I think in part because the overall message of the "greater good" would resonate with the principles of their Primarch(which they still hold to strongly ten thousand years later) and their distaste with fighting former allies in the aftermath of them fighting together. I think if any encounter with a species and them being forced into cooperation with each other resulting into something resembling an actual alliance, it would be the Tau. Plus the Tau aren't exactly as heretical as Imperium propaganda would undoubtedly portray given they even allow limited worship of the God Emperor, though that's mostly done just appeasement for first generation humans coming into the Empire. I am not saying it would be guaranteed or even likely but I think that if any Legion would turn against the Imperium upon being forced into coexistence with the Tau, it would be them. The rest are either too adamant in belief to the point to sheer stupidity or too bound up in their own collective dogma to see how the benefits of cooperation can be, meanwhile with this branch of the Marines you have had continued interaction and forced cooperation with Alien species again and again and again, they have a broader perspective and I think that can be something of an olive branch in their favor. Note I am not by any meaning stating that this would lead to cooperation between the Imperium and Empire, if anything if this actually came to pass it would lead to the entire chapter likely being excommunicated, which is nothing new to the Blood Angels. Its just a thought I had a while back. I mean you had entire legions fall to Chaos and come under the sway of the its deities, I think it would be a novel thing if one actually branched out for itself and established a new practice of desertion from the Imperium. The real question is whether the alliance would be a two way relationship. For all their talk of the "Greater Good" the Tau species are rather racist when it comes to non-Tau, including their own client races. You wont see a Kroot or Vespid leading Tau Fire warriors into battle, nor will you see a human convert ever be granted command status above the Tau. The Blood Angles might be tempted to join the Tau Empire, but I would wager that the Tau's treatment of client races as second rate citizens (at best) to be a major point of contention.

The Blood Angles might be tempted to join the Tau Empire, but I would wager that the Tau's treatment of client races as second rate citizens (at best) to be a major point of contention. No you will not see a Kroot leading Firecaste warriors, but the reverse is true but you will also see Client races directing their own forces, there are Kroot and Vespid officers, and this really isn't a xenophobic attitude per say, it ties into the overlaying message of their philosophy and that is there is a role for all in the system, and they should embrace for the betterment of all. Tau Firecaste are raised from birth to be warriors, they are created to be that role, and this is not unique in their society, caste jumping is all but unheard of given that education and training for these roles starts in infancy. But yes there are some practices in usage of these client races that would undoubtedly raise a brow to non Tau, but is it anything that the Imperium would turn its nose up at? That is the lens we should use here for a prospective alliance, not whatever we may think of it, but how these people who stem from the Imperium think of it. All the same though I do believe that the Blood Angels in question would undoubtedly be purposed for military roles and yes that likely would include officership of their own division they joined, they likely would be employed in a fairly similar fashion to how they are now just to keep unit cohesion and fighting strength. The Tau do not interfere with things that work, they may try to improve upon them, but this is why you have classes of ship that in use by the Tau since they first achieved space flight, they don't mess with things that work, they adapt it, improve, and even occasionally make a better version which is then employed but short of that, they let what works, work. Its not lack of inventiveness its just another part of their culture.

I would still say that the Blood Angles' penchant for co-operation would dry up rather quickly if Tau actions like forcibly sterilizing human populations to make room for actual Tau citizens came to light. For all of their open mindedness, seeing a xeno race subtly sabotaging human lives to better its own would most definitely set them at odds with the Empire.
