Exactly, I saw. I think I rather would kill him, than force him to fight against to mages. (But I always play as pro-mage – with non-mage Hawke too.) I always play Hawke as I am in real life. That's why I'm so shocked I can't kill him lol but I will eventually so I can say I have chose every ending! My canon playthrough will always have him alive though because my canon playthroughs are my first time experiences, mistakes and all! Mostly me too, yes, I can say that... or rather similar character, as me not same. I said easily, what I would kill him, because I never play as pro-templar. (And he told in a banter – with Fenris –, that there are worse things than death) Of course, maybe it was a little exaggeration (I like, if everyone have a chance, and the death prevent that...), but if Hawke dont kill him, he will lose himself, and/or die slowly, if Hawke embodies everything against which he fought all his life.

Yeah I always saw Anders' life or death choice as a "what is best for him" and if he lived how long until Justice took over again? He was struggling and suffering and if you choose to rival him you realize he lost control of the spirit and it took over and blew up the Chantry with little fight from his side. If you choose the friendship path it's not as noticeable and seems as if he and the spirit agreed to blow up the Chantry together. I think both are true based on how you treat him. If you are nice to him and help him with his plans, you don't get a scolding from Justice and Anders is more involved in the final choice, but if you drive Anders crazy and fight Justice each time he takes over, the spirit pushes the final event and Anders has now lost any control he might have had regarding it. They say sometimes our choices can change things drastically without us knowing and Anders friendship/rivalry is an excellent example of that.

But Anders was radical anti-Circle, anti-Templar, even before Justice. This will not change, I think, no matter, how kind Hawke with him, the rivalry will kill him. Justice will come out when someone is bothering him or Anders, or any mage. If Anders can fight for mage freedom, Anders and Justice will happy, if not, most likely he will be abomination/dead. And to convince him, that his whole life was unnecessary? That what he believed was totally wrong? I think this is very cruel. A man can live in the long term with somebody, who thinking completely differently? I dont believe, that for example I would be able for it. Love can not win everything. The rivalry romance with him a sad short love story.

Justice started to convince him to fight for his beliefs and stop running. In the end, Hawke is the only one who can keep him stable if you romance him and run away together, but he's still a walking time-bomb, no question about that, however Hawke's treatment of him can make it bad or worse. There's nothing Hawke does that will be good for him unless he is killed it seems. I do wonder if what we learned about removing a spirit from a person in Jaws of Hakkon could apply to an alive Anders though?

As I see: In the DAA Anders also extremely hated the Circles. He just dont want to fight. He hid his hopelessness with sarcasm. If Anders and Hawke fight well together, they will be fine. Up to die together. I think it is very risky.

I think it is very risky. He did, but he was also wary of the danger of breaking away from the Chantry. Justice helped give him the push needed to become the Anders he is in DA2, but it's not just by joining him. Anders always harbored many feelings he was afraid to act upon and when they merged he was able to finally do what he could not without Justice. What I also found interesting is when you get to know Justice in DAA he's already heading down a dark path. Envying a loving couple, wanting to experience those types of feelings himself, asking if it's wrong or right, Nate suggesting he inhabit a living body, trying to make Anders act on his feelings... all the warning signs were there. So yeah in the end it does seem death is the best option. Now I just need to bring myself to actually do it lol

But probably, yes, on the rivalry path with him the quick death is an option. Anders was Andrastian as I see, this not change. I don't think, ever he hated the Chantry. It's possible, but if I remeber correctly, he never told that. Justice may corrupted before Anders, yes, but Anders blame himself for it.

I like to think Justice...calmed down after the chantry blew, and the mage rebellion started. 'My work here is done' sort of thing. (Wishful thinking I'm sure) I don't know if Hawke's comment in DA:I about not wanting to leave Anders alone was because of Justice or because of Cory. Maybe both. (I mostly just wanted to use this gif. )
Edit: Like a dumb, I only just noticed we reached 10 pages, and that this is the 10th post of the 10th page! Mini-celebration? This gif feels appropriate, given the end of BSN (and I like using it). Carry on.

