I like the combat and movement freedom. Some of the characters were alright, and the game is pleasing to look at and explore. Outside of that, the bugs, loot problems, lack of mission design variety (especially due to the lack of utilization of the flight mechanics), and relatively stale world state, hampers my overall experience.
Definitely BioWare's worst product, and this is coming from someone who would still like the game to improve.
EDIT: 6/10 Basically.

As it stands, it is not even a minimally viable product with numerous crashes and restarts. The game never shuts down properly, persisting as a background process until you Ctrl+Alt+Delete. "Error Loading Pilot Data" occurs with greater frequency than Masterwork drops per hour.
This means I can't review the game. I'd say what works is worth around 6/10, but how can you score something when it works less than half the time? The game simply isn't a stable product.
Verdict: Not viable in current state. Feels like a beta.

I can't really land on a score as I'm a bit conflicted. ... But I also find many of the bugs and questionable design decisions irritating, if not dumbfounding. Like how heavily multiplayer is pushed even for story missions where the race to the next objective has you forget what the actual context is to killing mooks. But again, I'm having fun. ... This is the same problem SWTOR had with Flashpoints, and Bioware solved it by forcing everyone to wait for the last player to show up, and click the thingamabob before the mission plot proceeded. I don't know why this game doesn't do that. Hmmm... the tether would probably be less annoying if it didn't come with another *ugh* load screen.

The thing about the tether system that also bugs me (apart from it taking you to a loading screen) is also the fact that it actually solves an issue that the devs said they wanted to avoid. Most notably, players gawking at the loot they've picked up. This was the prevailing reason for why they don't allow you to view drops out on the field, or allowed you to equip them either. A tether system would pretty much negate loot gazing since it's going to bring the person who's not following along with you regardless.

+ Beautiful lush scenery and great graphics (especially if you play on a high-end PC); + Original and satisfying flight mechanics; + Decent combat overall, with different viable builds per javelin; + An interested world overall; + Above average voice acting;
- Poor character design (NPCs, enemies and the main villain); - Linear, short and shallow campaign, with zero choices to be made (contrary to what was advertised); - Severe (absolutely severe!) lack of endgame activities, plus the ones available are extremely repetitive; - Re-used locations and objectives during missions; - Lots of re-used combat animation and sound assets (particularly from Mass Effect Andromeda); - Game crashes, sound crashes, disconnections, sudden framerate drop, poor graphics optimization; - Terribly designed UI; - Lack of text chat, ping system, clans, network or whatever other means to communicate or socialize in-game; - Armor is cosmetic only and very limited in terms of choices, plus they look the same regardless of gender; - Weapons design is bare minimal, and weapon skins are re-used throughout the game; - Can't access inventory whatsoever while in game; - Fort Tharsis feels terribly small, narrow, unnecessary and disconnected from the world you play at; - Excessive amount of loading screens (even though some of them can be fast, they are still present way too often in the game); - SSD is a must have; - Loot progression is questionably broken (opinions may vary from player to player); - Susbtantial expansions to the endgame are coming only in May.
I've played the game for about 60 hours.
My score is a 4 out of 10.

I can give it a 6/10 because I personally have not played a game like this where I can fly around and do combat in the air. So for me thats a plus one. Name one shooter with these mechanics? Until someone shows me the light, this seems like innovation and something new. I think Warframe does this. Not saying its not still enjoyable in Anthem. I haven't played and have no opinion.

I don't understand why this is apparently a problem that Anthem needed to solve yet no other game in the history of ever has had an issue with. That sort of screams out "the project lead has a pet peeve so we're doing to design around it".

That sort of screams out "the project lead has a pet peeve so we're doing to design around it". I think they just over-emphasized a need to prevent poor player interactions over functionality and QoL. Even when it comes to games like Destiny, yeah people will go off track, but once you hit an hard encounter point they're forced to rejoin with you. That's what the tether system should have been. This is also why they likely didn't bother letting you see your loot or equipping gear on the go; since E3 2017 already showed they had it in mind. I wouldn't be surprised if poor mismanagement of the project led to some of these bad design decisions being approved though. Seems like Ben Irving is setting himself to be removed from another game he's worked on.

7/10
Good: Good looking, fluid combat, fun to play and explore. Story is solid enough to invest me into the role of Freelancer. Characters quirky and generally interesting.
Mixed bag: Seem to find something new in freeplay each time out but too much redundancy in random encounters before finding the new.
Bad: Technical issues, loading screens, rinse and repeat enemy encounters. Also lack of respawn close to an encounter where you're defeated...never been able to find my way back. The location of that 2 hours 'til server closes message right in the middle of my screen...often when I'm fightin' some baddies.
Needs: Resolve more intrusive technical problems (error loading pilot). More uniqueness in daily encounters, more enemy and monster types, Act II of the main story soon. Weekly side story tidbits...something like doing a little smuggling operation for the bartender or a solo mission for Tassyn to track and assassinate a high level enemy leader.

