Some words from Outstar regarding recent stuff I like Outstar but i don´t trust her on this. This look like damage control. Maybe the part of Mandryka is true who knows? But i don´t believe that Cara Ellison departure was something normal. If everything really was ok then she would have told the community that her departure hasn´t nothing to with everything. She just had finished her work and want to do new stuff but Bloodlines 2
is in fine hands and getting with every new day better and better. But nothing no word on Bloodlines 2 or her departure in September prior to last week.

She left because she wanted to leave, she doesn't own anyone an explanation for it. People join and leaves project all the time. I really don't get why people obsess over it. I don't even understand why video game dev teams have been turned into TV shows cast, but only those with twitter as the 100+ others not online are considered to not exist.

Kymira your avatar is still killing me I've had my expectations/hopes for this one lowered since the Mitsoda news, but it is still - easily - my most anticipated game of the next little while. Fingers and toes continue to be crossed.

We now know who is the new lead narrative writer on the game (which also means she won't be working on GW2 or BioWare games anymore I guess). Sam has been working (as a contractor at the beginning) on VTMB2 for a few years now. A guy loaned from Hairbrained (wrote for Shadowrun) for a year on the project also accepted a permanent content designer position at the studio.

Anyone else missing the good old days when games just... came out when they were ready? No years and half-decades of bragging and publicizing and teasing and blogging and backfiring attempts to build relationships with customers by inviting them into the studios through social media?
I can totally see the point of the creative people who come up with ambitious and thematic ideas and think outside the box not necessarily also being the best ones to cut away the fat and tie up loose ends and get it ready to ship out. In fact, creative people tend to be uniquely terrible at those things in my experience.
But I feel like this is all stuff we should have found out while Hardsuit Labs were basking in the praise of their released game and explaining how it all came together, and not as ominous fodder for guesswork while we still have no idea what it means or if we're looking at a classic in the making or an overhyped slow-motion trainwreck.
It's like Mom and Dad telling you about their issues financing your birthday presents, oh, and they're also late on the rent. Just don't, please?

I totally agree with this. My excitement about Bloodlines 2, my most anticipated game ever, is nearly gone because of all the bad news, bickering and stuff. Hmm, I'm getting really tired of hearing basically everything except a new launch date out of these guys, but still fairly excited for the game itself. Not least because Halloween got me in the mood for playing the first game again while re-watching the eight-part Seattle By Night live PnP sessions by Penny Arcade on Youtube. Must have gone through five or six different "first character I'm going to play"s since the first announcement, all with filled-out 5e VTM character sheets. Have pretty much settled on a legbreaker-type Ventrue small-time gangster who served his sentence and cleaned up his act in prison, and was caught in the Mass Embrace on his first night as a free man. Now he'll play the game and serve the Powers That Be in order to survive and potentially turn the people threatening to execute him into the world's fattest meal ticket. Death is the opportunity of a lifetime. Still wish we could have gotten to play as Nosferatu.

Should've just remastered the old game instead More like remade it with a complete overhaul of the final third at the very least.
I think that the news are actually not bad. The released stuff from Bloodlines 2 looked generic and without a hint of promise. Hopefully they find someone who builds it from the ground up, as I doubt the current project can be successfully salvaged and resumed with the existing assets. But that probably means the game will release at the end of 2023 at best.

I am not kidding but this is great news for Bloodlines 2. I know that it doesn´t look that they but after the firings of all the experienced devs especially of the Bloodlines 1 and former 2 Lead Writer Brian Mitsoda Hardsuit Labs would have never deliver a good Bloodlines 2. Too be honest without Mitsodas starpower Hardsuit Labs was never the right dev studio for a game like Bl2.
I mean look at their previous games (even as former Zombie Studio) They never have made a great game.
So what now. First rehire Brian Mitsoda and fix this stupid decision from Hardsuit Labs and find a more capable studio. I would suggest Harebrained Schemes (Shadow Run). Also an Seattle studio which isn´t bad for a game with a Seattle setting and the most important thing they have RPG experience and are owned by Paradox.
Like i said great news for the game.

