor O_O PS: Patch 1.5 is pretty good. Fixes a lot of things and balance of guns seems incrementally better. Another step forward. PPS: Why they had to go and add such a dramatic "Mass Salaving Mode"? It's just childish. You could've done it a lot more easily if you had done it like I explained in my document.

I played a bit last night but now can't play for a few days unfortunately. Some changes are nice, like Interceptor melee actually being useful again (haven't built specifically for that yet and probably won't unless for testing) and most of all: you don't fall to (sometimes almost bottomless depths) when you crash but instead go into hover mode. Very useful. Would have been ok for me if it just allowed us to go to hover mode ourselves. Or being able to dash. But I take it. Bought 4 Legendary-only chests but didn't get anything useful.