The Good …
Beautiful graphics Great facial animations (big correction over Andromeda … perhaps the devs now have the proper tools for that element of FB game design) Great soundtrack Great game controls (once you remap the lol default key bindings) Story content … too brief, but what there is, really enjoyed it … needs more, look forward to future updates Flying (and swimming) … demo wasn’t good (using a m+kb on PC), early access better, global release pretty much nailed it Combat mechanics … quite good, certainly better than DA, MET … probably better than MEA VA … along with facial animations, pretty awesome (Faye a favorite, Mathias also quite excellent … plus Haluk, Yarrow … Brin initially off putting, was part of character evolution) MW and Legendary weapon effects Ft Taris … looks empty at beginning, as story progresses (beyond final boss) it fills up … now, almost crowded … look forward to additional areas opening up with future content Day/night cycle and changing weather Cool places to explore and find on the map (still haven’t found everything, but have really stumbled onto some cool stuff)
The Bad …
Wrong (two way) barriers on strongholds (should have been one way) Enemies disappearing No map markers that you can set Too small of a backpack … you don’t want us to check “stuff” while out, why do you make the backpack so small? Why are you forcing us to quit “freeplay” to go back to the Fort? Only three strongholds at game release … ? For a Looter-Shooter? What were you thinking? Not much vocalization of enemy factions (volume was turned up since release, still not a lot there … perhaps it will get better still) Sound bug … still there, much improved over MEAMP, should have literally been fixed years ago, but was never a priority until now Lack of stats on weapons and powers Generic weapons, weapon sounds, weapon appearance (too many are visually almost indistinguishable from one another) Tethering … rotten implementation … at times (locked behind a barrier) you wait forever to be pulled forward … other times, literally can’t move fast enough before a warning Enemies spawn next to you (in strongholds, learned where not to be during certain phases, but in freeplay/contracts, not so obvious) Ft Tarsis fills up, but need more folks to interact with … it’s crowded (eventually), but most of the NPCs are just there … no interaction. *I think* because of addressing bugs/game shortfalls, but most larger world events and no weekend events have played out … The few events I read about … were too easy to miss … I never saw them … never played them Lack of beacons to bring folks to a world event in freeplay Problems with game bugging out and not progressing when a mission way point is concluded or even end of match Problems with bugged games in quickplay and stronghold quickplay (related to game progression bug) Takes too long to find something in freeplay … if you want to explore (and I do), that’s fine … but if looking for events … Freeplay event triggers don’t work well and then the waypoints don’t always work after the event triggers Repetitive contracts … Yarrow’s is the worst, but Brin and Mathias are not much better Repetitive NPC vocalization post-story Two hour warnings that the server (local instance) is shutting down … then a countdown Local server shutting down with no warning Walking through Ft Tarsis … better than at release, but still way too slow … current running should be walking speed Third person hitting "cover" you stand next to when reticle is on the target … this has improved recently
The Ugly …
GUI … ME3MP decent, MEA (and MEAMP especially) bad, Anthem butt ugly … horribad … how did this ever make it to game release? Loading screens … too many and too many that take forever, even with an SSD Borked weapon and power stats (i.e. stuff isn’t “working as intended”) Random worthless inscriptions (better than at launch, but the entire approach is bad … make the high-level inscriptions something rare to collect … but allow the player to use those high-level inscriptions on the weapons/gear/components of their choosing) Lack of endgame content (beyond only 3 strongholds) … if you’re going to do a L-S … you have examples from competitors … learn from them, do it better Story-MP interface … should have made solo story mode the default … trying to play the story with friends is clunky, immersion breaking … it doesn’t work … solo is far better way … this was supposed to be the big thing in Anthem that made it different from everything else … this is a failure … pretty much a complete, utter failure … can you make it work? Yes, but it is painful to do so and why would you want to do that? A game is supposed to be fun … trying to sync up to do the story … is not fun. (doing it solo was fun, I had a blast … but going back and redoing the story with friends who are just starting out now … it’s painful)
Overall ...
So far, I've enjoyed the game, but there are serious issues that should never have made it to game release, some of which need to be fixed post haste if the game is to thrive/survive ... other things ... I'm not sure how to fix them. Because I'm not really into looter-shooters, some things probably don't bother me, but since this game is a hybrid, it needs to find a way to work. I entered this game, thinking of it as a bridge to the next DA and ME installments. I think this game can still do that with fixes, updates and new content … we’ll see.

I wanted to like Anthem but the more I play it the less I like it. Once I finally get around to completing the main quest, such as it is I think I'll most likely uninstall the game and that will be that.