The official communication. Strangely, no mention of who is the new studio. Most publishers would have cancelled or released a turd by now just to stop spending money on it. On one side, it's bad news for the game current state, but on the other, Paradox really wants this game to release and be successful. Saying that, it might not be a "quality" problem as much as an "execution" problem and the firing last summer were clearly just scapegoats for a larger management problems at the studio.

Well this is unfortunate, I guess it was going badly, has anyone heard of a game switching development studio midway before? Did it go well?
I'm a little worried they didn't say who the next devs are.
I hope the game doesn't end up getting cancelled.

Well this is unfortunate, I guess it was going badly, has anyone heard of a game switching development studio midway before? Did it go well? These are the things that usually happens: - game get cancelled forever - game gets rebooted at another studio or internally (with assets retained: models, VO, writing) - game get morphed into something else Most recent example: Prey 2 was cancelled and ~3 years later Bethesda rebooted the franchise with Prey (2017) at another studio. Old example: Project Snowblind (it used to be a Deus Ex 1 sequel, turned into something else) Paradox usually pull the plug (aka cancel) when a studio fail to ship a game or released a turds to recoup cost. They put a lots of value into Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 being a success it seems. Saying that, I wouldn't expect anything until 2023 now.

Is there any insight as to what the problems are? The answer is always mismanagement and big egos, but HLS has issues with keeping leads/hiring them going by their job opening too. Going by how HLS haven't updated their own website in month, I'm actually wondering if the company didn't simply hemorrhage devs. Unless the switch happened months ago and HLS is a empty shell now. There was some hearsay last year about feedbacks being abysmal in early 2020 which made Paradox request design rework that apparently HLS/Cluney didn't want to do too. But I'm personally puzzled by Paradox moving their own producers form the project (i.e. changed them twice at least, one was fired). That suggest communication issues, aka the producer was saying "all is fine", but things leaked to point to "not fine".

UutIVvdPw7END0Ef made an interesting comment in the gaming news thread. Looks like HLS haven't been working solely on Bloodlines 2 over the last year. They made the Crash Bandicoot 4 PS4 port which released last September (it's even on their website). While they were failing to polish and release their own game, they put resources on a port for another publisher... I'm starting to think Paradox got real pissed at HLS management now. You are failing deadlines and take on more work for someone else...WTF.

I'm a little worried they didn't say who the next devs are. I hope the game doesn't end up getting cancelled. EA did it with the Star Wars game that was being worked on at Visceral when they shuttered the studio, but it was cancelled a year or so later. Most publishers will end a game if its been in development too long or has been forecasted to be in development for a longer period of time because the math dictates that its probably going to no longer be a good idea financially.

I wonder just how much the new team will be finishing vs gutting and remaking. Also with the release window being pushed back even more will they even bother trying to get this out on ps4/xone anymore? With how Cyberpunk 2077 released on the base consoles maybe they will just try to avoid that whole mess. Will def be interesting to keep an eye on and I wish I could be a bit more optimistic about it but past history of games that are in this much developmental hell usually don't end up well.

Surely at some point, someone will have to learn from the past mistakes of others...right? If a game is not coming out for another couple of years, releasing it on what will - by then - be 10 year old hardware (which were inferior to most half decent gaming PCs at that time) would be an act of utter insanity.

On Discord, the head CM mention that the new studio will be announced once they resolved all the legalese. It sound like they already have a studio picked. Also, the game as it currently exist will be given to the new studio. By using the term "leading development" on the official website, I'm wondering if they didn't already have studios doing work on the game and are now transferring everything over to one of them. I guess we will learn more soon once the legal papers are sorted out. I'm not expecting a big studio to get this, probably going to be something even smaller than HLS was. Will def be interesting to keep an eye on and I wish I could be a bit more optimistic about it but past history of games that are in this much developmental hell usually don't end up well. Development hell is a game that can't leave pre-production or get stuck in rebooting mode because the leads/executives keep changing plans (or come with crap ideas). Unless HLS has been lying about the game stage of development to everyone, including their own devs (blog and Mitsoda parting comments saying they were in alpha/content complete), this game was never in development hell. What happened in 2020 was the devs failing to meet the quality level the publisher wanted in the last stretch of development. Considering Paradox has no issue releasing turds, HLS must have made a terrible game that required mechanical/gameplay changes that nobody at HLS knew how to improve (or wanted to improve).