(Wishful thinking I'm sure) I don't know if Hawke's comment in DA:I about not wanting to leave Anders alone was because of Justice or because of Cory. Maybe both. [...] Maybe Justice calmed down, but Andes wanted to continue his goal: "Kirkwall can't change alone, love. Even if we win here, it will take years of open warfare throughout Thedas before mages can be safe, If you want to stay with me, you must join me that fight” ~0:25
This is, what Hawke told about what they had done after the rebellion started: And about Corypheus and Anders (This was the reason, why Hawke left alone Anders): (sorry for the images, I hate typing.) Anders considers this fight as important, than Justice. Justice is not to "blame". This co-operation. Many people blame Justice for Anders' change, but I think: Anders didn't really "changed" (at least not in all), just strengthened, as I see. I can almost felt his frustration and anger in the Awakening.

If you pick the sarcastic answer to his love speech, "I'm hungry" (troll face) he actually asks to live with you and explains his whole reasoning for it. It's very much a "I'm sorry to ask this, but it's getting really dangerous at my place." Speech. If yo u just say I love you back, his next line is almost as if he'd said just that, but you didn't get to hear it. This take on it is hilarious. As I watched that video, I kept thinking that Anders looked wrong, not as attractive. Then I read on the Youtube page of the video, that the person who made the video didn't like Anders' original look so used a mod to change some things. Boy was I relieved to read that. Then I went and watched a video with a "normal" Anders and was able to get over how weird the other Anders seemed to me.

I totally admit to making "cheat" world states so Hawke could survive and live happily ever after with Anders. Killing Hawke in the Fade is EVIL thing! But: Probably Hawke the one, who have a chance to surviving this... (I don't have warden Allistair, only king and drunk.)

My canon has Alistair as a Warden, as do most of my world states, and because I'd rather sacrifice my character (the one I created, played and by extension is still me), Hawke gets left behind most often.* I could never kill Alistair or let him die. (And my romanced-HoF even writes a letter requesting as much.) But I couldn't live with the thought of Anders being alone. So on the world states where Alistair is king I specifically attached Andersmance Hawkes to them so they could live. (Sorry, Stroud...) Don't have Loghain as a Warden either. *Maybe this way Hawke finally gets to become a dragon? This! When I saw that art I screamed OMG IT'S MY PLAYTHROUGH and started crying. Ikr? The HoF in this is even a mage like mine! And the banter with Varric and Cassandra if Hawke dies. Too. Much. Pain. I'm gald it wasn't somehow possible to choose between Alistair and Anders because I would've just stopped playing.

My canon (and only completed) playthrough of DA:O is King Alistair with my warden as queen. I don't think I'll ever play around in the keep to get a different outcome for the fade choice. Sorry Stroud. There is no way I'd have been able to make the choice between Alistair and Hawke. I'd have just quit without saving my game, without going back to finish that playthrough . I saw a video of Varric's reaction to Hawke getting left and I agree that it's heartbreaking.

I do feel bad that Stroud is dying in my playthroughs (he lived once, in a run I didn't keep) but I just don't really feel any connection with him. In one of my playthroughs with my Fenrismance I felt too bad leaving Broody alone so I let Stroud die in-game that run, but haven't decided if that Hawke actually lives or not yet... Going through the Fade Hawke and Alistair were fighting and I just knew something bad was going to happen. And then it happened. And, YES, Varric's scenes talking about dead-Hawke is... ugh. My heart. The strange thing though is in that cut-scene with my Andersmance Hawke Varric will mention sending a letter to Carver, but with the other romances he mentions the LI. Part of the banter, can't remember all of it: Cassandra: What of Anders? Does he know? Varric: He knows, Seeker. I sent him a letter. Now leave it be. I was running around the Emerald Graves when that happened and I was I wanted to stop playing. As if I didn't feel bad enough already...

I have several other DA:O games going, but finding the time to get to them is problematic. Especially now that Legion is out.
