On the other hand, what proportion of MP games in the last 5 years have had a good initial reception?
You can delay till the cows come home, but I get the impression, particularly with MP games, some of these issues can't be found until everyone logs in and plays.

Depends on the style of multiplayer game you're making. More condensed, arena-shooter style MP games are easier to balance and test. Making a multiplayer game like Destiny or Anthem has a lot more systems at play, so that makes it harder to test each individual part of the game.

If you are an early adopter like Destiny 1, then of course you will make mistakes. But if your product comes out after the early adoptors then is it too much to expect the product to at least be marginally better and not repeat the same mistakes? Shouldn't Bioware have learned from the mistakes of Divison 1 and Destiny 1?

Shouldn't Bioware have learned from the mistakes of Divison 1 and Destiny 1? They should, and I don't want you to think I believe otherwise; as I'm looking at something else entirely. Something that these types of games don't do, compared to their MMO counterparts, is beta testing well before the game ships. Games like Anthem, Destiny, and The Division typically only have a beta-test a month prior to the game launching. Meanwhile, MMO's are known to have extensive testing well before the game gets launched. This helps in identifying issues with the economy, pacing, progression, and overall enjoyment factor of the game. This what I'm getting at. Having games attempting to be as encompassing as Destiny or Anthem means you need far more testing then what's likely been done with either title; upon initial release. Had Anthem been tested a year or two, prior to release, by alpha/beta testers, the more aggregious issues affecting the game (loot drops, load screens, story mission design, etc) could at least been mitigated to some degree. At the end of the day, BioWare's gotta own up to what they've made, and accept every bit of criticism leveled at them. Frostbite or not, you can't have IGN videos where you say that Anthem was conceived to be this way from the getgo, only to then make the same mistakes (if not more) as these other titles.
