Soviet & Russia have not produced many great, or even good, aircraft. But that is mostly due to the deeply flawed Soviet military doctrine, because civilian aircraft is a slightly different matter.
And this one, is even truly great. They are gradually being retrofitted with turboprops and will probably fly around for many years yet.

I felt I just had to post this video, cause it contains so many different, interesting aircraft. Including such as the AMX aka A-11 and the Pakistani JF-17.
In order of first appearance; F-4E Phantom F-16D Block50 F-15E AS 532 Cougar JF-17 CASA CN-235 F-16C F-16D A-11 aka AMX C-130 C-17 T-38 C-160 F-5A
I like the Phantoms most though. Turkish F-4 Phantoms are still awesome and highly 'competitive' combat aircraft. Israel have upgraded and modernized them twice over the years. They now have modern King Kong radar and all systems. They also have new wing hardware points for more and more modern weapons, strengthened wing, and their empty weight has been reduced by an entire metric ton. That was achieved by replacing hydraulics with electrics, and replacing old electric wiring with new. (Probably higher voltage + aluminum, but I have no detailed info and am guessing). The airframes remain old ofc, but they will fly for another ten years. They're like 60 years old, but in "most regards" they still outclass most russian aircraft. Less maneuverable than the Su-27, Mig-29, at least at low speeds, but faster, better situation awareness and decision loop, more reliable, higher sortie rate, better weapons. But they're using them for the attack role. They have lots of F-16s for the air-air role.
The Pakistani JF-17 is interesting. It's budget, very straightforward, along the aerodynamic design concept of the F-5E, but single engine. No stealth, no hyper-acrobatics. One of the design goals was that Western powers would have no influence, over either production & maintenance or who it could be exported to. So it has a Chinese engine, which is probably the weak point. Still, it's said to be better than the russian engine (Mig-29 engine) it's copied from.

This is one of those WW2 aircraft that managed to outlast their intended replacements, even two replacements. Some others are of course the famous Fairy Swordfish and Messerschmitt Bf 110. No one is claiming these were exceptionally good aircraft, but for various reasons they were practical and ultimately very useful.
This is the Curtiss SOC Seagull.

Long story short, a lack of near enough emergency landing areas/airports. Perhaps with future Antarctic colonization this might change someday...

A Falcon 9 rocket made its 13'th trip to space today, and landed safely on the drone ship afterwards. Falcon 9 is currently both the most reliable launch rocket in human history, and the cheapest.
SpaceX really have their act together. The conceptual engineering is brilliant.

The three most important and actually war-capable tactical combat aircraft during the 'Cold War' period were A-4 Skyhawk, F-4 Phantom II and Mirage III/V/Nesher/Kfir.
This is the A-4:

On October 31, SpaceX have scheduled to fly a Falcon Heavy, with a load of US military satellites. Since neither Starship nor SLS has flown yet, the Falcon Heavy is still the most powerful launch rocket in the world.
It's maximum capacity is 64 metric tons to low Earth orbit, or 16.8 tons to escape velocity. That is more than twice that of any other rocket in the world. This time, the satellites will be placed into high orbit, Geostationary, 36,000 km altitude.
The launch will be streamed by several channels, as usual.
The normal Falcon 9 is the most reliable launch rocket in the history of space flight. It's also the most available and cheapest launch service as well.

It got a bit delayed. Hopefully, it goes better today.
Elon Musk's Mars plans are utterly lunatic though. Don't listen to him. Successful colonization of Mars won't be like that. First, we must essentially colonize Mars with AI-machines or even machine-life.
The real importance of Starship and Booster is that it will make throwing really heavy and big loads out into space much, much, much cheaper, practical and available. And that may result in a revolution for space activity. Besides space stations and Moon structures, it also means that much larger, more capable and robust, probably also cheaper, satellites can be launched out into the solar system. Maybe for things like asteroid exploration and mining.

My dad was an aero engine mechanic in WW2 and worked mostly on these: (Lancaster Bomber) Always thought the Harrier was pretty cool. My paternal grandfather was in the RCAF and was the Chief Mechanic for the Lancasters that came over from Europe, stationed in places like Torbay, Goosebay etc. He was part of the North Atlatic Squadron. He served from '42 to '45, but never made an Officer's Commission.

Static test of 14 Raptor engines. (And successful, how about that.) I wonder what happens when they fire all 33?
Brief: SpaceX Raptor is the most insanely advanced rocket engine ever attempted. To even have a chance to succeed, it was realized from the start that they had to have extremely advanced rocket engine engineering tools, which they started by developing themselves inhouse, as well as a rapid iteration cycle and mass production. The only rocket engine that can compete in any sense, is SpaceX's own Merlin engine, which still has the thrust/weight record.
Merlin is smaller, and a kerosene burning engine. Raptor is a methane burning engine.
P.S. Apparently, the launchpad is not good enough. Lot's of concrete and stuff at the foot of it was blown up. Despite all the nitrogen and water. ...That's a big problem, if they have to completely redesign and rebuild the launchpad.
